A major police operation is under way in Munich after a car was driven into pedestrians in the south German city, injuring 20 people.
At least two people are said to be "very seriously injured", according to local police.
Officials have not said whether the pedestrians were hit deliberately, but Munich Mayor Dieter Reiter said he was "deeply shocked" and that children were among those injured.
Police said on X they had "secured" the driver who did not pose any further threat. Other reports said the driver had been arrested after the incident, which officers said took place at around 10.30am (9.30am GMT).
In a statement, Munich's police said: "There is currently a major police operation in the area of Dachauer Street and Seidle Street.
"We are on site."
The area is close to Munich's central train station.
Pictures of a badly damaged cream-coloured Mini at the scene were published.
Sandra Demmelhuber, a journalist for local broadcaster, BR24, who was covering the event, posted a picture on X showing a damaged car surrounded by police and emergency crews.
She said: "There is a person lying on the street and a young man was taken away by the police. People were sitting on the ground, crying and shaking. Details are still unclear."
Those hurt were apparently taking part in strike-related action by the Verdi union, BR24 said.
The union, which represents workers in the service sector and is one of the biggest in Germany, said it did not have any information on the incident.
The Bavarian capital will see heavy security in the coming days for the Munich Security Conference which starts on Friday around 1.5km (1 mile) away.

Madeleine McCann suspect Christian Brueckner plans new life on 'billionaire island'

The 48-year-old convicted rapist and paedophile has reportedly already chosen a new home when he is freed from prison in September, having previously boasted that he plans to go into hiding. Madeleine McCann prime suspect Christian Brueckner has revealed plans to move to Germany's 'billionaire playground island' when he is released from jail. The 48-year-old convicted rapist and paedophile has reportedly already chosen a new home when he is freed from prison in September, having previously boasted that he plans to go into hiding. ‌ As the Mirror reports, his lawyer Friedrich Fuelsher has claimed Brueckner plans to stay in Germany after his released with his eyes et on the North Sea island of Sylt. ‌ 'According to my information, he plans to settle in Schleswig-Holstein,' Fuelscher told Bild. And Brueckner has a very specific location in mind - the exclusive North Sea island of Sylt. 'Sylt has appealed to him in the past,' Fuelscher added. Brueckner has history with the controversial island when he previously ran a cannabis dealing operation there and was handed a suspended sentence in 2011. He is due to complete his current seven-year rape sentence in Sehnde prison on September 17. His legal team thought he would have to stay behind bars for a further five months because he owed an outstanding €1,400 fine. But German tabloid Bild claims an anonymous female donor has now paid the fine on Brückner's behalf — clearing the final obstacle to his release. Despite a lengthy police investigation, detectives appear to be no closer to charging him over Madeleine's disappearance. He was cleared last October of a string of sex crimes he was accused of carrying out in Portugal. ‌ Prosecutors are awaiting the outcome of an appeal against those verdicts lodged in Germany's Federal Court of Justice. Brueckner denies any involvement in Madeleine's disappearance. German search teams spent three days hunting for evidence in Portugal earlier this month. Brueckner was living in a ramshackle farmhouse on the edge of Praia da Luz when Madeleine vanished from the holiday resort in May 2007. ‌ Sylt is Germany's northernmost island, nestled in the North Sea just off Schleswig‑Holstein. It has been connected to the mainland by the Hindenburgdamm causeway since 1927. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! From the 1960s, Sylt reinvented itself into a jet‑set playground for rich movers and shakers, and it is still this way today. Affluent entrepreneurs, VIPs, celebrities, and models flock here for gourmet dining, designer boutiques, luxury spas, and even the famed 'Whisky Mile' in Kampen. It is also known for its dramatic sand dunes and vast 40 km beaches. ‌ In recent years, however, the island has also become the stage for disturbing far‑right incidents. A shocking video emerged showing patrons in a Sylt nightclub chanting a Nazi slogan - 'Germany for the Germans – foreigners out' - prompting a nationwide outrage. The scandal rocked Germany because this time, instead of far-right thugs and skinheads it was wealthy 'yuppies' orchestrating it. Left‑wing protest groups pitched protest camps on the island against what they claimed was elite gentrification and far‑right infiltration.

Rangers ripped apart over flimsy John Brown defence as 49ers fairytale exposed on Hotline

Rangers have vowed to back John Brown to the hilt after the SFA hit the Ibrox club with a notice of complaint for Bomber's corruption ref rant. But rival fans hit back on the Hotline and insist the Light Blues deserve to be in hot water for the comment. Brown blasted the decision to chalk off a ghost goal at Easter Road at 'corrupt' and some callers reckon the legend is lucky not to end up in court never mind getting a Hampden rap. Eddie Easson, Ballingry, said: 'The hard done by are at it again with Bomber Brown statement. Just to refresh their memories when Brendan Rodgers spoke up about a certain referee he was hauled before the beaks within days.' John J. Scott, Port Glasgow, said: 'Congratulations to Rangers for a marvellous piece of misdirection regarding Brown's comments. ' Rangers saying the goal should have stood is correct. Their claim that it was a bad decision was also correct. 'Brown did not make that claim – he said it was a corrupt decision and that makes it defamation. This is why his employer is being charged for his behaviour while working for them. Also saying other people have done worse things is not a good defence.' But Scott Gowers, Edinburgh, said: 'Brown – despite freedom of speech laws – says that this was corrupt and he gets charged by the SFA. I am a fan of honest fair play and am saying the SFA are clearly corrupt by charging Brown for a very honest assessment regarding a clearly good goal that was disallowed.' Elsewhere, Rangers fans are excited about their American revolution. But Glen Mitchell emailed: 'When will the followers of the Ibrox Club get real on this 49ers money fantasy? There is no 49ers money, it was a syndicate outwith the 49ers that took them over. 'The 49ers themselves have little interest in a failing, minor soccer club based in Scotland. Their whole identity as a global franchise shares nothing with the Ibrox Club's identity. It's not rocket science to find all this out.' Oh well. Meanwhile Celtic's Nicolas Kuhn is attracting interest. And Stephen Mulhern, Dumbarton, said: 'If RB Leipzig are ready to offer £15m for Kuhn, Celtic should bite their hand off. It seemed to me his mind was elsewhere towards the latter part of the season. 'And if Celtic can succeed in bringing in a Swedish international in Benjamin Nygren, I can't remember a player from that country being a failure at Celtic. I certainly remember the best ever, whose name is part of Celtic history.' Craig Campbell, Tollcross, said: 'Celtic should cash in on Kuhn. He spent the second half of the season looking like he was in a huff. He is worth a lot more than £15m though.' Finally, the FIFA Cup World Cup is off to a flier with German big guns Bayern Munich involved in a 10 goal thriller with plucky amateurs Auckland City. It was just a shame the Bavarians scored all 10 of them… Gary Stevenson, Newtonhill, said: 'With Auckland City taking part in the Club World Cup , I have to question the qualifying standard. Next year we will have Slovan Bratislava and Dinamo Zagreb involved.' Ah, we see what he did there.
