'McDavid ain't doin' anything right now': Iconic U.S. sports host rips Oilers superstar

Fellow commentator P.K. Subban played down McDavid's poor play in the game, noting that it's easy to point the fingers at the superstars like McDavid and Leon Draisaitl but the entire Oilers team was dominated from top to bottom.
Smith was having none of that. 'Let me tell you why I have a problem with what you're saying,' he said to Subban. ' Connor McDavid, 13 shots, no goals. Zero? Nothing in the Stanley Cup? And oh, by the way, this is the three time league M.V.P. No champion. He may be the greatest who has never won. These are the kinds of things you were talking about him from last year. So here we are again. Same opponent, same situation, same problem. When do you get to hold a superstar accountable tha not under these conditions?'
Smith also blasted the Oilers rough stuff at the end of the game as them being 'sore losers because you're getting your ass kicked… They were seem worse than they were last year.'

Oilers fans keep running into Edmonton players, have ‘incredible' time

Danny MacEachern and Alex Collins outside the Amerant Bank Arena in Florida on Monday, June 9, 2025. (Danny MacEachern and Alex Collins) When it comes to magnets, science tells us that opposites attract, though a pair of Oilers fans prove that science doesn't always hold true for fans and their teams. A number of Oilers fans have made their way to Florida for Games 3 and 4 of the Stanley Cup Final between the Oilers and the Panthers, including Danny MacEachern and Alex Collins. 'We've been Oilers fans for a long, long time and being able to be here and see Stanley Cup games has been pretty incredible,' said Collins. The pair, originally from Alberta, decided to make the once-in-a-lifetime trip to watch their favourite team and they ended up getting a bit closer to the players than they imagined. 'They were actually at our hotel … (which) is close to the arena, so they came … for an afternoon nap, to regroup just before game time (Monday),' MacEachern said. Once is a coincidence, but twice is fate, as they had another encounter on Wednesday evening. (Danny MacEachern and Alex Collins) 'We went for supper in Fort Lauderdale and at the restaurant where we had a reservation … there was Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, Zach Hyman with the cast on his arm,' MacEachern said. The couple was at Monday's game at Amerant Bank Arena. They will also be in the stands for Game 4 and will be cheering for a better outcome. Oilers fans Danny MacEachern and Alex Collins at the Amerant Bank Arena in Florida on Monday, June 9, 2025. (Danny MacEachern and Alex Collins) '(On Monday) they took some dumb penalties they didn't need to, they didn't get Skinner the support he needed, they didn't get the offense they needed,' MacEachern said. 'As long as they play a more disciplined game tonight, they're going to be fine.' They aren't the only ones sporting orange and blue down south, and say the camaraderie with other Oilers fans has made the trip even more special, though the team always has a place in their hearts. 'I was pregnant with our daughter during the 2006 Stanley Cup run, so that was something really special, and I gave birth to her just shortly after the end of that run,' Collins said. 'I really associate the Oilers with that time of our lives and our relationships, so it's always been something really special for our family.' Puck drop in Florida for Game 4 is 6 p.m. MT Thursday. Oilers look for redemption against Panthers in Game 4 of Stanley Cup final

Social Sharing The Edmonton Oilers are looking for a split on the road Thursday after getting trounced by the Florida Panthers in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup final. The Panthers dominated their first home game of the finals on Monday, winning 6-1 to take the series lead after two tight overtime games in Edmonton. Oilers coach Kris Knoblauch is shuffling the team's lineup as he looks to bounce back, bringing Troy Stecher in to replace John Klingberg on defence and Jeff Skinner to step in for Viktor Arvidsson up front. Oilers look to turn page after devastating Game 3 loss Panthers defeat Oilers 6-1, take lead in Stanley Cup final Stuart Skinner will get the start in goal, despite speculation that backup Calvin Pickard might draw in after Skinner allowed five goals on 23 shots Monday. Skinner has traditionally been stellar in Game 4s, with a 6-0 record including two shutouts and a .955 save percentage. Knoblauch also appears to be changing up his forward line combinations, bumping Connor Brown up to the top line to play with Connor McDavid and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, who missed Tuesday's practice due to an undisclosed injury but is still expected to suit up. Tempers boiled over in Game 3 Things went Florida's way from the outset in the penalty-ridden Game 3, with the team scoring early and holding the lead throughout. Tempers boiled over in the third period Monday, with scuffles carrying on outside of the play and past the final buzzer. Florida winger A.J. Greer stole Oilers defenceman Jake Walman's glove and threw it into the Panthers' bench in the second period, and Walman squirted water on the opposing bench in retaliation. The NHL fined Walman $5,000 for the spray, and another $5,000 for punching Panthers forward Matthew Tkachuk in the third period. A Panthers fan was also seen dumping a drink on Oilers forward Kasperi Kapanen on his way to the dressing room in the third, in a video that generated much chatter online.

Stanley Cup live updates: Oilers at Panthers Game 4

The Edmonton Oilers and the Florida Panthers will play Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final on Thursday. CTV News Edmonton's Nicole Lampa has the latest. The Edmonton Oilers and the Florida Panthers will play Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final on Thursday. CTV News Edmonton's Nicole Lampa has the latest on the lineup. It's not exactly do-or-die, but it might as well be. Games 4 are always pivotal in the playoffs because one team is faced with going down three games to one in the best-of-seven series, which almost always results in that side losing. The Edmonton Oilers are that team heading into Thursday's Stanley Cup Game 4 (6 p.m. MT) against the Florida Panthers, having lost the previous two games to be down two games to one in the rematch of last year's final. If the Oilers win, the series is tied and they regain home-ice advantage in a best-of-three scenario. Lose and they face long odds of coming back: just nine per cent of NHL teams who've gone down three games to one have come back to win the next three and take the series. Follow along here on what's going on in and around Thursday's game in Sunrise, Fla., as I keep you informed with live updates: 3:42 p.m. - Oilers shuffle lineup
