‘Hell of an over': Ben Duckett ‘happy' to see Harry Brook survive Jasprit Bumrah's fiery final over at Leeds on Day 2
Despite being castled by Jasprit Bumrah shortly before the end of day two, England opener Ben Duckett could not help but admire and hail the India speedster's magic final over that nearly got him his fourth wicket on day two of the Leeds Test.
On yet another day where Bumrah stood head and shoulders above his bowling peers, India captain Shubman Gill had to turn to the menacing right-arm pacer every time he needed a breakthrough after Bumrah dismissed opener Zak Crawley in the first over. That was the tone for the rest of the evening as England got off to reduce their 471-run first-innings deficit quickly, speeding past 100 before tea as Bumrah's fellow pacers Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna and Shardul Thakur leaked runs rapidly.
Turning up for the final over before stumps after rattling Duckett's stumps earlier in the session and dismissing No. 4 Joe Root in the penultimate over, Bumrah tormented new batter Harry Brook, who survived by a whisker. Bumrah froze Brook at the crease with a magnificent bouncer that had the batter miscue a pull towards Siraj at mid-wicket. However, fortune swung the Englishman's way as Bumrah had delivered a third no-ball in the over. Bumrah served up another rip-snorting bumper to finish the day, with Brook ducking out of the shot to remain unbeaten on zero off 12 deliveries.

'It's a hell of an over, you know, watching him do his thing, Jasprit (Bumrah). He's very good to watch, you know, and Brookie (Harry Brook) just to come off air. He's not out. So happy days,' said Duckett in praise of Bumrah after being knocked over by the 31-year-old pacer on 62.
The left-hander was, however, content with how England went about the day after triggering a late Indian collapse that had the visitors lose seven wickets for 41 runs.
'Well, I think very good. It could have been a lot worse. I think we took six for 40, maybe, you know, on another 41. Another day, you know, that there's 600 plus or whatever. So I think starting off like that and then, as I've spoken about Jasprit running down the hill there with the lights on, it wasn't easy against that new ball. So to be where we are, I think we will definitely take the day we've had. It's just about trying to win that first session tomorrow,' Duckett said.
Bumrah emerged as the pick of the bowlers, snapping all three wickets in 13 overs, with England finishing on 209/3, 262 behind India's total.

IND vs ENG: ‘Same impact as Sir Richard Hadlee'- Sanjay Manjrekar lauds Jasprit Bumrah
Jasprit Bumrah (Photo by) Jasprit Bumrah emerged as India's standout performer on Day 2 of the Leeds Test, claiming all three England wickets while his teammates struggled. As England reached 209/3 at stumps, Bumrah's figures of 3/48 highlighted his effectiveness on a day when the rest of India's bowling attack appeared ineffective at Headingley. Bumrah's victims included Zak Crawley, who fell early for 4 runs, followed by Ben Duckett for 62 and Joe Root for 28. The dismissal of Root proved particularly crucial in the context of the game. Former India cricketer and JioHotstar expert Sanjay Manjrekar praised Bumrah's performance, drawing parallels with New Zealand legend Sir Richard Hadlee. "We've seen four hundreds in the match so far -- three from India and one from England -- but which bowler has been truly special? For me, it's just Bumrah," Manjrekar said on 'Match Centre Live' after Day 2's play. 04:54 India lose momentum on Day 2 | England Fight Back at Headingley "Just the ability to manufacture a wicket every time he came into the attack is what stands out. The one bowler that comes to mind, someone with that kind of impact single-handedly, is Sir Richard Hadlee. He played for a New Zealand team with a relatively weaker attack, but every time he came on, you felt a wicket was around the corner," Manjrekar observed. Quiz: Who's that IPL player? Crispin Chettri says his squad is 'shaping up well' for AFC Women's Asian Cup 2026 qualifiers
The Indian senior women's team will kick off their AFC Women's Asian Cup Australia 2026 Qualifiers campaign on Monday and will look to create new history in the 21st century after having three podium finishes in the erstwhile Asian Women's Championship (runners-up in 1980 and 1983, and third place in 1981). India (ranked 70th) will face Mongolia (ranked 126th) on June 23, Timor Leste (ranked 158th) on June 29, Iraq (ranked 173rd) on July 2 and hosts Thailand (ranked 46th) on July 5, at the 700th Anniversary of Chiang Mai Stadium. Only the group winners will qualify for the final tournament in Australia in March 2026. The AFC Women's Asian Cup 2026 will also serve as a qualifier for the FIFA Women's World Cup Brazil 2027. Apart from Thailand, India have never faced the other three Group B opponents before. "We don't have much information about Mongolia, Timor Leste and Iraq. They haven't played any matches recently. We do know a bit about Thailand. They played two games against Nepal in the last window, and one of them was closed doors," said Chettri. "I tried different variations in our friendlies (against Uzbekistan). I tested many combinations in midfield, involving Sangita (Basfore), Karthika (Angamuthu), Ratanbala (Nongmaithem), Grace (Dangmei) and Anju (Tamang)." While India lost both friendlies 0-1 against Uzbekistan on May 30 and June 3, it was significant preparation for the all-important qualifiers. Indian women, who had trained in Bengaluru since the start of May, travelled to Chiang Mai a week before the first game against Mongolia, and have had four full training sessions so far, including an intra-squad match. "I think coming to Chiang Mai earlier has helped us a lot to acclimatise to the weather conditions and adjust to the time difference. The weather here is a bit more humid than in Bengaluru. The training ground is great and we're shaping up well for the forthcoming matches. We also played a full 90-minute match amongst ourselves on Thursday," said Chettri. With an average age of just 23.6 years, Chettri has named a fairly young squad consisting of a lot of newcomers. But that's not to say there's a dearth of experience. For Malavika, there's a Dangmei Grace, for Priyadharshini, there's an Anju Tamang, for Phanjoubam Nirmala Devi, there's a Ngangbam Sweety Devi. "We have a very good mix of youth and experience. We had 18-year-old goalkeeper Monalisha (Moirangthem) debut against Uzbekistan. I'm not scared to play with youngsters because this is how they are going to gain experience. And playing such important AFC matches will help us grow," said Chettri. 'Staying and working together for more than 45 days has done a great deal of good for their chemistry, and now what matters is executing it on the pitch. The focus on the training pitch has shifted more to tactical details. "We're done working on the physical aspects now. We're focusing on patterns and set pieces every day, whether it's defending or attacking. We'll also know more about the opponents as the qualifiers progress," Chettri added. AFC Women's Asian Cup Australia 2026 Qualifiers Group B Schedule: June 23: Mongolia vs India (14:30 IST) June 29: India vs Timor Leste (14:30 IST) July 2: India vs Iraq (14:30 IST) July 5: Thailand vs India (18:00 IST) India's 23-member final squad for the AFC Women's Asian Cup Australia 2026 Qualifiers- Goalkeepers: Elangbam Panthoi Chanu, Moirangthem Monalisha Devi, Payal Basude.
