2025 Texans offseason roster profile: RB Dameon Pierce

Yahoo18-02-2025

The Houston Texans are officially in offseason mode and we are still weeks away from free agency and the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.
Over the next few weeks, Texans Wire will break down each player on the roster who is signed through the 2025 season and their potential moving forward.
We will recap their 2024 season, their contract status and what their status is for the coming offseason and 2025 season.
Let's continue to talk about the running back room with a recap of Year 3 for Dameon Pierce.
With the arrival of Pro Bowler Joe Mixon from Cincinnati, the days of Pierce as the Texans' top back were over. That doesn't mean his role wasn't essential as the change-of-pace No. 2 option.
When Mixon missed three games with an ankle injury, Pierce and Cam Akers served as the 1-2 option. Pierce was also a key component on special teams as the Texans' primary kickoff returner, where he averaged 25.6 yards per attempt.
In 11 games, Pierce rushed for 293 yards on 40 attempts. He scored a pair of long touchdowns against the New England Patriots in Week 6 and the Tennessee Titans in Week 18 while averaging 7.3 yards per attempt.
Entering the final year of his rookie deal, Pierce will earn $1.1 million as his base salary in 2025. The rest of his $203,000 salary will kick in on March 7.
He has a $1.3 million cap hit in 2025.
Outlook for 2025
Pierce will enter the offseason as the No. 2 back behind Mixon. He will continue in that role, provided he stays healthy, unless he either moves backward in his development or the Texans add another option in free agency or the NFL Draft come April.

Myles Garrett Opens Up About Departure Of Teammate

Myles Garrett Opens Up About Departure Of Teammate originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Nick Chubb possessed all the tools of a bell cow backfield star from what he showed in 2019 through 2022. That all changed after a gruesome leg injury ended his 2023 campaign in the second game of the season. Advertisement Chubb's return to the field last season was lackluster at best, averaging 3.3 yards per carry on 102 touches in a reserved rile with the Cleveland Browns. It was a sharp and set turn of fate for Chubb who was set to be a cornerstone piece of the franchise's built to consistent contention. But just two years after that Week 2 contest in September of 2023, Chubb was an offseason afterthought eventually scooped up by the Houston Texans. It's the harsh reality of the NFL and one that his own teammates had trouble coming to terms with. Browns defensive star Myles Garrett opened up about his time with Chubb, revealing his own efforts pleading with the higher ups to keep his teammate in town. 'That was part of my talks with (Andrew Berry) a couple of months ago, asking about the situation with Nick and how that's going to work out, and how we can get him back here,' Garrett said. 'I know he means a lot to the fans, but he means a lot to us in the locker room. So, it's an emotional blow to not have him here." Advertisement After it all, Garrett has nothing but praise for Chubb though he knows there is a crop of players ready and able to positively impact this Browns offense. 'But we've got to keep on moving, keep on trucking. We've got some very talented backs in that room, some young, hungry guys who have a hell of an example to watch and some shoes to fill. But he's one of the best to ever do it in the Brown and Orange, and we appreciate everything he's done.' Looking through a more positive lens, this is the second chance Chubb yearned for all offseason and advocated for through his own promotion. If he can build off that momentum and make an impact in Houston, that achievement should be celebrated. However, it will be hard for Garrett, his teammates and Browns fans not to wonder what could have been had his career not taken such a nasty turn. Stefon Diggs Breaks Silence on Viral Boat Video at Patriots Minicamp Tuesday

Stefon Diggs Breaks Silence on Viral Boat Video at Patriots Minicamp Tuesday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. It's been a very busy offseason for star wide receiver Stefon Diggs—for a variety of reasons. He's continuing to ramp up his rehab from the torn ACL he suffered during the 2024 season with the Houston Texans, he signed a deal with the New England Patriots, and he's reportedly begun dating rapper Cardi B. Advertisement However, that attention came with controversy. A video recently surfaced showing Diggs partying on a boat with Cardi B and several others. In the clip, Diggs appears to pull an unknown pink substance from his pocket, prompting speculation and concern online. Diggs arrived at mandatory minicamp this week alongside his Patriots teammates and was asked directly about the video. He gave a firm but guarded response: 'Obviously I want to get as candid as possible with you guys,' Diggs said. 'I kind of have this thing where I don't really talk about my personal life with people I don't know personally. I'm pretty sure everybody here—men or women—are great people, but personal life is personal. 'I had a conversation with [Mike Vrabel], and I'm going to echo everything he said. He told me he's hoping everybody is making good decisions. I also had conversations with people in the building as well. Everything else is everything, and the particulars are all internal.' Diggs has been one of the NFL's top wide receivers throughout a career that has spanned stints with the Minnesota Vikings, Buffalo Bills, a brief stop with the Texans, and now his fourth team—the Patriots. With his return to the AFC East, he'll now face his former team in Buffalo twice a year. Advertisement The organization is undergoing a reset in 2025, with Mike Vrabel taking over as head coach and Josh McDaniels returning as offensive coordinator after several years away from the team. Texans QB C.J. Stroud downplays shoulder injury after throwing at minicamp

C.J. Stroud is fine entering the second day of minicamp. He made it clear after throwing during the early stages of team drills on Tuesday afternoon. The Houston Texans' third-year quarterback downplayed his limited participation during drills last week at voluntary OTAs due to general soreness in his shoulder. Stroud threw passes at practice for the first time with media in attendance after not throwing through the first two weeks of OTAs. Advertisement "I was already throwing before you guys got to see me out there, pretty normally, I think y'all don't have much to talk about so everything is blown up," Stroud said ater practice. Stroud, who was limited during the second half of minicamp, blamed some of the soreness on his aggressive offseason in which he aimed to get stronger while learning the ins and out of Nick Caley's offense. After practice, the Pro Bowler said he wasn't worried about the injury as he expects occasional soreness since it comes with playing the position. When asked if he underwent any procedure during the offseason, Stroud confirmed he was fully healthy and avoided a trip to the medical staff. Advertisement "I never thought too much of it. It's not that big of [a deal]," Stroud said. "I'm fine. It's not as bad as people making it seem." The Texans are hoping to get a revamped version of Stroud after a drop-off in 2024. Houston won the division and finished with a 10-7 record, but the defense did most of the heavy lifting, totaling a franchise record 46 sacks. While Stroud wants to be at practice, Texans coach DeMeco Ryans head coach elected to hold him out of drills. If Stroud had it his way, he would have been throwing last week. "It's important for me to just make sure we're protecting him," Ryans said. "To make sure we know what's best for C.J. and not really worry about the outside opinions. Nobody knows the information about our players more than me." Advertisement The Texans return to practice on Wednesday morning before the end of minicamp.
