Sharjah schools' report card: 14 ranked 'very good' for 2025
The number of private schools in Sharjah ranked 'very good' has gone up to 14 in 2025, after the latest inspection cycle showed five schools move to the top category.
Releasing the data for the third cycle of the Itqan programme for the 2024–2025 academic year, the Sharjah Private Education Authority (SPEA) said it marks a huge improvement from 2018 when only one school was classified 'very good'.
In the latest inspection of 86 schools, 53 were graded 'good' and 28 as 'acceptable'.
No school was rated 'weak' or 'very weak'.
The education regulatory board highlighted that the 'good' school category also marked progress, moving up from seven schools in 2018 to 79 schools in 2025.
Meanwhile, the number of 'acceptable' schools dropped from 68 to 28.
Ali Al-Hosani, Director-General of SPEA, said Itqan not only monitors performance but also provides a structured roadmap for continuous improvement.
It was introduced to evaluate the performance of private schools and ensure it meets the standards set under the UAE's national school evaluation framework.
Al-Hosani added that engaging parents, students and staff through surveys offers valuable insight into the quality of education and helps identify areas for improvement. Itqan also includes school leadership and professional development programmes exclusively for teachers and staff.
A self-assessment initiative also supports schools in periodically reviewing their performance to identify strengths and areas for growth.
Latest inspection report
Field visits were conducted across 86 schools offering 10 curricula. Of these, 43 schools were rated 'Good' in 2022–2023, 37 schools rated 'Acceptable' in 2023–2024, and six new schools.
The evaluation took place in two phases, covering 33 schools between the November 4-28, 2024, and 53 schools between January 20-February 20, 2025. It included classroom observations, document reviews, activity participation and stakeholder meetings. Surveys also gathered input from 40,838 parents, 44,810 students and 5,698 teachers.

SRTA launches proactive plan for 5600 trips during Eid
Engineer Yousef Khamis Al Othmani, the head of the SRTA, highlighted the importance of being well-prepared during holidays. He noted that during the Eid al-Adha holiday in 2025, which runs from June 5 to 8, there will be a noticeable rise in public transport users. To handle this, the SRTA has made plans to operate 180 buses on various routes, aiming to complete around 5,600 trips over the four days. During peak times, buses will come every 5 minutes instead of the usual 45-minute wait. This means shorter waiting times and more convenience for everyone traveling. The authority is committed to making travel easy for people visiting family or exploring popular destinations, both within the emirate and outside it. They are also increasing staff at busy bus stations, especially the Jubail Bus Station, which will be open from early morning until late at night to accommodate the larger number of passengers expected during this busy holiday. Regular comprehensive trips The Authority has improved bus services in Sharjah City for the Eid holiday, making travel easier for everyone. They are running a total of 1,144 bus trips each day across 12 different routes, using 104 buses that connect to 543 stops around the city. Al-Othmani pointed out that these efforts are part of a plan to create a well-rounded public transport system that meets the growing need for travel during busy times like holidays. He noted that Route 22 will not be in service during the Eid holiday because the Souq Al Haraj market is closed. To make things easier for passengers, they have made some changes, including quicker arrival times and more ticket sales points at bus stations and inside buses, to minimize delays and crowding. To manage passenger flow, especially at the Jubail station, the teams have stepped up their preparations. They have increased the number of staff on duty and are providing the necessary support to ensure smooth operations. They are also allowing people to book bus tickets in advance and are keeping a close eye on how things are running to maintain a high level of service. Maritime transport During the Eid Al Adha holiday, there will be a special boat service operating between Sharjah and Dubai. Abdul Aziz Al Jarwan, who is in charge of transport at the local authority, announced that there will be four daily trips. These boats will leave from the Aquarium Station in Sharjah and arrive at Al Ghubaiba Station in Dubai, working together with Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority. The trips will run from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM, with a boat leaving every two hours. Each journey will take about 35 minutes. Passengers are encouraged to arrive at the station at least 15 minutes before their departure to ensure a smooth boarding process. This service is designed to provide more transportation options for everyone and help connect different types of transport. Promoting tourism Al Jarwan shared that the Authority is working closely with the Omani transport company, Mwasalat, to run international route 203. This route connects Sharjah with Muscat, the capital of Oman, and offers two flights each day. This service is expected to encourage tourism between the two countries, especially during the Eid holidays. Passengers can board at Jubail station and travel to Al Athaiba station, making stops along the way. Tickets can be purchased online through Mwasalat Oman's website or at their service points. Public engagement Al Jarwan mentioned that during the Eid holiday, a special call center will be available 24 hours a day to help people book taxis. This includes different types of vehicles like regular taxis, family-sized cars, options for women, vehicles for those with special needs, and electric cars. You can make reservations by phone, through a smartphone app, or by visiting a website. The call center keeps an eye on all the bookings to make sure taxis arrive as fast as possible. It also welcomes feedback from the public regarding bus and taxi services, helps with reports of lost bags, and answers questions about the services offered across the emirate, including Sharjah City and other regions. He highlighted that the call center plays a vital role in connecting with the community, gathering and analyzing feedback to improve services in the future.

