Warner Bros Rumors began swirling about Frost taking over the role of Hagrid in March, fueled by the "Shaun of the Dead" star following confirmed "Harry Potter" series regulars like John Lithgow on social media. The reveal of Frost in costume follows the reveal yesterday of Dominic McLaughlin in full Hogwarts regalia as Harry Potter himself. The picture of McLaughlin came along with the announcement that more cast members had been recruited for the series: Rory Wilmot as Neville Longbottom, Amos Kitson as Dudley Dursley, Louise Brealey as Madam Rolanda Hooch, and Anton Lesser as Ollivander. The rest of the cast includes Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, Luke Thallon as Professor Quirinus Quirrell, Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch, John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, and Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape. First Look at the New Harry Potter Revealed

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek's network of contributors We found out in May that newcomer Dominic McLaughlin would be playing the new Harry Potter for HBO's upcoming reboot series, and now we have our first look at McLaughlin as the iconic character. You can see McLaughlin as the Boy Who Lived below. First look at Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter in the new 'HARRY POTTER' series. Filming has now begun. — DiscussingFilm (@DiscussingFilm) July 14, 2025 Production has begun at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in the U.K. where the shot above was taken. Read More: 'Scrubs' Reboot Confirmed at ABC Along with the first look image of McLaughlin as Harry Potter, HBO has confirmed more names added to the cast of its upcoming series. Rory Wilmot will play Neville Longbottom, Amos Kitson is playing Dudley Dursley, Louise Brealey will play Madam Rolanda Hooch, and Anton Lesser will play Garrick Ollivander. Back when McLaughlin was revealed as the new Harry Potter back in May, he wasn't alone. Also announced were the other two members of the series' famous trio: Arabella Stanton was cast as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout takes on the role of Ron Weasley. At the time, "Harry Potter" showrunner Francesca Gardiner and executive producer Mark Mylod released an official press statement which said, "After an extraordinary search led by casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann, we are delighted to announce we have found our Harry, Hermione, and Ron." "The talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold, and we cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen. We would like to thank all the tens of thousands of children who auditioned. It's been a real pleasure to discover the plethora of young talent out there." McLaughlin, Stanton, and Stout were reportedly cast only after over 32,000 auditions. In the films Harry, Hermione, and Ron were played respectively by Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint. The three newcomers join an impressive cast for the upcoming reboot series, including Luke Thallon as Professor Quirinus Quirrell, Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch, John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid. Just as most of the movies covered the events of a single "Harry Potter" book, most individual seasons of the new "Harry Potter" TV series are meant to cover the events of a single novel of creator J.K. Rowling's. The first season will focus on the events of Rowling's first "Harry Potter" novel, "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone." Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Well, the Dursleys have been cast in the upcoming HBO Max "Harry Potter" series. Variety reports Bel Powley will play Petunia while Daniel Rigby will play Vernon. There's no word yet on the casting for their son, Dudley. Bel Powley and Daniel Rigby have been cast as the elder Dursleys in the live-action 'HARRY POTTER' series. Finally there is the Weasley matriarch Molly Weasley, who is being played by Katherine Parkinson. This news comes following the reveal that the three heroes themselves had finally been chosen for the reboot series. But producers insisted on using it as they thought it a suitably windswept location. A TV insider said: 'This caused a certain amount of amusement among the British crew who all agreed that they could have easily got windswept in virtually any part of the British Isles.
