
VIT, med univ to research AI-driven healthcare

Vellore Institute of Technology
(VIT) and
Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University
have entered into a partnership for collaborative research in the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare.
As per the Memorandum of Understanding (
MoU
), the two institutions will collaborate in research, joint publications, development of new technologies, socially relevant product design, joint patent filing, and technology transfer.
The MoU was signed by G V Selvam, vice-president of VIT, and Dr K Narayanasamy, vice-chancellor of Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University.
In addition, the agreement promotes clinical validation processes, ethical clearances, and other collaborative activities that support translational research and innovation.
There will be an exchange of students pursuing undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD programmes, faculty exchange, project guidance, and conducting joint hackathons and conferences from time to time.
Scholarships or fellowships will also be provided for scholars, scientists, and faculty members involved in research work.
The two institutions will also share knowledge resources, academic and training material, including access to the library and other resources, and will conduct certificate courses. "Bridging engineering and medical research is essential for future-ready healthcare, driving smarter and more accessible innovations.
This partnership reflects VIT's commitment to aligning higher education and research with the nation's developmental and public health goals," Selvam said in a release.
Dr Narayansamy highlighted the need for integrating technology with healthcare to deliver high-quality treatment.

AP, Nvidia ink deal to fuel growth of AI ecosystem
Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh government and global chip giant Nvidia Corporation on Friday signed an agreement for setting up Artificial Intelligence (AI) University in the state. This collaboration will also foster a robust AI ecosystem within the state through comprehensive initiatives, including skilling, research, infrastructure development, and startup acceleration. This partnership is designed to position Andhra Pradesh as a national leader in AI-driven innovation and talent development, an official release said. As a core component of this agreement, both parties will collaborate to skill 10,000 engineering students across Andhra Pradesh over the next two years. The tech giant will further support this endeavor by providing curriculum guidance and technical training resources to enhance AI education and build capacity in engineering colleges across the state. Speaking on this occasion, IT Minister Nara Lokesh stated: 'This partnership with Nvidia marks a decisive step in our vision to position Andhra Pradesh as a national leader in Artificial Intelligence. By equipping 10,000 students with cutting-edge AI skills and supporting our startup ecosystem, we are laying the foundation for a future-ready economy driven by innovation, research, and entrepreneurship.' Beyond workforce development, the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between AP government and Nvidia also places a significant emphasis on enhancing research and development capabilities. Nvidia will provide support in identifying and establishing AI research centers dedicated to tackling pressing technological challenges and developing transformative solutions across various sectors. Both the government and NVIDIA will encourage joint research initiatives that contribute to the growth of AI knowledge and its applications. A key focus of this partnership is entrepreneurship. The state government intends to facilitate up to 500 AI-focused startups from the state in applying to the Nvidia Inception Programme during the term of this MoU. This facilitation is subject to the programme's eligibility criteria and availability. This initiative is expected to provide a significant boost to the region's startup ecosystem. The deal will also include the sharing of experience and best practices in establishing next-generation 'AI Factories'. Nvidia will provide insights from its global expertise in operationalising 'AI Factories' that serve as hubs for innovation, industry collaboration, and talent incubation aimed at democratisation of AI.

Cabinet nod to Rs 1,113cr biotechnology devpt scheme
1 2 3 Bhubaneswar: The state cabinet, under the chairmanship of chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi, on Friday approved a comprehensive five-year biotechnology development scheme with an outlay of Rs 1,113.50 crore. The programme will be implemented from 2025-26 to 2029-30. The 'Development of Biotechnology' initiative, comprising 17 sub-schemes, aims to transform Odisha into a knowledge-driven bio-economy by leveraging the state's rich biodiversity and existing research infrastructure. "This scheme will create a robust ecosystem for innovation, incubation and investment in the biotechnology sector," a govt statement said. The programme aligns with the state's Industrial Policy Resolution (IPR) 2022, which identifies biotechnology as a thrust sector. The new scheme aims to bridge the gap between academia and industry while fostering collaboration across sectors including agriculture, medicine and environmental sciences. The initiative complements the recently announced Odisha Biotechnology Policy, 2024, offering incentives for advanced infrastructure development and positioning the state as a biotechnology hub. The cabinet also gave its nod to modalities of the Mukhyamantri Sahari Bikash Yojana (MSBY), with a massive outlay of Rs 6,000 crore over five years. The scheme, aligned with the state's "Viksit Odisha@2036 vision", aims to revolutionise urban infrastructure and boost revenue generation across cities. For the initial year (2025-26), the state has allocated Rs 1,100 crore in the last budget. The scheme, scheduled to run from 2025-26 to 2029-30, will focus on four key areas — urban infrastructure development, wage employment, water body development and animal welfare. Under the infrastructure component, the scheme will develop various facilities, including kalyan mandaps and multi-purpose halls, market complexes and vending zones, roads, drains, and parking facilities and EV charging stations, among others. The cabinet also gave its nod to exempt land premium of Rs 2.60 crore for lease of a piece of land to Narcotics Control Bureau for construction of its building. BEL, Tata Electronics ink pact to boost India's semiconductor self-reliance
Navratna defence PSU Bharat Electronics Ltd ( BEL ) on Friday announced that it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tata Electronics to jointly develop indigenous electronics and semiconductor solutions, aligning with the government's push for self-reliance in critical technologies. The MoU was formalised on June 5, 2025, at Bombay House, the Tata Group headquarters in Mumbai, the company said in an exchange filing. The agreement was signed by Manoj Jain, Chairman & Managing Director of BEL, and Dr Randhir Thakur, CEO & MD of Tata Electronics. Under the partnership, BEL and Tata Electronics will explore end-to-end collaboration in areas such as semiconductor fabrication (Fab), Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT), and design services. The goal is to meet BEL's present and future needs for advanced components, including Microcontrollers (MCUs), Systems-on-Chip (SoCs), Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuits (MMICs), and other processors.
