Chicago held on for a 97 to 92 victory despite Wings guard Arike Ogunbowale pouring in 37 points and rookie guard Paige Bueckers chipping in another 15 points and eight assists. Sky forward Kamilla Cardoso scored a career-high 23 points, and veteran guard Ariel Atkins added another 17.
2024 WNBA All-Star Angel Reese pitched in a well-rounded six points, nine rebounds and five assists in the win.

Early in the first quarter, Reese caught the ball at the high post and attacked the basket, slicing a pass between two Wings defenders to find Elizabeth Williams for an easy finish. The WNBA posted the clip on their social media and reacted to the pass.
"What a dime by Angel Reese 🤯 ," the WNBA wrote. "She attacks the rim and dumps it off to Elizabeth Williams for the finish!"
Through five games, Reese is averaging 9.2 points and 13.0 rebounds per contest, which leads the entire WNBA. Her assist and steal numbers are both up from last year as well, contributing 2.8 assists and 1.6 steals per night in 2025.

Chicago will look to outlast the Wings on Saturday evening in their final game before the Commissioner's Cup begins in June.
Their first matchup will be on June 7 against the Indiana Fever, which means they will have a week to recover before potentially playing a healthy Caitlin Clark.

Sovereignty vs. Journalism in the Belmont gives horse racing a Kentucky Derby rematch

Horse racing is getting a Kentucky Derby rematch in the Belmont Stakes at Saratoga Race Course on Saturday to close out the Triple Crown. Derby winner Sovereignty and runner-up Journalism, who won the Preakness two weeks later, headline the field of eight in the Belmont. Add in Baeza, and the top three finishers from the first Saturday in May are involved. 'We're delighted to have the first three horses out of the Derby challenging each other again,' said Michael Banahan of Godolphin, which owns Sovereignty. 'It's a quality race. ... It should set up well, and may the best horse win.' Journalism opened as the 8-5 morning line favorite with Sovereignty the second choice at 4-1. Journalism won the Preakness run without Sovereignty after owners and trainer Bill Mott opted to give their horse extra rest. The intent was to focus on the Belmont rather than chase the chance for Sovereignty to become the sport's 14th Triple Crown champion and first since Justify in 2018. 'We felt that the best thing for him and to have a career through the whole season, and maybe into next year as well, was spacing his races a little bit,' Banahan said. 'Bill Mott, who's trained horses for us for a long time, is very judicious about where he wants to place his horses. And we put a lot of faith in the recommendations that he would give us.' Michael McCarthy-trained Journalism is the only horse running in all three legs of the Triple Crown this year. And he is the favorite for a reason. 'Journalism is a very tough horse,' said John Shirreffs, who trains Baeza. 'One thing about Journalism, (if) he runs his race (like in) Kentucky, Pimlico, he's very tough. He's solid. So, it's going to be a very difficult horse to beat.' Shirrefs said Baeza is emerging and developing, hoping the half-brother of last year's Belmont winner, Dornoch, can stride along and get past Sovereignty and Journalism this time. 'Hopefully we get out of the gate well and get a nice pace,' Shirrefs said. 'It's just the how the race unfolds and him not getting into any trouble.' Long shot Heart of Honor is running again after finishing fifth in the Preakness three weeks ago. New to the Triple Crown trail are Hill Road, Uncaged, Crudo and Rodriguez, who was scratched from the Derby with a minor foot bruise that also caused him to miss the Preakness. Banahan expects Rodriguez to go to the lead, as so many of Hall of Fame and two-time Triple Crown-winning trainer Bob Baffert's top horses do, and provide the main speed. 'That horse is going to be ready,' Chad Brown, trainer of Hill Road, said of Rodriguez. 'You can be assured of that. And it sure looks like he's by far the fastest horse in the race.' Brown has won the Preakness twice but never the Belmont. After going to Saratoga with his parents while growing up and getting into horse racing as a result, he's hoping to end his drought at his home track. 'We have a very unique time in history where there'll be three Belmont Stakes run total at Saratoga before you'll never see another one again,' Brown said. 'So, to be part of history with that, that would be extra special.' ___ AP horse racing:

Sierra Madre search and rescue team faces financial difficulties following Eaton Fire

A local search and rescue team that helped evacuate people during the Eaton Fire now needs rescuing of its own. The Sierra Madre Search and Rescue team is dealing with unexpected costs from the fire. Rob Klusman, a healthcare consultant, is the team's operations leader. He has been with the organization for 29 years. "Most of our responses we have are all away from vehicles and up trails, so we have to walk to everything or fly," Klusman said. Lauren Capoccia, a San Bernardino nurse, also volunteers as one of 42 team members. The Sierra Madre Search and Rescue team has 42 members who help respond to fires at no cost in the steep terrain of the San Gabriel Mountains. KCAL News They have all put in hundreds of hours a year responding to calls for help at no cost in the steep, unforgiving terrain of the San Gabriel Mountains. When the Eaton Fire started the night of Jan. 7, they were called to help with evacuations. "We were up in the canyon evacuating houses, making sure people out aware of going on," Capoccia said. Helping residents evacuate came at a cost to the hardworking nonprofit that has a budget of about $80,000. They need pickets for anchors, replacement rescue ropes, replacement fire shelters and they need a new rescue truck. "This truck is 25 years old at this point," Klusman said. The rescue team has set up an online fundraising campaign and Klusman, like every team member, saves money where they can. "I used dental floss to sew up and close the holes," he said about his gloves. Members spend thousands of their own money to buy their gear. In their free time, they train in the mountains charred by the fire. With dead and burned trees after fire, they now have to haul up a 45-pound bag of metal pickets to conduct the rescue missions. "For the next 5-8 years, once they re-open this, we are prepared to use picks and tools," Klusman explained. "Can't rely on trees or natural anchors that used to be here." Even with the financial difficulties, the team remains determined to keep protecting the people in their foothill city, at whatever cost.
