Fan dies after falling from the stands at the Nations League final - as UEFA release statement following tragedy

Daily Mail2 days ago

A fan tragically died after falling from the stands while attending the Nations League final between Portugal and Spain in Munich on Sunday night.
The male supporter from Bavaria's Garmisch-Partenkirchen district fell from the middle tier into the lower tier of the stadium and landed on a staircase in the media area.
He received immediate medical attention but succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
UEFA released a statement shortly after the horrifying incident as the governing body sent its condolences to the man's family.
The statement read: 'Despite the best efforts of the medical team, the person sadly passed away at 00:06. Our thoughts are with their loved ones at this difficult time.'
Munich police have launched an investigation, but revealed that there is currently 'no evidence to suggest foul play.'
The fan's death marred what had been a thrilling contest that went all the way to penalties.
Portugal and Spain played out a 2-2 draw and could not be separated over 120 minutes.
It was Portugal who eventually prevailed 5-3 on penalties, with Alvaro Morata seeing his spot-kick saved by Diogo Costa.
Portugal became the first two-time Nations League winners after also triumphing in the tournament back in 2019, and Cristiano Ronaldo burst into tears when Ruben Neves fired home the winning penalty.
But attention then turned to the fatality in the stands, with Portugal boss Roberto Martinez describing the supporter's passing as 'extremely sad news'.
Spain's manager Luis de la Fuente added: 'I want to show my deepest condolences because a fan has died. It reminds us of what is important in life.'

The Xiaomi SU7 Ultra is now the Nurburgring's fastest electric production car

The Xiaomi SU7 Ultra is now the Nurburgring's fastest electric production car Yup, the Rimac Nevera has been bumped Skip 1 photos in the image carousel and continue reading Turn on Javascript to see all the available pictures. 7 minutes 15 seconds Europe, take note: the 'Ring record holder for electric production cars is now the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra, having lapped the Green Hell in 7m 04.95s. Woah. That's a three-tenth improvement on the previous record set by the Rimac Nevera, and also swats away the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT by 2.5s. Ooft. Advertisement - Page continues below Xiaomi foreshadowed this strong showing last year, when it sent a stripped-out, prototype SU7 Ultra around the track. It monstered it, clocking a best lap of 6m 46.87s. That car was nowhere close to production spec, obviously, but its time was still three seconds quicker than a Porsche 911 GT3 RS. The SU7 Ultra's internals are… predictably strong. It's a trio of electric motors that combine to produce 1,527bhp, and enough torque to best Thanos in a tug of war. 0-62mph is covered in just 1.97s, and the hyper saloon won't call it quits until it sees 217mph. But that's not all: the Ultra also gets Pirelli P Zero tyres and stoppers from AP Racing. Combined with the 500kg weight deficit to the standard car (courtesy of lots of carbon), and a new aero kit that generates over 2.1 tonnes of downforce at peak speeds, the SU7 Ultra lives up to the second half of its name and then some. Oh, and Xiaomi says it pinched the record off the Nevera on its very first attempt. No wonder it saw fit to give the car a literal bold badge earlier this year... Arsenal star David Raya dresses as an air stewardess and serves passengers for his Las Vegas stag do after proposing to his model fiancee last year

Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya let his hair down for his stag do by dressing as an air stewardess and serving passengers on a flight to Las Vegas. Raya proposed to his model fiancee Tatiana Trouboul in October, but has had to wait until the end of the season for his bachelor party. With the campaign now over following Spain's Nations League final defeat by Portugal on Sunday, Raya is free to celebrate with his friends, and they pulled out all the stops as they headed Stateside. The 29-year-old was happy to wear an air stewardess outfit and he was pictured with a beaming smile as he handed over cookies to passengers during their flight to Vegas. Raya was joined by his brother Oscar and Spanish comedian Tomas Garcia Serrano. Several LaLiga footballers also made the trip, including Getafe's Diego Rico Salguero as well as Rayo Vallecano pair Adri Embarba and Unai Lopez. The group appeared in good spirits as they posed for a photo once they touched down in Vegas, with Raya also sharing photos from the famous Sin City strip. Snaps were also posted online of Raya posing in a swimming pool alongside his friends. Bright sunshine greeted Raya and Co as the Arsenal star kicked back and relaxed after a long, hard season. Raya and Trouboul's wedding date is currently unknown. The couple have been together since 2021, but did not go public with their relationship until the following year. Trouboul hails from Barcelona, but now lives in London with Raya, having moved her life across to the UK to support the Arsenal shot-stopper. Raya got down on one knee last year at a candlelit dinner, and subsequently posted photos of the evening shortly before Arsenal faced Bournemouth in the Premier League. The Gunners went on to lose that match 2-0, but Raya enjoyed another strong season at Arsenal as he finished as the Premier League Golden Glove winner alongside Nottingham Forest's Matz Sels. Raya now has some time off to enjoy his stag do and spend more time with Trouboul ahead of returning to pre-season training with Arsenal next month. He could face increased pressure for his place next season, with Arsenal set to bring in Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea. However, he is still likely to remain Mikel Arteta's No 1 for now after making that spot his own over the last two seasons.
