The New Mexico Cattle Growers Association says the price of raising cattle has grown over the years, with the biggest hit against cattle growers being the rising price of feed and water for grass. Replacing members of the herd can also be pricey as the price of yearling steers has gone up.
[2] Lawmakers push for massage parlors to have more accountability and greater oversight – After seeing several cases of some New Mexico massage parlors promoting prostitution and human trafficking, some lawmakers believe a bill would address the issue. The massage therapy licensure bill would put massage therapy establishments under the state's regulation and licensing department. The bill is headed to the Senate judiciary committee.

[4] Carlsbad Caverns National Park adjusting operating hours – Carlsbad Caverns National Park will be adjusting their hours later this month, and keeping ranger-led tours closed for the time being. The park says they are adjusting their visitor center hours to 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Cave entry for self-guided tours will run from 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. each day. Changes o into effect on March 23.
[5] Conservationists worry Mexican gray wolves could be threatened program cuts – Conservationists are saying recent illegal killings and concerns over budget cuts could hinder their efforts to boost the wild population of Mexican gray wolves. Re-introduction of the species to the wild began in 1998 in New Mexico and Arizona. The latest numbers show that there are at least 286 wolves in the wild between both states. But, with threats such as conflict with livestock due to a reduction in prey, illegal killings, and potential budget cuts to recovery programs, the population is still at risk.

Evacuations prompted The blaze prompted several evacuations, including Shamong's Costello Preparatory Academy, a state-run community home for males with a history of substance abuse. Authorities also evacuated the Lower Forge campground in Washington Township, closed roads in Shamong and closed the part of South Jersey's Batona Trail to hikers. The service is expected to provide another update Saturday at around 2:30 p.m. local time. Wildfire burns near monument honoring Mexican aviator The Mines Spung Wildfire was burning near the Carranza Memorial in Tabernacle, New Jersey. The 12-foot stone monument honors Emilio Carranza Rodriguez, a Mexican aviator who died in a crash at the Pinelands site in 1928, the New Jersey State Park Service website states. The acclaimed captain from Coahuila, Mexico, became widely known in the summer of 1928 after an emergency landing in New Jersey during a flight from Mexico City to Washington, D.C. He later died during a thunderstorm while flying from New York City to Mexico, according to the New Jersey State Park Service. The site of the fatal crash is where the Carranza Memorial stands. Tropical Storm Dalila formed in the Eastern Pacific Ocean on Friday. The National Hurricane Center said that Tropical Storm Dalila reached 40 mph, officially designating it as a tropical storm. A tropical storm is a tropical cyclone that has maximum sustained winds of between 39 and 73 mph – a step above a tropical depression. Tropical Storm Dalila is currently 195 miles south of Zihuatanejo, Mexico and is currently being monitored by the NHC for further development. How Are Hurricanes Rated? The Saffir-simpson Hurricane Wind Scale Explained Tropical Storm Watches and Warnings have been issued for the southwestern coast of Mexico from just south of Puerto Vallarta to just west of Acapulco. Rainfall totals ranging from 2-4 inches, with localized amounts of up to 6 inches, are possible across portions of Mexican states such as Guerrero, Michoacan and Colima through this weekend. The system is also expected to generate life-threatening surf and rip current conditions for those same areas. The NHC is also watching a second area for potential tropical development in the Eastern Pacific due east of Four-E, off of southern Mexico and Central America. Norcross said this area to watch could possibly have implications for Acapulco. "Early projections show a potential storm track just offshore of Acapulco toward the end of next week, though the forecast is quite uncertain," Norcross noted. Tropical Depression Four-E formed on Friday morning in the Eastern Pacific after the National Hurricane Center designated the area Potential Tropical Cyclone Four-E on Thursday. A tropical depression is a tropical cyclone that has maximum sustained winds below 39 mph. Once a tropical depression forms, the National Hurricane Center gives it a number based on its order of formation in the hurricane season. This is the fourth tropical depression in the Eastern Pacific this season. The E in the name designates its location. Tropical Depression Four-E is expected to continue to strengthen and become Tropical Storm Dalila later Friday. How Are Hurricanes Rated? The Saffir-simpson Hurricane Wind Scale Explained Four-E has developed in an area that has seen a lot of tropical activity early this Eastern Pacific hurricane season. "There continues to be a pocket of atmosphere off the coast of Mexico that's quite conducive to tropical development," FOX Weather Hurricane Specialist Bryan Norcross said Friday morning. The first hurricane already developed with Barbara. The cyclone briefly reached Category 1 strength before dissipating over colder waters. Tropical Depression Four-E is currently several hundred miles south of Southern Mexico. According to the NHC, regardless of any further development, Four-E will produce increasing winds and high seas. Maximum sustained winds are currently around 35 mph.
