Charlton Athletic boss Nathan Jones insists he meant no disrespect League One promotion rivals Wrexham, after he appeared to brand the north Wales club a 'circus'.
Jones came under fire for comments made in the wake of his side's impressive 4-0 win over Wycombe Wanderers earlier this week, a win that leaves them four points behind the Dragons, who currently occupy the second automatic promotion spot ahead of a crunch meeting between the two sides this weekend.

However, the 51-year-old claims he had been 'misquoted', adding he was merely referencing the attention Wrexham receives.

'What I meant was, what follows Wrexham around is a lot of pomp, a lot of ceremony, a lot of cameras, a lot of coverage, a lot of scrutiny,' Jones said.
'At times, that can be a distraction, and I don't want it to be for our team, so that's what I meant with that."
Since a high-profile takeover from Hollywood duo Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, and of course the release of hit documentary series Welcome To Wrexham, the Welsh side's rise through the EFL has received international attention well beyond many of their rivals.

Nevertheless, many Wrexham fans took offence when Jones said, 'It's a bumper game, we have to go to the circus and see what we can get,' about the upcoming fixture between the two sides.
Both Reynolds and McElhenney are expected to be in attendance at the Racecourse for Saturday's game. Jones has said the pair have done a 'magnificent job,' since taking over ownership.

'I didn't mean the club or the players or anything, because they're a very well run, excellent club. The owners have done a fantastic job not only galvanising the club and taking the club forward but actually taking the community, which needed it as well,' he said.
The original comments added fire to a fixture which already has plenty riding on it.
With two matches to play The Red Dragons find themselves in second place, two points ahead of Wycombe Wanderers. Should the Chairboys drop points at Leyton Orient in Saturday's early kick-off, Wrexham could seal a third consecutive promotion with a win over the Addicks.

He's the third Australian to be added to Jimmy Thelin's ranks as he looks to build on his team that beat Celtic to this season's Scottish Cup. He impressed Down Under which earned him the English move, where he went on to score 13 goals in 31 appearances and lift the League One title. He's also netted six for the Australian national team in 11 matches. Pittodrie boss Thelin said of the signing: 'We were quite specific about the type of profile we had identified to play as a striker for Aberdeen and Kusini has a lot of the qualities we were after. 'He is tall, strong and quick, he will work hard for the team and lead the line. "He has also proven at both Portsmouth and with the Socceroos that he can score goals on a consistent basis. 'It is important for us to have different profiles of players who can bring specific strengths to our shape and how we want to play. "With European group stage football and a busy domestic schedule, he will play a vital role for us in what we hope will be a competitive squad.' And the forward has already sat down with the club to discuss the move, saying: 'It feels great to be an Aberdeen player and I can't wait to get started. 'I'm looking forward to playing here for several years. The manager and staff have all been very positive and their enthusiasm was one of the main reasons I chose to come here. Aberdeen fans react to historic Scottish Cup win 'I loved the project that was pitched to me. What the manager and coaches want to achieve and what they stand for. Where they think they can utilise me as a player to help the Club, so I was very excited. 'Every kid dreams of playing European football and playing for big Clubs like Aberdeen so I am very excited to play in those competitions and represent Aberdeen.' Two fellow Aussies are joining him for next season, the first being goalkeeper Nick Suman. He was signed from Cove Rangers as a replacement for Parkhead-bound Ross Doohan, who just received his first Scotland call up. The other is Western Sydney Wanderers winger Nicolas Milanovic who was secured as early as May 12. The final player to give his signature to Pittodrie already is young Schalke left-back Emmanuel Gyamfi, who said it is 'a dream to play in Europe'. 4 Jimmy Thelin has also signed up Emmanuel Gyamfi Credit: Getty Keep up to date with ALL the latest news and transfers at the Scottish Sun football page

Former Hibs player turns life around after drunken Edinburgh incident he won't forget

More info Footballer Victor Palsson was banned from every nightclub in Edinburgh when he was a Hibs player after a drunken incident, but the athlete has since turned his life around. The Icelander was caught urinating against a wall, which resulted in a blanket ban. But after quitting the booze, Palsson got his career back on track. The former Liverpool player has enjoyed a career which has taken him from New York to Holland, Sweden, Switzerland, Germany, Belgium - and now Plymouth. He spent a stint in the capital with the Hibees in 2011, which he says was a life-changing experience, reports the Sunday Mail. The 34-year-old said: 'It was a very long time ago. I was a young lost boy back then. 'Looking back, I was young and not really aware of the importance of life and being a professional footballer. I made a lot of mistakes, especially at Hibs. It started off OK but then it wasn't good. 'I didn't leave in a good way either, so I think my time there is remembered for the wrong things. There was a big incident, a six month ban from all the nightclubs. But as I said, I was lost. 'It helped me focus, 100 percent. A few years later I made some big decisions to sort out my life. I'm happy I did that. I gave up drinking. The time at Hibs played a part in that. 'I just couldn't handle my drinking. I gave it up and haven't had a drink for almost 11 years now. I had to focus and I've managed to make a decent career.' Palsson is now at Plymouth Argyle who were relegated from the English Championship last season. That was despite the efforts of Scottish striker Ryan Hardie, who bagged 12 goals for the Pilgrims. And Palsson insists he could play for Scotland. He said: 'Ryan is a really good player and I hope we can hold on to him. 'For two years, he's hit double figure goals in the Championship. He talks to us about Scotland. He's a great professional who wants to play for his country and I think he's done enough to get a chance - even in a friendly. 'Hopefully we'll see him play for Scotland in the future. Ryan is a great finisher and so quick. He's rapid.' Palsson, along with his Iceland team-mates, left Scotland looking punch drunk at Hampden on Friday night as they secured a 3-1 friendly win. Iceland fully deserved their shock win over Clarke's men at Hampden on Friday night - even if they were helped by mistakes from rookie keeper Ciaran Slicker. Palsson was delighted with the result and admits they took advantage of the goalie's fragility. He said: 'We played some great football in the first half and didn't give away many chances. We suffered a bit in the second half but overall it was a fair win. 'I try to put myself in the shoes of the young goalkeeper. He came on after two minutes and we could see with his first few kicks, he wasn't 100 percent. 'We just started pressing him and it gave us blood on the teeth. We heard the crowd boo at half-time so we just said, keep doing what we're doing. It was a good win for us.'
