Tom Felton reprises Draco Malfoy character for Harry Potter play
Tom Felton is reprising his role as Draco Malfoy for the Harry Potter And The Cursed Child play in New York. The Surrey-born actor, who starred in all the film adaptations of JK Rowling's fantasy novel until the last movie in 2011, will make a comeback as Harry Potter's school bully on Broadway at the Lyric Theatre in New York later this year. Felton, 37, made his West End debut in the supernatural thriller 2:22 - A Ghost Story in 2022. He will begin his performance on 11 November for a limited 19 weeks in Harry Potter And The Cursed Child, the Instagram page for the production said on Thursday. The play, written by Adolescence co-creator Jack Thorne, began in 2016 in London and has had a Broadway run since 2018. It was co-devised by Rowling and is set 19 years after the events of the seventh and final book, with Ministry of Magic employee Harry and his wife Ginny Weasley waving off their youngest son Albus Severus to school. The two-part play, which stretches over five hours, sees Albus struggle at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry with the weight of his family legacy and go to extreme and dangerous lengths to right the wrongs of the past. Since the ending of the film franchise, Felton has been in 2011's Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes and had recurring roles in the TV series Murder In The First, The Flash and Origin. He has also used his voice in the Harry Potter video games, based on the movie, and featured in the special Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return To Hogwarts alongside Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson, who played Harry, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger.

Skellig Michael boat trips can resume, court rules
The High Court has given the go ahead for boat trips to Skellig Michael to resume. Mr Justice Garrett Simons granted an application by the Office of Public Works (OPW) to lift an automatic suspension on landing at the Unesco heritage site and former monastic island, which was also used as a film location for the Star Wars movies, The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi. The order will allow the OPW to enter into a legally binding contract with each of 15 boat operators who were successful in the public competition for permits to land on the island off the Kerry coast. The landing season runs from mid-May to the end of September each year. Those landing permits were automatically suspended when two unsuccessful bidders brought a High Court challenge to the decision. The OPW then had to apply to the court asking that the stay be lifted pending hearing of the substantive challenge. The unsuccessful bidders, Atlantic Endeavour Ltd and SMBT Ltd, trading as Skellig Michael Boat Trips, disagreed with the OPW interpretation of the legal effect of the automatic suspension. They contended there were a number of mechanisms open whereby landing permits might legitimately be granted to the successful tenderers for the balance of the 2025 season, while preserving their own right to challenge the allocation of landing permits for the 2026 and subsequent seasons. Mr Justice Simons heard the application to lift the suspension this week and on Thursday ordered that it be lifted. He said the practical effect of this order was that it would now be legally permissible for the OPW to issue landing permits to the 15 successful tenderers for the balance of the 2025 season. This will allow for the commencement of passenger landings at Skellig Michael, or Sceilg Mhichíl in Irish. He said his judgment entails no finding whatsoever on whether the outcome of the tender process allows the OPW to confine the right to land passengers on Sceilg Mhichíl to the 15 successful tenderers for a five-year period. The proper interpretation of the request for tender and associated documentation, and the legal consequences of the tender process, remain open for debate at the trial of the action, he said. The judgment, he said "goes no further" than deciding the execution of concession contracts does not result in the crystallisation of a contractual right on the part of the successful tenderers to exclusive landing rights for the 2026 and subsequent seasons. He said the significance of this finding was that the unsuccessful tenderers were not relegated to a claim for certain damages in respect of the 2026 and subsequent seasons. The only right which the OPW seeks to translate into a concluded contract, prior to the determination of the full High Court challenge, is confined to the 2025 landing season, he said. He said he was listing the substantive action for the alleged breaches of the public procurement legislation in July.

Ksenia Samotiy: Rebel leader or sexual fantasy in a gold bikini? What Star Wars tells us about women being sidelined in their own story
Pop culture has long treated female interest in 'Star Wars' as either accidental or secondary – and the films themselves don't always help 'Things I never thought would happen No. 42: Ksenia sending me Star Wars-related memes' texted my boyfriend a couple of days ago, as he bravely battled through the backlog of Instagram reels I'd sent him. He's not wrong. Until a few days ago, the likelihood of me understanding a Star Wars meme was lower than the chance of something sensible coming out of Donald Trump's mouth. What's equally remarkable is how I finally saw the light (saber). It's not that I didn't know anything about Star Wars, more that I'd never watched the source material. I mostly knew of it from other things, such as the fact that for Ross from Friends, his ultimate sexual fantasy was Leia in a golden bikini. Most of all, though, I knew about Star Wars from my religious dedication to The Big Bang Theory. Not that I'm comparing myself with Penny, of course, but like her (at least in the earlier seasons), I have expressed bemusement when nerdy guys try to indoctrinate me about Star-related franchises, confident that I most definitely have better things to do with my time.
