I Went To The "Mystery Scoop" Ice Cream Shop That People Can't Stop Talking About, And For $10 A Scoop, I Was Expecting...Not This
At one viral New York City ice cream shop, scoops are served with a big surprise.
Surprise Scoop is the "world's first flavor roulette ice cream shop" and has been blowing up on social media because it only has one item on its menu — "surprise" ice cream. Flavors are randomly selected and there's no option for choosing the flavor you want.
Online, reactions to various taste-test and review videos have been mixed overall. Comments on TikToks run the gamut from those who can't believe the price to those who just can't imagine leaving their ice cream choice up to chance.
Oh, and the other thing I should mention: Apparently, you won't see employees in the shop. The ice cream is served out of an anonymous, "mystery" window.
So many questions immediately came to mind, so as an ice cream lover, I felt it was my journalistic duty to go to the shop and see what it was all about. Here was my experience from beginning to end:
I arrived at the shop at 2 p.m. on a Saturday, and lo and behold, it looked completely empty.
As you can see from the picture, the storefront has a bright purple awning with tiny white letters that spell out the shop's name and address. From far away, you can't even tell that this is an ice cream shop.
Right in front of the entrance, there was a sign that laid down the rules.
Yep, it looks like they changed two policies because they were covered up by tape on the sign:
• Our flavors change every day
• We are CASHLESS; credit/debit cards only
Just like I saw on social media, the shop was pretty small and completely empty. On one wall, there were two touch screens to order from and a giant mirror on the other.
In the back of the room, there was a pickup window and an empty screen.
When I ordered on the screen, these directions appeared:
Basically, I needed to tap the screen, input my allergies, pay, watch for my order number to appear on the pickup screen, and then head to the pickup window to grab the ice cream.
Per the screen, I learned the ice cream was "handmade," which made me more interested in what kinds of flavors they were dishing out. For those with food allergies, there was also an option to exclude whipped cream or fruit and disclose if you are gluten-free.
I also had to acknowledge a "consent" box that confirmed I couldn't ask for a refund or an exchange.
Since I wanted to try more than one flavor, I ordered two scoops, which came out to a whopping $20.53. (Broken down, that's $9.18 per scoop, plus $2.17 for tax.)
Immediately after placing my order, my name appeared on the screen with an estimation that my ice cream would be ready in four minutes.
I heard noises behind the wall, so there was definitely at least one person back there making the orders. After four minutes, the sliding door of the pickup window opened and a hand placed two different scoops on the counter.
In true, mysterious fashion, the person behind the sliding door was completely concealed so you couldn't see anything except for their hand placing the ice cream on the counter.
Oh, and may I add, there's another level of mystery to this shop. Even after you receive your ice cream, you still might not know which flavor you got. Right next to the pickup window, there was a sign that encouraged customers to post their guesses of their flavors on social media and if they guessed correctly, the shop would tell them if they were right.
Now, I was really curious about what this ice cream would taste like. I called up a friend to join me in the taste-testing process, and here's what we thought.
Both scoops were pretty standard in size, comparable to single scoops at Ben & Jerry's or Van Leeuwen.
If I had to guess what flavor this was, I'd say it was Hot Cocoa.
This scoop tasted exactly like the ice cream version of hot chocolate, so I wasn't complaining. It was really just...okay. Not great, not terrible. It was fine.
I was also a little surprised about the quality of the ice cream. Since it was homemade, I was expecting a smooth, creamy texture, but this had the consistency of a generic, grocery-store ice cream brand. It was nothing to write home about, which was pretty disappointing.
I was hoping the other flavor would bring me better luck. At first glance, I thought this pink scoop with whipped cream, sprinkles, and a maraschino cherry had to be strawberry-flavored. Boy, was I wrong.
To be honest, I still have no idea what flavor of ice cream this was. It definitely didn't taste like strawberry, and it was pretty bland, with a *hint* of something I couldn't place my finger on. I was pretty thrown off too, because it also tasted a little savory. Safe to say, I did not like this one at all.
I was so curious about what flavor the pink scoop could have been, and it turns out the shop has some pretty wacky flavors. After looking at Google reviews, several people guessed they got a Hot Cheeto-flavored scoop.
I guess we'll never know for sure if I got a Hot Cheeto-flavored scoop, but maybe that's for the better.
If you're looking for a fun, quirky thing to do in a big group, this might just be the perfect place for you. Otherwise, save your $10 and go to the gelato place down the street.

