'Reservation is our right': VIP chief Mukesh Sahani launches poll song, targets BJP on quota cap; ahead of Bihar elections

'Reservation is our right': VIP chief Mukesh Sahani launches poll song, targets BJP on quota cap PATNA: As the political parties are gearing up for the assembly election in Bihar due in October-November this year, the Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) of Mukesh Sahani on Sunday launched its poll song, 'Hai Haq Hamara Aarakshan'. Sahani said this is not just a song, but the roar of his Nishad community. "It is the echo of every voice that is fighting for equality and rights. Reservation is our right and we will get it," Sahani said. He also said till BJP is in power, the scope of reservation for backward and SC people cannot increase above 50%. "Only when the INDI Alliance forms govt, people of all sections will get participation as per their population," he said. When asked about the comment of Krishna Allavaru, the Congress in charge of Bihar, regarding the CM face, Mukesh Sahani said everything is clear. "When someone makes a claim then there will be a dispute. If Congress talks about its CM candidate, then discussion on that is also possible," he said. Sahani said the CM face will also be declared soon. On LJP (Ram Vilas) president and union minister Chirag Paswan's announcement to contest all 243 seats in Bihar to ensure NDA win strongly, Sahani took a dig at him and wished him to contest the elections himself. "Chirag had contested 135 seats earlier also. You are the son of Ram Vilas Paswan. A lion's cubs are not like this. If you have courage then fight against everyone, why only against Nitish Kumar?" Sahani said and questioned Chirag's leadership quality. The VIP founder also said his party's fight is only on the issue of reservation and for that he will enter the electoral fray. He said the people of Bihar should not be fooled, but should talk directly about who will contest from where.

'Shopkeepers to be taken into confidence': Odisha plans to ban liquor, non-veg food near Jagannath temple

BHUBANESWAR: To preserve the sanctity of Jagannath Temple in Puri, state govt intends to ban sale of alcohol and non-vegetarian food in the shrine's vicinity. Law minister Prithiviraj Harichandan said alcohol sales will be prohibited within a 2-km radius of the 12th century shrine, while non-vegetarian food establishments along the 3-km Grand Road, facing the temple, will be required to cease operations. 'Puri is one of the four sacred dhams in the country. We want to develop Puri into a pilgrim city. Liquor shops and bars will not be allowed to operate within 2-km radius of the temple. The Bada Danda (Grand Road) will be free from non-vegetarian food shops. Our objective is to maintain the spiritual atmosphere around the Jagannath Temple,' said Harichandan. The minister said modalities for the decision's smooth implementation will be finalised soon. The proposed regulation, if implemented, will affect two liquor shops and two bars within the 2-km radius of the temple, requiring relocation. Besides, over 70 non-vegetarian food vendors and restaurants along Grand Road between Jagannath and Gundicha temples will need to be relocated. "The new regulations will be implemented in phases to ensure smooth transition for all stakeholders. The shopkeepers will be taken into confidence before finalisation of the decision," a senior govt official said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like This Device Made My Power Bill Drop Overnight elecTrick - Save upto 80% on Power Bill Pre-Order Undo The announcement has received mixed reactions from different sections of society. US, China seek to extend trade truce with London talks

Washington: After a round of talks in Geneva last month, the United States and China will sit down at the negotiating table in London on Monday to attempt to preserve a fragile truce on trade, despite simmering tensions. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and Trade Representative Jamieson Greer will lead the US delegation, President Donald Trump announced Friday. Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng -- who led Beijing's negotiating team in Geneva -- will also lead the team in London, the foreign ministry announced at the weekend. His press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, told Fox News on Sunday: "We want China and the United States to continue moving forward with the agreement that was struck in Geneva." Live Events While the government of UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer reiterated that it was not involved in the content of the discussions in any way, a spokesperson said: "We are a nation that champions free trade." UK authorities "have always been clear that a trade war is in nobody's interests, so we welcome these talks," the spokesperson added. 'Correcting the course' The talks in London come just a few days after Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping finally held their first publicly announced telephone talks since the Republican returned to the White House. Trump said that call, which took place on Thursday, had reached a "very positive conclusion." Xi was quoted by state-run news agency Xinhua as saying that "correcting the course of the big ship of Sino-US relations requires us to steer well and set the direction." The call came after tensions between the world's two biggest economies had soared, with Trump accusing Beijing of violating a tariff de-escalation deal reached in Geneva in mid-May. "We need China to comply with their side of the deal. And so that's what the trade team will be discussing tomorrow," Leavitt said Sunday. In April, Trump introduced sweeping worldwide tariffs that targeted China most heavily. At one point the United States hit China with additional levies of 145 percent on its goods as both sides engaged in tit-for-tat escalation. China's countermeasures on US goods reached 125 percent. Then in Switzerland, after two days of talks, the two sides agreed to slash their staggeringly high tariffs for 90 days. But differences have persisted, including over China's restrictions on the export of rare earth minerals used in tech products. 'Green channel' Throughout its talks with Washington, China also has launched discussions with other trading partners -- including Japan and South Korea -- in a bid to build a united front to counter Trump's tariffs. On Thursday, Beijing turned to Canada, with the two sides agreeing to regularize their channels of communication after a period of strained ties. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and Chinese Premier Li Qiang also discussed trade and the fentanyl crisis, Ottawa said. Beijing proposed establishing a "green channel" to ease the export of rare earths to the European Union, and fast-tracking approval of some export licenses. That proposal from the commerce ministry in Beijing came after talks on Tuesday between China's Commerce Minister Wang Wentao and EU Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic. China is expected to host a summit with the EU in July, marking 50 years since Beijing and Brussels established diplomatic ties.
