Android 16 Update, Gemini For Watches And Car: Everything Announced At The Android Show 2025
Last Updated:
Google's Android Show 2025 has given us the details about the Android 16 design, where Gemini AI will be available this year on cars and TVs.
Google I/O 2025 is still a week away but the company has announced new Android features, Gemini updates at The Android Show 2025 on Tuesday. The first major show of the year for Google comes with a slew of details, including where the company plans to offer the Gemini AI assistant later this year.
And yes, the Android 16 design UI leaks have been confirmed with the Android show, and we are going to see a funkier version of Android for users this time around. But people have been asking when will Gemini come to the smartwatches, the TVs and inside the cars? Well, Google has answered those and more with this show this week.
Android Show Summary: What Google Announced
New Android 16 Push
Android 16 is getting a design UI makeover called the Material Expressive this year. Google says the interface will be more fluid with smooth animations across the UI and notification cards. Android is also getting Live activities-like features called real-time updates to keep you posted on the status of your cab or the food delivery service, all on the lock screen.
Android 16 is also going to improve its security measures with better protection offered if your device gets lost, and you don't want the data on it to be exposed. Scam protection will soon be available for more messages, and all of the data processing will be done on-device using AI.
Android is also going to offer better range for tracking devices via Find Hub, which now will also support airline tracking systems, similar to AirTag tracker from Apple. And finally, satellite comms support is coming to Find My for Google in the near future.
The Big Wear OS 6 Upgrades
And yes, smartwatches are also going to see new changes with the Android 16-based Wear OS 6 version this year. Google is bringing colour themes to Pixel Watch models later this year, and Gemini will let you handle tasks, answer queries and more (set reminders for events and dinner).
Basically you get all the Gemini features on your wrist and you don't even have to look at the phone. Google says Gemini on Wear OS 6 will be compatible with most watches, which should include the Galaxy Watch series and the Pixel Watch models launched till date.
Google wants to bring Gemini not just on the watches but every other possible avenue/platform where its smartness can be integrated. So, yes Gemini for cars ( via Android auto) is the next destination for the AI assistant this year. Google has even shown us a preview of how Gemini would look on the car console.
You can check for events in mail, seek nearest charging point, ask for cafes based on random context prompts with voice commands and more. Basically, everything you do with Gemini on the phones, Android Auto will support more or less.
Smart TVs will also be part of the Gemini expansion project, which was an obvious decision for Google. The company says Gemini AI will let you ask to play action movies with context such as, right PG for kids, get the right youtube video for your mood and many other variations rather than typing the whole name of the movie or a TV show on the big screen.
The mixed reality ecosystem is yet to be launched by Google but the company has confirmed that Android XR, the VisionOS rival will also get Gemini voice support through the compatible headsets that will be launching later in 2025. Samsung has already teased its XR headset earlier this year, and we expect more brands to tap into the Android XR platform for their headsets in the coming years, who will have Gemini support available from day one.

"False Endorsements, Real Losses": AI-Enabled Financial Scams On The Rise
New Delhi: A digital risk firm has raised an alarm over the rapid rise of AI-enabled financial scams in India in a devastating report that analysed some cases, including a deep fake video of Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in which she is seen endorsing fraudulent cryptocurrency. The initial wave emerged with the circulation of deep fake videos featuring Google CEO Sundar Pichai, in which he was falsely portrayed as endorsing a platform called Google Invest, described as a government-supported initiative offering unusually high returns, the report titled 'False Endorsements, Real Losses' by digital risk management firm Athenian Tech said. In its more evolved form, the fraud assumed a sophisticated disguise - a recent campaign replicated the layout and typographic style of the Times of India website to lend journalistic legitimacy to a platform named 'Go Invest' using the image of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the report said. Further investigations indicate the same ecosystem released a deep fake video of Ms Sitharaman, in which she appeared to be endorsing another fictitious initiative called 'InvestGPT', said the report by the company founded by Kanishk Gaur, who has led leadership roles with Deloitte, EY, and Synopsis. The video, similar in structure to the earlier clip of Mr Pichai, used manipulated lip-sync and voice synthesis to simulate endorsement, reinforcing a now-familiar strategy that relies on public trust in institutional figures, it said. In the 'threat analysis' section, the report highlighted the implications of such synthetic media - they create a misleading sense of legitimacy by showing trusted public figures; they blur the boundaries between authentic and manipulated communication, distorting public perception, and they inflict lasting reputational damage - even after content removal - by spreading doubt and misinformation across digital channels. To fight this new class of digital fraud, the report recommended steps beyond domain takedowns. "What is required is a coordinated strategy that encompasses early detection mechanisms, robust user education, media verification protocols, and stronger accountability from platforms that host such content. In an age where seeing is no longer enough to believe, vigilance must become the default posture," the report said. It also suggested reporting the domain to CERT-In and other cyber security authorities for immediate takedown, notifying the domain registrar and hosting provider to suspend the website, blocking the URL within networks to prevent users from accessing it, raising public awareness about such scams through social media and official advisories, and monitoring for similar domains that may copy this scam to continue the fraud under new names.

IRCTC deploys AI-based solution to curb illegal booking practices, blocks 3.5 crore fake IDs
An unauthorised ticket booking agent now cannot make simultaneous multiple attempts on the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation ( IRCTC ) platform using fake accounts to increase the chances of getting a confirmed ticket for a prospective passenger, officials said on Wednesday. "In a major step towards bringing fairness in the railway ticket booking system, the IRCTC has deployed AI-based advanced technical solutions to curb unauthorized ticketing practices by detecting and deactivating such user IDs created with disposable (short-duration) email addresses, and ensuring equal access for all passengers," an IRCTC official told PTI. The IRCTC has blocked 3.5 crore fraudulent user IDs over the past one year, significantly reducing system congestion on its platform, the official said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Arranca en RD el programa gratuito de educación financiera de la bolsa de valores Clases de Economía Undo Explaining how unauthorized agents would manipulate the platform, the official said, "Let's presume that a person named A approaches an unauthorized agent to get a ticket booked from Delhi to Agra. The agent will use several disposable email IDs (using domain names available on Google) and mobile numbers to create, let's say, 30 profiles on IRCTC platform." He said that during user ID or profile creation, an OTP is sent on the email ID and the agent uses that OTP to verify its authenticity. Live Events "However, after authentication, the email ID becomes invalid but the profile remains. Now, these unauthorised agents use such multiple profiles to book a ticket for A. So there are 30 requests or attempts to enhance the chance to book a ticket for A only. They also use bots (automated software applications that perform repetitive tasks) for this purpose," he added. The official said that the system gets crowded when, let's say, 30 attempts are made for one person. "Imagine, similar attempts are being made for 1,000 passengers which come to 30,000 attempts. This limits opportunities for those prospective passengers who made a single attempt," he said. To counter these fraudulent attempts, IRCTC's latest Artificial Intelligence- and Machine Learning-based Bot detection technology identifies and neutralizes such accounts before they can disrupt the booking system, he said. The company said that the initiative has already yielded positive results, with the creation of new user IDs on the IRCTC platform dropping from 60,000 to 65,000 per day to just 10,000 to 12,000, thereby easing system load and streamlining ticket reservations. The IRCTC officials emphasized that this move ensures a level playing field for every passenger, preventing unauthorized agents from exploiting the system. "In recent months alone, 7,000 disposable email IDs have been blocked, further strengthening ticketing integrity," another official said. He added, "With this breakthrough, IRCTC continues to refine its digital infrastructure, fostering a more transparent, accessible, and efficient railway booking experience for millions across India."
