Kukke temple to introduce free breakfast for devotees
Mangaluru: Kukke Sri Subrahmanya Temple, one of the most revered pilgrimage centres in the country, serves meals to over 10,000 devotees daily. With footfalls crossing 20,000 during holidays and festivals, the temple has now decided to introduce free breakfast for devotees.

Temple executive officer Aravinda Ayyappa Suthagundi said that the temple will start serving breakfast to all devotees after May 30. "The temple decided to serve breakfast after getting approval from the muzrai department. The temple serves anna prasadam regularly to all devotees. However, many devotees, who arrive in the early morning, especially to offer 'Ashlesha Bali' puja, return without having anna prasadam served in the afternoon.
Hence, a decision was made to start serving breakfast as prasadam for devotees who arrive in the morning," he said.
Breakfast will be served to devotees between 8 am and 10 am every day. All devotees will be served traditional dishes such as 'uppittu', 'avalakki' (beaten rice), or 'padengi' (green gram) for breakfast. These items will be offered alternately on a rotating schedule.
The officer said that a decision in this regard was made about six months ago.
"When the plan was discussed with muzrai minister Ramalinga Reddy and the endowment commissioner, they agreed to implement it. Further, the temple committee also offered support to go ahead with the plan," he said.
Kukke temple, located around 100km from Mangaluru, is a renowned shrine dedicated to the Serpent God in South India. Thousands of devotees, including celebrities from various parts of the nation, visit the shrine to fulfil their vows.

Last year, the temple took steps to enhance the anna prasadam for its numerous devotees, by introducing a variety of payasams served alongside the main meal on a rotational basis. Further, the management committee of the temple also included a greater assortment of vegetables in the curries prepared for the anna prasadam.

In a bid to boost spiritual tourism within the city, the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has announced the launch of a new package tour, 'Divya Darshana'.
