Albanese expected to meet with Trump on sidelines of G7 in Canada
Deputy Nationals Leader Kevin Hogan has commented on Prime Minister Anthony Albanese's expected meeting with US President Donald Trump.
The Prime Minister is expected to meet with the US President on the sidelines of the G7 in Canada in the upcoming weeks.
'Really happy that he's finally going to meet in person, Donald Trump. He's one of the few leaders who hasn't met him personally,' Mr Hogan told Sky News Australia.
'Obviously, an important part of our relationship with the US is our national security alliance, and I think it's important they chat about issues like that as well.'

PM resists Trump on tariffs and defence
Anthony Albanese has pushed back against the Trump administration's higher steel tariffs and pressure on Australia to spend more on defence, setting up a testing first face-to-face meeting between the prime minister and US president at the G7 in a fortnight. Albanese declared on Sunday that the US was committing an economic 'act of self harm' by increasing prices for American consumers, after Trump shocked allies and partners by doubling tariffs on foreign steel and aluminium sold in the United States to 50 per cent.

US slams Hamas response to Gaza ceasefire proposal
Jerusalem | The White House on Saturday (Sunday AEST) denounced Hamas' response to a new US ceasefire proposal as totally unacceptable and said it 'only takes us backward' after the group sought firmer guarantees that the deal would lead to a permanent end to the war. Under the US proposal, which was floated by Steve Witkoff, President Donald Trump's Middle East envoy, Israel and Hamas would halt the fighting in the Gaza Strip for at least 60 days, during which some hostages would be freed in exchange for Palestinians jailed by Israel. And there would be further US-backed negotiations on a permanent end to the war.

EU threatens retaliation over Trump's steel tariffs hike
Brussels | The European Commission said on Saturday (Sunday AEST) that Europe was prepared to retaliate against President Donald Trump's plan to double tariffs on imported steel and aluminium, raising the prospect of an escalating trade fight between two of the world's largest economic powers. Trump's announcement on Friday that he would increase tariffs on imported steel and aluminium to 50 per cent from 25 per cent intensifies his global trade war, and came just hours after he accused China of violating an agreement with the US to mutually roll back levies and trade restrictions for critical minerals.
