Dulquer Salmaan's Fans Are Now Celebrating His Exit From Thug Life, Here's Why
Last Updated: Dulquer Salmaan's fans are flooding social media platforms by praising his decision to reject Kamal Haasan starrer Thug Life. Kamal Haasan's Thug Life has been bringing waves at the box office right from its opening day. Mani Ratnam's stylish direction alongside an ensemble cast featuring Haasan, Silambarasan, Trisha Krishnan, Abhirami, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Ashok Selvan, Joju George, Nassar, Ali Fazal, Rohit Saraf and Baburaj in key roles, has been liked by many. Contrary to this, the film has also been garnering mixed-to-negative reviews from movie buffs and critics for its nearly disappointing script. But did you know Dulquer Salmaan was the initial choice for the gangster action drama, and he rejected it? Dulquer Salmaan was the first choice for casting in the Tamil movie Thug Life, produced by Raaj Kamal Films International, Madras Talkies and Red Giant Movies. However, he declined the offer due to reasons best known to the actor. Post the movie's trailer release, social media users criticised Salmaan's choice of opting out of Thug Life, only to realise months after that it was one of his 'greatest decisions'. Here's Why — After Thug Life's disappointing reactions, social media users flooded the platforms, complimenting Salmaan for his decision to exit the project, highlighting his praise-worthy script selection skills. One of his ardent fans wrote, 'After the trailer, everyone trolled him for his decision. Now after watching the movie, everyone is celebrating his decision." After the trailer everyone trolled him from his decision now after watching the movie everyone is celebrating his decision #ThugLife #DQ #DulquerSalmaan — MiGr@De (@am_Migrade) June 5, 2025 Another user said, 'Turning down the role in Thug Life was one of the GREATEST decisions Dulquer Salmaan ever made!" If Script Selection is an Art Dulquer Salmaan is Picasso on it ..🐐🔥 — I'm So Wasted 😉 (@BloodyTweetz) June 5, 2025 Dulquer Salmaan was offered the role of Amar in the multi-starrer project – a part which then eventually passed on to Silambarasan, known for his performance in the 2010 Tamil film Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa, co-starring Trisha Krishnan, Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Naga Chaitanya. The Sita Ramam actor was officially cast in the film along with Ravi Mohan and Gautham Karthik. As per reports, all three of them opted out of Thug Life in March last year apparently due to scheduling issues and production delays. But then, social media users believed that Salmaan lost the chance to work with great icons of the film industry, including Kamal Haasan, Nassar and Mani Ratnam. Things became more clear after the movie's release when Thug Life, co-written by the director and the lead actor, wasn't able to strike a chord with many viewers, who expected the movie to be a powerful cinematic experience. Talking about Salmaan's work front, he has a number of films in his pipeline, including I'm Game, Aakasam Lo Oka Tara and Kaantha, as well as a cameo in Kalyani Priyadarshan and Naslen's upcoming projects, produced by the Kurup star himself. Thug Life Box Office: Kamal Haasan's Film Mints Rs 23 Crore In Two Days, Housefull 5 Equals It On Opening Day Alone
New Delhi: After opening to a lukewarm response, Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam's Thug Life witnessed a further drop in collections on its second day. The film has been hit hard by the controversy surrounding Kamal's recent comments on the Kannada language, which led to the film's release being stalled in Karnataka. The effects of the controversy continued into Day 2, pulling the film's earnings down further. What According to Sacnilk, Thug Life collected Rs 15.5 crore on its opening day. This is lower than the opening figures of Kamal's previous films like Vikram and Indian 2, as well as Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan: Part 2. On Friday, the film earned Rs 7.5 crore, a 55% drop, bringing its total domestic collection to Rs 23 crore over two days. The film also faced competition from the release of Housefull 5 on Friday. The Akshay Kumar-led comedy earned Rs 23 crore on its opening day, the same amount Thug Life collected over two days. Background While Thug Life was projected as a pan-India film, it struggled in the Hindi belt, earning only Rs 65 lakh on Day 1 and dropping to Rs 25-35 lakh on Day 2. On Friday, its Hindi occupancy was just 6.48%. Even in the Tamil market - the film's primary base - Thug Life did not fare well. It recorded a 31.41% occupancy rate on Friday. In comparison, Kamal's Vikram had collected Rs 60 crore in two days, and Indian 2 had made Rs 44 crore despite mixed reviews. When compared to Mani Ratnam's past films, Thug Life lags far behind. Ponniyin Selvan: Part 2 had collected Rs 50.2 crore in its first two days, while Part 1 earned Rs 65.35 crore in the same period. Despite the slow start, the film still has a chance to improve its numbers over the weekend. The ensemble cast includes Trisha, Silambarasan, Joju George, Ashok Selvan, Nasser, and Abhirami, with music composed by AR Rahman.

Thug Life Box Office Day 2: Kamal Haasan's Film Witnesses Drop, Earns Rs 23 Crore
Last Updated: Thug Life, the Mani Ratnam-Kamal Haasan film, struggles at the box office with a 55% drop on Day 2, earning Rs 23 crore in two days. Looks like Thug Life is having a bit of a bumpy ride at the box office! The much-awaited reunion between Mani Ratnam and Kamal Haasan, 37 years in the making, had fans excited. But sadly, the film hasn't quite lived up to the massive hype yet. Thug Life is facing a tough battle at the box office, especially after the sharp dip it took on its second day. After a decent start on Day 1, the action-packed drama hit a speed bump on Friday, Day 2 of its release. Collections took a noticeable dip, with the film bringing in around Rs 23 crore. As per industry tracker Sacnilk, the film collected Rs 7.50 crore across all languages on Friday, marking a steep 55 per cent drop from its Day 1 earnings of Rs 15.50 crore. With this, the film's total collection in India over two days stands at Rs 23 crore. What's adding to the pressure is the release of Housefull 5. Akshay Kumar's latest comedy dropped on the same day and matched Thug Life's two-day total, Rs 23 crore, in just one day. The clash proved especially damaging in the Hindi belt, where Thug Life was promoted heavily as a pan-India film. Unfortunately, it opened to a disappointing Rs 65 lakh in Hindi markets, and early estimates suggest that Friday's Hindi collection may be as low as Rs 25–30 lakh. With such numbers, trade analysts believe the film may find it difficult to even cross Rs 5 crore in Hindi during its theatrical run. But it's not just the Hindi version that's struggling as Thug Life isn't exactly lighting up the box office in Tamil either. The film's Rs 23 crore two-day total falls way short when compared to Kamal Haasan's previous hits. Remember Vikram? That Lokesh Kanagaraj blockbuster stormed into theatres in 2022 and raked in a massive Rs 60 crore in just two days. Even Indian 2, which didn't really impress critics or audiences last year, still managed a healthier Rs 44 crore over the same period. So yeah, Thug Life has some serious catching up to do. And to make things worse, the film didn't release in Karnataka at all, reportedly due to backlash over Kamal Haasan's controversial remark about the Kannada language. That definitely didn't help its numbers. Thug Life stars a fantastic ensemble including Trisha, Silambarasan, Joju George, Ashok Selvan, Nasser, Abhirami, and more. The music is composed by the legendary AR Rahman, with stunning visuals captured by cinematographer Ravi K Chandran. The movie's editing is handled by A Sreekar Prasad. First Published:
