Google Pixel Watch 4 size, processor and battery capacity leaked ahead of August launch

The next Pixel event from Google is just around the corner, and while the Pixel 10 phones have already seen a good number of leaks, the Pixel Watch 4 has managed to stay relatively under the radar, at least until now. A new report by the Android Authority has revealed key details about the upcoming smartwatch, including its size variants, battery capacities and the chipset it's expected to run on. While fans were hoping for a big performance jump, the reality may not match expectations. That said, the Pixel Watch 4 still seems like a thoughtful upgrade in a few important is likely to offer the Pixel Watch 4 in two sizes this year — 41mm and 45mm — just like last year's Pixel Watch 3. Internally, the watches are codenamed 'meridian' (41mm) and 'kenari' (45mm), a fun change from the mythology-inspired names used for previous generations. This time, Google has gone with Star Wars-themed names, which is a nice little touch. Both sizes are expected to come in LTE and Wi-Fi-only you were hoping for a faster processor, though, you might be slightly let down. According to the report, the Pixel Watch 4 will stick with the same Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 chip used in the Pixel Watch 2 and Watch 3. This will mark the third year Google has used the same chipset. While it might sound underwhelming on paper, the W5 Gen 1 has proven to be reliable and power-efficient in real-world usage, and Google has clearly learned how to get the most out of it. The reason for this choice seems to come down to timing. Qualcomm is currently working on a new 'sw6100' wearable chip, but it's not expected to be ready in time for the Pixel Watch 4 launch. Switching to Samsung's Exynos chips is also unlikely, especially as Google is rumoured to be developing its own custom chip for future Pixel Watches starting next upgrade that will be welcome, however, is in the battery department. The 41mm Pixel Watch 4 will reportedly have a 327mAh battery, which is about 7 per cent larger than the 307mAh battery on the current model. The bigger 45mm model will get an even better bump, from 420mAh to 459mAh, roughly a 9 per cent increase. While exact charging speeds haven't been confirmed, faster charging is also is widely expected to unveil the Pixel Watch 4 alongside the Pixel 10 series at its next hardware event on August 20. While we're still waiting for official confirmation and pricing details, this early leak gives us a good idea of what to expect.- Ends

How to create custom running workouts on the Google Pixel Watch 3

The Google Pixel Watch 3 is the best Android smartwatch to buy right now and for good reason. It looks great, offers slick software, and makes the most of its Fitbit-powered health and fitness features to make it a pretty complete package. If you're a runner, Google's latest smartwatch has you well catered for, and that includes the ability to build custom running workouts. You might already know this as interval training, but if not, this is the type of running session made up of sections of low-intensity and high-intensity running. This type of session can offer benefits for your running pace and running endurance. If you're keen to give interval running a go and like the idea of your Pixel Watch guiding you through how to do it while you keep an eye on your progress, you can do this on both the watch and inside the Fitbit app. We'll show you how to do both, whether you like the idea of creating workouts on a bigger screen or you like the convenience of doing it right on the watch. If you're finding it a bit fiddly to build those workouts on the watch, you do have the option to build them on the Fitbit app. You can then sync them to the watch where you'll be able to select it from the run tracking screen when you're ready to do it. The first important part is that you'll need to download the Fitbit app first, which hopefully you've done already with the initial setup of your watch. Connecting your Pixel Watch 3 to the Fitbit app will enable you to get the most out of the onboard health and fitness features. Once you've got that Fitbit app and you're all logged in, here's what you need to do: Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. To locate it, open up the run tracking option in the Fitbit Exercise app, tap that icon with the stack of squares and you should see your created workout in the next screen. Tap to select and you'll see your workout displayed to give you a look at what you're about to tackle.

Qualcomm is working on a much better chipset for smartwatches

According to a new rumor, Qualcomm is currently working on a new chipset for smartwatches, codenamed Aspen and bearing the model number SW6100. From that we can infer that it will be marketed as the Snapdragon Wear W6, as the W5 has the model number SW5100. Interestingly, the new chip isn't based on any existing Qualcomm product, unlike all of its predecessors. The Snapdragon Wear W6 is bespoke for wearable platforms, and its CPU will have one Cortex-A78 core and four Cortex-A55 cores, alongside support for LPDDR5X RAM. It will be built by TSMC. Google's Pixel Watch 3 uses the SW5100 The W5 was unveiled in 2022, and so it's definitely high time for a replacement from Qualcomm. The W6 seems to focus on performance with switching from four Cortex-A53 cores in its predecessor to four Cortex-A55 and a Cortex-A78 big core. If that configuration seems familiar, it's because Samsung's Exynos W1000 also uses it. It's unclear when Qualcomm will bring the new SoC to the market, but it might be announced in September at its annual Snapdragon summit, in which case we should see the first smartwatches using it appear in early 2026.