TikTok Has Made It Possible for This Single Dad to Do Everything — Except Date (Exclusive)
Dylan Mondo is a full-time single dad to four children and shares looks into his parenting journey on his TikTok account, @EverythingDad Social media has allowed Mondo to provide for his family for years, as he started by running an Instagram page dedicated to couponing and finding bargain deals Though his platform has allowed him to do so much for his kids, it's hindered one area entirely: datingOne single dad has been trying to do it all. Dylan Mondo, known online as @EverythingDad, is a full-time single dad to four kids, ages 13, 12, 10 and 6. His everyday content isn't flashy or elaborately edited day-in-the-life videos, but instead, he shares glimpses of the mundanity that comes with running a household as a single father. Users will recognize videos of him making dinner for his four kids, doing his youngest daughters' hair for school, tidying up after a busy day or just showing what few quiet moments he can find in between the chaos. Before he started his TikTok account, Mondo, 31, ran an Instagram account dedicated to couponing. While he was still with his kids' mother, he says the family operated on a single income, and he dreamed of being able to have stockpiles of necessities like some of the best couponers. 'Things were tough, and I was always looking for ways to save money,' he says. 'I've always been a provider for my family. I've always done everything. I've always taken care of everyone. And so I started the coupon dad because I fell into all these moms couponing, and I was like, okay, all these ladies are doing this. I can do this too.' As Mondo mastered couponing, he started an Instagram account to share his thrifty tips with other parents, hoping to save some money, posting his exact hacks for free. 'I just wanted to help people. I wasn't making any money, and everyone was expecting me to post what deals to get, where to go, what to do,' he explains. 'And then my posts started going viral, so I gained like 200,000 followers over a year… It just became this spot for parents to come and shop for their house and shop for their kids, because I'm a bargain shopper.' That Instagram account, now called The Saving Dad, currently sits at more than 315,000 followers, and the affiliate marketing income through that account allowed him to quit his corporate job of 10 years while still providing for his kids. He eventually began expanding his brand. He began filming TikToks during his separation from the mother of his children, which he tells PEOPLE was 'the hardest time of my life.' 'I just thought one day I was like, man, this is hard. This is hard work. It's a lot of work doing this by yourself. There's got to be people that are struggling just like me,' Mondo says. 'I was like, why don't I just set up the camera and just start filming myself? So basically I turned one of the hardest times in my life to, I don't know, I guess you could say the best times.' That account now has 2.9 million followers. A platform that often comes with privacy concerns — especially for parenting creators — but Mondo has developed a balance in his filming schedule, only taking the camera with him for small snippets of his day. 'I used it as a form of therapy. I was being creative. I just started filming and editing the regular things that I do as a dad, and it really resonated with people and it kind of kept me going,' he says. 'I literally just picked up the camera and started recording. There was nothing to it. I didn't plan to get anything out of it.' Never miss a story — sign up for to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from celebrity news to compelling human interest stories. For Mondo, he says the purpose of his larger platform is to inspire others who are parenting alone, and he's received plenty of comments and messages from other fathers who have resonated with his content. 'I'll get comments where dads are like, 'You make me want to be a better dad,' or 'You make me want to be more present.' Or like, 'I'm learning how to do my daughter's hair because of you,' ' Mondo says. 'That's the reason why I do what I do… There are some people who don't think that it's possible or don't think it's realistic or they can't do this. But I mean, in my world, this is what I can do. And if I can do it, I think anyone is capable of doing it. We all live in the same 24 hours.' 'You don't see very many men doing social media or doing what we do,' he continues. 'So I think it's refreshing for people to see dads being so involved, especially online. I mean, I'm sure there's tons of dads out there who are involved, but on social media, you don't see too much of it.' With an audience that's primarily women, Mondo says he's received largely positive comments on his content. But he acknowledges it's a double standard within the influencer sphere, as so many single moms aren't given the same grace. "I feel like the dad creators, it's so different [for them]. I mean, we all do the same thing... even the way that the people look at us, we're just doing things that the moms are doing too, yet sometimes I feel like the dads are praised a little more," he says. Mondo's four children occasionally make appearances in his slice-of-life content, though he emphasizes that it's not kid-centric; it's dad-centric. His videos showcasing the hairstyles he'll recreate on his youngest daughters have been some of his most popular on TikTok, but he says he never forces his kids to participate in his videos. 'My younger two are always like, 'Can you do my hair?' Or 'Can we make a video?'... And then my older two are like, 'Okay, dad, [my friends] found out who you are,' he laughs while noting that they even look out for his numbers, with his son reminding him to post if it's been a minute since his last video. 'They're all proud of me. They love me. They know I'm a good dad, and they know I like to do this for fun, and they support me. They love it.' As Mondo's content has become increasingly popular, he's also acutely aware of the attention it puts on him and his personal life. Though he's a self-described 'super private' person, he admits that some women online have seen his TikTok page as his 'dating profile.' 'They'll message me, and they'll try to talk to me and get to know me and stuff. But like I said, I'm not on social media for that purpose. I don't entertain that,' he says. 'And then I feel like whenever I do meet people, they already know who I am.' Dating as a single dad is already hard, but the added exposure of having a platform where he shares his life as a single father has made it 'kind of impossible' for him to seriously pursue a relationship. 'I'm really a single dad. I do everything. Everything. I've dated here and there, but it just doesn't work out,' he says. 'Kids come first, and I mean… when you're putting your kids first, I think dating as a single parent can be difficult.' Read the original article on People

Katy Perry And Orlando Bloom Tension In Relationship
No need to sugarcoat things: The release of Katy Perry's most recent album, last year's 143, great. Katy's seventh album was met with negative reviews (it's currently Metacritic's lowest-rated album in more than a decade) and, for the first time since her 2008 debut One of the Boys, failed to crack the top 5 of the Billboard 200. She also received a lot of criticism for working with Dr. Luke, who Kesha has famously accused of drugging and raping her. Dr. Luke has denied the allegations. You also probably know that Katy is currently engaged to actor Orlando Bloom. The couple share a child together, Daisy. Well, according to a new report from People, the negative press around143 was so rough that it allegedly affected Katy's relationship with Orlando. "Katy was deeply frustrated following the reception of her new album," a source tells the publication. "It made her very stressed. Orlando was understanding, but it did cause some tension." Now, if you've been online at all in the last month or so, you've probably seen people criticizing Katy's tour behind 143 as well. The TikToks were been so brutal that she felt the need to issue a statement about all the criticism. According to a second source, the negativity around the tour has allegedly also affected Katy and Orlando's current sitch. "She was also disappointed in some of the tour reviews," a second source tells People. "It's put stress on their relationship." We've reached out to Katy and Orlando's reps for further comment and will let you know if we hear back.