Friends for Diabetes Society concludes "The Superhero" programme
The programme was implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and the Sharjah Private Education Authority and was sponsored by Gaia Healthcare. The ceremony was attended by Khawla Al Haj, Chairperson of the Friends for Diabetes Society, Iman Rashid Saif, Director General of the Health Promotion Department, along with several government officials and principals from participating schools. Now in its 13th edition, the program ran throughout the academic year starting from September 2024. It witnessed remarkable engagement from students, parents, and educators, with participation from 70 public and private schools across various regions of Sharjah, benefiting over 55,601 students. A total of 1,642 educational workshops were conducted within schools to promote health awareness, in addition to several health exhibitions, school visits, and awareness competitions. A total of 205 creative works, demonstrating students' understanding of diabetes, were submitted and evaluated by specialized assessors. On this occasion, Khawla Al Haj, Chairperson of the Friends for Diabetes Society stated: "'The Superhero' program is not just an initiative—it's a social and humanitarian message highlighting that true heroism lies in awareness, acceptance, and support. Through this program, we aimed to empower children with diabetes and foster a culture of prevention and inclusion within the school environment. The overwhelming engagement we witnessed from students, their families and educators, confirms that investing in awareness is an investment in a healthier and safer future." The event concluded with the honoring of 51 winning students and 12 participating schools, in recognition of their creativity and excellence across the program's activities. The ceremony reflected a strong sense of community involvement and fruitful collaboration between the health and education sectors.

Reading champions honouredat 'Sultan's Wisdom' ceremony
Sharjah Private Education Authority (SPEA) honoured the winners of 'Sultan's Wisdom: Empowering Minds' initiative, launched at the beginning of the second semester of the current academic year. The initiative, launched under the slogan 'Science and Knowledge: Reason for Progress and the Foundation of Development,' saw the participation of 45 private schools in the emirate, including students in grades 9, 10, and 11 across all curricula. The initiative is based on selecting a book written by His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and offering it to school students for reading and review. The initiative aims to instil a culture of creativity and excellence in students and strengthen their connection to narrative, history, thought, and dialogue, which Sheikh Sultan focuses on in his writings. It also aims to develop free reading skills within the school community and foster a spirit of competition among private school students within the targeted age group. SPEA developed a comprehensive operational plan for the initiative, encompassing several integrated phases. It began with the launch and promotion phase within schools and across social media platforms, coinciding with the start of the second semester of the 2024-2025 academic year. The initiative saw widespread participation, with 847 students participating in the internal school qualifiers. The Authority was responsible for designing the competition questions and supervising the implementation of all phases, from announcing the conditions and participation mechanisms, to organising the preliminary competitions within schools, and finally culminating in the final qualifiers, which were conducted in the form of electronic tests. This aimed to enhance students' understanding of Sheikh Sultan's thought and encourage them to read, think critically, and conduct scientific research. Following these qualifiers, 90 students qualified for the final stage, which was held in May 2025 at the Sharjah Education Academy (SEA). The selection criteria included evaluating reading skills, comprehension, understanding, analysis, synthesis, and expressing opinions, with a focus on the positive values and attitudes the student acquired during their cognitive journey with the book, and the lessons learned from the thought of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah. The initiative's timeline reflected careful planning and implementation, as well as effective coordination between the various stakeholders, ensuring the smooth running of the initiative and achieving maximum interaction and benefit for all participants.
