Egypt's PM says country not witnessing any power outages to reduce electricity loads

CAIRO – 18 June 2025: Egypt's Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said that the country will not be witnessing any power outages to reduce electricity loads, noting that the power outages that took place in some areas were temporary or caused by a technical failure. Madbouly emphasized that the Egyptian economy is resilient. He also added that Egypt possesses strategic reserves of essential commodities sufficient to meet domestic consumption needs. Madbouly reassured citizens about the availability of various goods in the markets. emphasizing that the government promptly took action to address the implications of the current crisis on multiple fronts, particularly regarding fuel supplies and the enhancement of the country's stockpile of all basic strategic goods. This came during Madbouly's chairing of the weekly Cabinet meeting Wednesday, to discuss a number of issues and files. At the beginning of the meeting, the Prime Minister addressed the worsening situation and growing tensions in the region over the past few days, reiterating Egypt's firm rejection of any expansion of the conflict in the region. He stressed the urgent need to stop Israeli military operations across various regional fronts, warning that continued escalation would have severe consequences for all the peoples of the region—without exception—as well as for the entire world. Madbouly noted that President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has, in his meetings and phone calls with various world leaders, stressed the importance of the international community playing a more active role in urging regional parties to act responsibly, affirming that peaceful solutions remain the only path to ensuring security and stability in the region. In this context, he referred to a decision he issued to form a "Crisis Committee" under his leadership, tasked with monitoring the repercussions of the Iranian-Israeli military operations, to help prepare for any developments across various sectors. Regarding the domestic impact of the conflict, the Prime Minister stated that he will meet regularly with the committee members. He added that its first meeting will be held today after the Cabinet session. He also pointed out that he is currently intensifying his meetings with various advisory committees to assess the consequences of the recent events and their effects on different sectors of the state. In this regard, Madbouly also urged citizens to be highly mindful of electricity consumption under these exceptional circumstances, stressing the government's commitment to supplying power plants with the necessary fuel to ensure their efficient operation. Madbouly reassured citizens that there is no cause for concern regarding the availability of any basic commodities, as Egypt has strategic reserves that meet domestic demand. He noted that the government continues to monitor developments at all levels and is preparing multiple scenarios to address potential changes, expressing hope that stability would return to the region as soon as possible.

In a phone call with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Abdelatty underscored the urgency of achieving an immediate ceasefire and returning to negotiations as the sole route toward a sustainable agreement on Iran's nuclear program. The two ministers discussed bilateral relations and the latest developments in the Middle East. Both expressed satisfaction with the steady progress in Egyptian-Chinese ties in recent years and affirmed their commitment to enhancing cooperation in various sectors for mutual benefit. Regionally, Abdelatty briefed Wang on Egypt's efforts to defuse tensions between Iran and Israel and prevent the conflict from expanding further across the region, warning of severe consequences for regional security and stability. Wang welcomed Egypt's stance, noting the strong alignment between Beijing and Cairo on the issue. He praised a joint statement issued on June 16 by 24 Arab and Islamic countries, initiated by Egypt, which called for an immediate ceasefire and the resumption of talks as the only way to reach a lasting agreement on Iran's nuclear file.

The film is both written and directed by Mohamed Sadek, based on his best-selling 2020 novel of the same name.
