Unemployed man fined RM3,000 for threatening TV cameraman
JOHOR BARU: An unemployed man has been fined RM3,000 by the Magistrate's Court here after pleading guilty to a charge of threatening a TV cameraman who was covering his case.
Magistrate Nabilah Nizam meted out the fine, in default four months in jail, on Muhammad Firdaus Abdullah, 50, was charged under Section 506 of the Penal Code with criminal intimidation for making threatening remarks to the cameraman at about 9am at the Johor Baru Court on Wednesday (June 25).
According to the facts of the case, Muhammad Firdaus threatened the cameraman who was with three other media photographers covering a gang-related case. – Bernama

'Yoe Gomen Gang' Busted After Targeting Schools, Govt Offices For Cash
MELAKA, June 26 (Bernama) -- Melaka police have busted the 'Yoe Gomen Gang' after eight cases of breaking into schools and government offices in the Melaka Tengah district since April, with the arrest of three members recently. Melaka Tengah police chief ACP Christopher Patit said all the men, aged 35, 36 and 40, were arrested in a raid on a resort condominium in Tanjung Kling at about 1.50 am on June 21. He said all the suspects, who are unemployed, targeted school offices, district education offices and several other government offices to steal cash found on the premises, involving a loss of RM9,200. "The modus operandi of the Yoe Gomen Gang is to break into the premises involved between 1 am and 4.30 am by prying open the office doors, usually the backdoor, using a screwdriver. "Based on initial investigations and the suspects' confession, six of the eight cases committed by the 'Yoe Gomen Gang' were school offices while the other two were other government offices," he said at a press conference here today. He said the gang of burglars was also involved in two similar cases in the Alor Gajah and Jasin districts (one each) as well as one case each outside Melaka, in Kelantan, Negeri Sembilan and Kuala Lumpur. He said the stolen money was used to pay down payment for motorcycles which were then used to commit the crimes. Christopher said a check of the criminal records of the gang leader, known as Yoe, found that the suspect had 27 prior records, with 24 under Section 457 of the Penal Code for breaking, entering and theft. He said another gang member known as Fadil, 36, has 15 criminal records under Section 457 of the Penal Code besides two drug cases while his 40-year-old brother known as Awe has six criminal records including one case of break-in and theft.

GOF seizes RM595,000 worth of pork carcasses and lorry in Kelantan
RANTAU PANJANG: The General Operations Force (GOF) seized 8,910kg of pork carcasses and a lorry, both valued at about RM595,000, in an operation here on June 19. GOF Southeast Brigade commander Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abd Hamid said a lorry driver and his assistant were also arrested for possessing the carcasses, which were believed to have been smuggled from Thailand. He said the GOF team from the Ninth Battalion stopped the suspected lorry as it passed through Kampung Bukit Tandak at about 4pm. "Upon inspecting the lorry, GOF personnel found 8,910kg of pork carcasses in the rear of the vehicle. "The driver failed to produce valid documentation for the goods, which are believed to have been smuggled in from Thailand," he said today. Ros Azhan said the 37-year-old driver and his 43-year-old assistant were believed to be delivering the meat to the local market. "The total seizure, including the lorry, is estimated to be worth about RM595,000 and has been handed over to the Kelantan Veterinary Department for further action," he added. The case is being investigated under Section 36(1) of the Animals Act 1953. Separately, he said a 24-year-old man was arrested for selling ketum leaves and ketum juice at a house in Jalan Kedai Lama here today. "In the 10.30am raid, GOF personnel found 9kg of ketum leaves, 12 packets of ketum juice, and RM2,500 in cash believed to be proceeds from the illegal activity," he said. He added that the total seizure was estimated at RM3,220 and the case has been handed over to the Pasir Mas Narcotics Crime Investigation Division for further action. "The suspect also tested positive for Benzodiazepines. The case is being investigated under Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act 1952 and Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952," he added.

Ex-Sabah Water Director claims RM17 million not his
KOTA KINABALU (June 26): A Sessions Court here today heard that large amount of cash allegedly found by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in a former Sabah Water Department director's office pantry belonged to someone else. The first defence witness, Ag Mohd Tahir Mohd Talib, 63, told judge Abu Bakar Manat that most of the cash found in the pantry did not belong to him — only the amount inside a knapsack was his. Under cross-examination by deputy public prosecutor Mahadi Abdul Jumaat, Ag Mohd Tahir disagreed with the suggestion that he was the only person who had a key to the pantry. Mahadi: At the pantry and inside the knapsack, there was nothing belonging to anyone else. Agree? Ag Mohd Tahir: Only inside the knapsack was mine. Mahadi: In the pantry, there were items belonging to someone else? Ag Mohd Tahir: Yes. Mahadi: Can you tell the court what items belonged to someone else? Ag Mohd Tahir: A large amount of cash. He also agreed that no items in the knapsack belonged to someone else. Earlier, under examination-in-chief, Ag Mohd Tahir testified that the bulk of the RM20 million allegedly found in the pantry was already there when he entered the office. He claimed that from time to time he would keep his money there, especially when his brother came to request political donations. He maintained that only RM3 million of the RM20 million belonged to him. Ag Mohd Tahir is on trial alongside his wife Fauziah Hj Piut, 58, and former department deputy director Lim Lam Beng @ Lim Chee Hong, 69. He faces 11 charges, while Fauziah faces 19 charges under Section 4(1)(b) of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (AMLATFPUA). The couple also faces two joint charges under the same section, while Ag Mohd Tahir has an additional charge under Section 4(1)(a). The alleged offences were committed between October 4 and November 4, 2016, at various locations including Ag Mohd Tahir's office, a house in Sembulan, bank branches, a condominium in Sulaman, and a tower in Kuala Lumpur. Lim is alleged to have committed related offences between October 13 and November 8, 2016, at the MACC office in Jalan UMS and at a residence in Kota Kinabalu. Ag Mohd Tahir also testified that he was unaware his wife had 19 bank accounts totalling RM2.2 million. He disagreed with claims that MACC had seized 900 pieces of jewellery, initially valued at RM1.7 million in 2016, and later appraised at RM4.1 million in 2023. The prosecution is led by deputy public prosecutors Mahadi Abdul Jumaat, Haresh Prakash Somiah and Zander Lim. Ag Mohd Tahir and Fauziah are represented by Datuk Hj Ansari Abdullah and Erveana Ansari. Lim is defended by Datuk Tan Hock Chuan, Baldev Singh and Kelvin Wong. The trial resumes on July 23.
