Vehicle plunges off third-floor parking deck in Old Klang Road; car wash worker seriously hurt
KUALA LUMPUR, June 16 — A car wash worker was seriously injured after the vehicle he was driving crashed through a wall and plunged from the third floor of a service apartment parking area at Jalan Klang Lama yesterday evening.
Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) chief ACP Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the incident, which occurred at 5.38pm, involved a Toyota Camry driven by a 23-year-old Afghan man.
Initial investigations revealed the worker lost control of the vehicle while attempting to park it after washing. He is believed to have accidentally pressed the accelerator, causing the car to smash through the wall and fall to the ground, he said when contacted by Bernama.
The car landed on two other vehicles — a Proton Iriz and a Perodua Myvi, parked at the ground level of the building. Fortunately, no one was inside those vehicles at the time.
The victim sustained serious injuries and was taken to the red zone of Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) for emergency treatment.
The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. — Bernama

PUTRAJAYA, June 16 — The Federal Court today upheld the 18-year prison sentence of a former lorry driver convicted of culpable homicide not amounting to murder in the death of an Indian national in 2016. A three-member bench consisting of Justices Datuk Zabariah Mohd Yusof, Datuk Nordin Hassan and Datuk Vazeer Alam Mydin Meera unanimously dismissed R. Kamaraj's final appeal against his conviction and sentence. 'We do not find any reason to disturb the findings of the courts below, both in terms of the conviction and sentence,' said Justice Zabariah, affirming the Court of Appeal's decision, which upheld the Seremban High Court's ruling. Kamaraj, 35, was found guilty by the High Court for causing the death of M. Selvam, 39, in a school compound in Senawang, Negeri Sembilan, at 8pm on November 27, 2016. He had initially been charged with two others – S. Kumaravelan and P. Tanabalan – for murder. Tanabalan, 42, passed away before the trial started. On December 29, 2021, the High Court convicted both Kamaraj and Kumaravelan, 31, for culpable homicide not amounting to murder. Kamaraj was sentenced to 18 years' imprisonment, while Kumaravelan received a 13-year jail term. Kamaraj appealed to the Court of Appeal, but his appeal was dismissed on April 29, last year. He then brought his case to the Federal Court. Kumaravelan, meanwhile, withdrew his appeal at the Court of Appeal. During the trial, a florist testified that Selvam, her employee, was taken by three men, including the appellant, from her stall following a dispute involving money she had entrusted to Selvam. The woman told the court that Kamaraj became enraged when Selvam admitted to spending part of the money and requested more time to repay it. She testified she had been in a relationship with the appellant (Kamaraj) at that time and had saved the money for their intended marriage. Selvam was subsequently assaulted and was hospitalised. MACC to question Tan Sri again Thursday over sukuk fund probe
KUALA LUMPUR, June 16 — The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is scheduled to resume recording a statement this Thursday from an individual with the title Tan Sri, as part of investigations into the alleged misappropriation of sukuk funds for a highway construction project in the Klang Valley. Its Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki, when contacted, confirmed that the statement will be recorded at the individual's residence in the federal capital at 9am. On June 11, the MACC recorded an initial statement from the individual over a six-hour period, which was temporarily halted due to health reasons. Earlier, media reports stated that the MACC had seized various assets, including handbags, jewellery, luxury vehicles, watches, cash and high-end properties, collectively estimated at RM32 million, believed to belong to a highway concessionaire bearing the Tan Sri title. — Bernama

Drug offences top cause as PDRM dismisses 59 personnel in first five months of 2025
MARAN, June 16 — A total of 59 personnel have been dismissed from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) in the first five months this year following disciplinary action, most of them due to drug-related offences. Bukit Aman's Integrity and Standard Compliance Department (JIPS) director Datuk Seri Azri Ahmad said other cases involved integrity violations, criminal offences, corruption, and syariah-related misconduct. 'The statistics include offences that were either investigated or committed prior to 2025. Additionally, between January and May, 671 personnel have been interdicted, while 146 others were suspended from duty,' he said when opening the new Maran Police District (IPD) headquarters here today. Also present were Pahang Police chief Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman and Maran Police District chief Supt Wong Kim Wai. In his speech, Azri said that JIPS had also received 2,637 complaints and reports concerning police conduct during the same period, reflecting the public's continued trust in the system. 'I want to thank the public for their valuable cooperation. Based on these statistics, the PDRM assures the public that any officer found guilty of wrongdoing, be it misconduct or criminal activity, will face firm disciplinary action without compromise,' he stressed. As he prepares to retire on June 26 after 37 years of service, Azri also shared that the newly launched Aduan JIPS mobile app, introduced on June 4, has already received over 23 complaints. He also assured whistleblowers that their identities are fully protected. Meanwhile, Yahaya paid tribute to Azri's dedication and professionalism throughout his career, thanking him for his unwavering commitment to integrity and law enforcement. Yahaya also noted that Maran IPD currently oversees six police stations, namely Maran, Sri Jaya, Chenor, Pekan Awah, Bandar Jengka, and Sungai Jerik, supported by a total of 335 personnel and administrative staff.
