Pat Tillman's Brother Arrested for Arson After Crashing His Car Into a Post Office
The younger brother of former NFL player and U.S. Army Ranger Pat Tillman was arrested after crashing his vehicle into a post office. Richard Tillman was booked on suspicion of arson in San Jose, California, on Sunday, July 20. "Shortly after 3 a.m. the San Jose Fire and Police Departments responded to reports of a vehicle on fire in the box lobby area at the Almaden Valley Station Post Office,' the U.S. Postal Inspection Service said in a statement. 'The fire was extinguished with no injuries.' Richard, 44, remains in jail and is being held without bail. Prince Harry Makes Surprise Appearance at Tillman Honors After ESPYs Federal investigators told ABC News they are aware of and investigating spray-painted words found on the exterior of the post office building and claims that Richard live-streamed the incident. 'Investigators are investigating as an intentional act,' Postal Inspector Matthew Norfleet told ABC News. 'It will, of course, be determined in a court of law whether or not it was. But it does not look like an accident so far.' A woman who lives nearby the post office said she was startled awake by 'explosions sounds.' 'I looked out the window and the post office was in flames,' Heather Roberts told ABC News. 'When we went outside, there was a man standing in the parking lot with a bunch of belongings.' A photo of Pat was visible in a box that was left near the scene. Tillman, a former star safety for the NFL's Arizona Cardinals, was killed during combat while working as a U.S. Army Ranger in Afghanistan in 2004. He was 27 years old. The football player was motivated to enlist after the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. 'At times like this you stop and think about just how good we have it, what kind of system we live in, and the freedoms we are allowed,' Pat said at the time, according to his foundation's website. 'A lot of my family has gone and fought in wars and I really haven't done a damn thing.' Pat enlisted alongside his older brother, Kevin, who left his role with Major League Baseball's then-Anaheim Angels to join the armed forces. To honor Pat's legacy, the ESPY Awards created the Pat Tillman Award for Service, which recognizes a person with a strong connection to sports who has served others in a way that echoes Pat's legacy. Controversy was stirred last year when ESPN announced Prince Harry as the recipient of the award. ESPN's Chris Russo Says Police Were Called on Him at Heathrow Airport for Being a 'Loud American' 'I am shocked as to why they would select such a controversial and divisive individual to receive the award,' Pat's mother, Mary, told the Daily Mail in June 2024. 'There are recipients that are far more fitting. There are individuals working in the veteran community that are doing tremendous things to assist veterans.' Despite the feedback, ESPN stood by their decision to give the award to Harry for cofounding the Invictus Games, an international event featuring both active and veteran service members competing in a variety of sporting events. 'While we understand not everyone will agree with all honorees selected for any award, The Invictus Games Foundation does incredible work and ESPN believes this is a cause worth celebrating,' ESPN said in a statement to Us Weekly. At the 2025 ESPYs earlier this month, the Pat Tillman Award for Service was presented to Los Angeles County firefighters David Walters and Erin Regan.

Two injured after multi-vehicle crash on I-40 pinned two people; cause is unknown
Jul. 20—Two people were taken to a hospital after a crash involving a semi-truck on Interstate 40 on Sunday. It is unclear what caused the crash. One of the drivers is in critical condition, New Mexico State Police spokesperson Amanda Richards said in an email. Just before 8 a.m., Albuquerque Fire Rescue responded to a call of a commercial vehicle fire on westbound I-40 by Rio Grande NW. When firefighters arrived, they found a person trapped in a burning car pinned underneath a semi-truck, AFR spokesperson Jason Fejer said. Firefighters were able to get them out before that person was transported to University of New Mexico Hospital, he said. About 50 yards away, Fejer said, firefighters found another car with a person pinned inside. That person was also taken to UNMH, he said. The incident caused westbound I-40 near the Big I to shutdown. It has since reopened. More details will be provided as they become available, Richards said. Solve the daily Crossword

Ford Leads in the Number of Recalls, Faces Costly Penalties
Ford Motor CompanyF has been outdoing all automakers in the number of recalls this year. In its latest recall, Ford had to pull out 694,271 SUVs in the United States and its territories. Models including 2021-24 Bronco Sport, 2020-22 Escape and 2019-24 Kuga vehicles were a part of this recall, amounting to about 858,000 vehicles globally. The impacted vehicles have a problem with fuel leaks that could heighten the risk of the vehicle catching on fire. The company is subject to a cost of $570 million, owing to the blow from the recall in its second quarter 2025 results. NHTSA filing states that fuel injectors in some vehicles may crack, causing leaks that could lead to a fire. Drivers might notice a fuel smell, warning lights, smoke, or flames. According to NHTSA's data, Ford has been topping recall filings since 2020, signaling its struggle with quality. Ford's consent order with NHTSA might also be a reason why old and new recalls have been surfacing lately. This consent order also resulted in Ford agreeing to pay up to $165 million in fines, the second-largest civil penalty in NHTSA history, following the Takata airbag case. Ford has responded to this issue with a software update that would redirect fuel away from ignition sources, but only as a temporary fix. Although no injuries resulting from this issue have been reported, eight vehicles experienced underhood fires. Ford claims that six of these vehicles had not been installed with the recommended software update. The company had a history of two similar issues that resulted in a recall of 42,000 vehicles. This recall supersedes the prior recalls, for which remedy developments are underway. Shares of Ford have slumped 16.7% over the past year compared with the industry's 4.2% decline.
