Region 12 Bilingual Awards recognize excellence in teaching
WACO, Texas (FOX 44) — ESC Region 12 holds its Bilingual Awards for excellence in teaching both English and Spanish students.
A ceremony was held Monday for the teachers across Central Texas, acknowledging all the great things they have done for the students. Each district shined in their own way – ready for the future.
The ceremony highlighted the work of bilingual and ESL educators from around Region 12. Some of the award categories included Community Engagement, Certification Training, Paraprofessional Recognition, Bilingual/ESL Teachers of the Year, and Bilingual/ESL Leaders of the Year.
The teachers who received awards were grateful for the number of people who recognized their hard work and everything they do in their classroom. One parent shares that it can be difficult in a new district and facing a new environment.
'Some parents don't even know that the program is out there,' says Oscar Nicolás Peña Castellón. 'But if we know what the program is, even if they don't speak English, we help them out in the Spanish.'
Castellón said that it was an honor to get this award, as helping fellow parents is what he wants to do. Being with this district, he and his wife didn't always get the help they needed – so now they want to pass along the help to other parents to help them succeed.
