2025 Texans offseason roster profile: RB Dameon Pierce
The Houston Texans are officially in offseason mode and we are still weeks away from free agency and the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.
Over the next few weeks, Texans Wire will break down each player on the roster who is signed through the 2025 season and their potential moving forward.
We will recap their 2024 season, their contract status and what their status is for the coming offseason and 2025 season.
Let's continue to talk about the running back room with a recap of Year 3 for Dameon Pierce.
With the arrival of Pro Bowler Joe Mixon from Cincinnati, the days of Pierce as the Texans' top back were over. That doesn't mean his role wasn't essential as the change-of-pace No. 2 option.
When Mixon missed three games with an ankle injury, Pierce and Cam Akers served as the 1-2 option. Pierce was also a key component on special teams as the Texans' primary kickoff returner, where he averaged 25.6 yards per attempt.
In 11 games, Pierce rushed for 293 yards on 40 attempts. He scored a pair of long touchdowns against the New England Patriots in Week 6 and the Tennessee Titans in Week 18 while averaging 7.3 yards per attempt.
Entering the final year of his rookie deal, Pierce will earn $1.1 million as his base salary in 2025. The rest of his $203,000 salary will kick in on March 7.
He has a $1.3 million cap hit in 2025.
Outlook for 2025
Pierce will enter the offseason as the No. 2 back behind Mixon. He will continue in that role, provided he stays healthy, unless he either moves backward in his development or the Texans add another option in free agency or the NFL Draft come April.

WATCH: Texans QB C.J. Stroud returns to practice, throwing during minicamp
WATCH: Texans QB C.J. Stroud returns to practice, throwing during minicamp Houston Texans fans can exhale a sigh of relief following the start of Tuesday's mandatory minicamp at the Methodist Training Center. Third-year Pro Bowl quarterback C.J. Stroud threw passes for the first time in almost a month during the opening of Tuesday's minicamp practice. He connected on several completions to Pro Bowl wide receiver Nico Collins and rookie Jayden Higgins that caught the eye of reporters in practice. Here's a look at several throws during the early stages of team drills. Stroud was kept from throwing during the Texans' OTA practices over the last two weeks because he was dealing with 'general soreness' in his throwing shoulder, according to head coach DeMeco Ryans. Both Ryans and first-year offensive coordinator Nick Caley said that they weren't concerned with Stroud missing reps and he'd be ready to go ahead of training camp. Stroud is in a pivotal year for the Texans after leading the franchise to back-to-back division titles. With a pair of losses in the divisional round, Houston spent the offeseason trying to revamp the offense and put the franchise quarterback in a better position to succeed. While Stroud didn't throw during team drills, the fact that he was throwing at practice in general is a promising sign. Houston could elevate his reps on Wednesday's practice to close out minicamp with the media. The Texans open the regular season on the road against the Los Angeles Rams at SoFi Stadium on Sept. 7.

Look: New Texans RB Nick Chubb debuts at minicamp after signing one-year deal
Look: New Texans RB Nick Chubb debuts at minicamp after signing one-year deal Nick Chubb 🤝 CJ Stroud — Will Kunkel (@WillKunkelV) June 10, 2025 Nick Chubb is officially with the Houston Texans. The four-time Pro Bowl running back appeared for the start of mandatory minicamp on Tuesday morning after signing a one-year contract Monday afternoon worth up to $5 million. He will wear the No. 21 to begin his Texans career, though that could change after roster cutdowns. Here's a look at Cubb debuting in Houston for the start of drills during the Texans' open media session. The first 'carry' for Nick Chubb in a #Texans uniform — Cole Thompson (@MrColeThompson) June 10, 2025 First look at Nick Chubb on the Texans — Ari Alexander (@AriA1exander) June 10, 2025 The longtime Cleveland Browns running back joins a rushing attack headline by two-time Pro Bowler Joe Mixon, along with Dameon Pierce, Dare Ogunbowale and fourth-round draft pick Woody Marks. Chubb should be a change of pace back and compete for second-team reps with Pierce, who's entering a contract season. A 2018 second-round pick out of Georgia, Chubb ranks third all-time on the Browns' career rushing list (6,843 yards) after spending the first seven years of his career in Cleveland. Over the past two seasons, he's dealt with multiple lower-body injuries, limiting his playing time and consistency as a premier runner. Last season in eight games, Chubb ran for 332 yards and recorded career lows in yards per attempt (3.3) and percentage of carries that gained at least 10 yards (4.9%). Since 2023, he's only played in 10 games after suffering a season-ending knee injury in Week 2. The Texans will be back at practice Wednesday for another open media session.

Nick Chubb passes physical, signs one-year, $2.5 million contract with Texans
Veteran running back Nick Chubb officially has his new home in Houston. Chubb passed his physical and signed a one-year, $2.5 million contract with the Texans, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. Advertisement The deal gives Chubb the opportunity to earn another $2.5 million if he hits certain incentives. A 2018 second-round pick of the Browns, Chubb has played his entire career in Cleveland and was named to four consecutive Pro Bowls from 2019 to 2022. His career average of 5.1 yards per carry is among the best in NFL history. But in 2023 he suffered a severe knee injury in the second game of the season, he wasn't cleared to return until midway through the 2024 season, and wasn't the same player once he got back on the field. That's why it took him so long to sign, and why he had to sign a one-year prove-it deal. In Houston, Chubb joins a backfield that also includes starter Joe Mixon along with Dameon Pierce and rookie Woody Marks.
