Ex-Steelers CB on T.J. Watt drama: 'He's not even the highest paid player on this team'
T.J. Watt's contract drama has taken over headlines — and CBS Sports has weighed in.
Ex-Steelers CB turned CBS Sports analyst Bryant McFadden supported Watt on the issue, arguing that DK Metcalf's $33 million per season could play a role:
'[Watt is] not even the highest paid player on this team,' McFadden said via CBS Sports HQ. 'An outsider is the highest paid player on the Pittsburgh Steelers, and what I mean when I say outsider — a player that played with another organization. T.J. Watt is a homegrown player. They drafted him — he's developed to be one of the best playmakers in the National Football League on the defensive side.'
McFadden continued by highlighting how Metcalf's contract, as well as Watt's competition with Myles Garrett, is playing a huge role in the extension holdup.
Agreeing with CBS Sports' Jonathan Jones, McFadden concluded that if Watt doesn't get a new deal soon, he will 'hold-in' for training camp.

Aaron Rodgers Looks Forward to Mentoring Will Howard: ‘I'm Gonna Help Him Out as Much as I Can'

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers revealed during his introductory press conference on Tuesday that he looks forward to serving as a mentor for rookie Will Howard. 'Will's a good kid,' Rodgers said. 'Got to talk a little bit. I thought he did really well today. he seems pretty bright. [The game's] not too big for him. He got through progressions really well. I'm gonna be with him every single day and every single meeting. Found my seat next to him in the offensive meeting… I'm gonna help him out as much as I can.' Advertisement Howard is chomping at the bit to learn from one of the best quarterbacks in NFL history. 'I was fired up,' Howard said when he heard that Rodgers signed with the Steelers. 'Believe me. That's a guy I grew up watching, idolizing, and it's cool to be in the same room with him. Just hearing, first day, his thoughts and the way that he looks at things. He's a legend in this game. I'm gonna try and learn as much as I can from him and be the best support guy that I can be for him. I think it's amazing. The opportunity for me to learn and to work with a guy like that is second to none.' Having the chance to learn from a four-time NFL MVP like Aaron Rodgers will only set Howard up for success at the next level, and he knows that. 'I've been watching him pretty much, damn near, my whole life. There's a lot of things I've picked up from him. The things he can do with the football in his hands are kind of special,' Howard said. 'You got to make the best of your situation. I think him being here, for me, is like a dream come true, learning from a guy like that.' Advertisement Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love recently revealed that Aaron Rodgers played a big part in his development. 'In my time with A-Rod, we had a great relationship. It was awesome being in the same room with him, being able to learn. He was amazing with everything. And I definitely appreciate the way he handled everything on the outside with obviously him leaving and me taking over, and he's been very supportive of me [since],' Love said in an interview with Jason Wilde of ESPN Milwaukee. Brett Favre didn't necessarily welcome Rodgers with open arms in 2005, but that wasn't the case for Love. Rodgers made sure to be a good mentor. He also looks forward to facing Rodgers in Week 8 when the Steelers and Packers square off on Sunday Night Football at Acrisure Stadium. It will be Rodgers' first meeting against his former team since departing Green Bay after the 2022 season. Advertisement 'I was excited for A-Rod,' Love said when asked about Rodgers signing with the Steelers. 'I don't feel like I was too surprised. There were a lot of rumors going on the whole offseason about him going to the Steelers. I was excited for him that he was going to keep playing. It's going to be fun, it's going to be awesome. I'm excited for it. I can't wait to be on different sides meeting up and I know we'll talk pregame and things like that and hopefully we can exchange jerseys after.' Cameron Heyward, Pat Freiermuth React to Steelers Signing Aaron Rodgers

Steelers defensive tackle Cameron Heyward and tight end Pat Freiermuth react to Pittsburgh finally landing quarterback Aaron Rodgers. The Pittsburgh Steelers signing of quarterback Aaron Rodgers has received a lot of mixed responses, but defensive tackle Cameron Heyward and tight end Pat Freiermuth believe it was a good thing. Advertisement 'He brings the leadership. We were talking about this last night. Dude's a four-time MVP. That is nothing to look over. Got a chance to meet him. Very nice and approachable. I'm just excited to get down to business,' Heyward said on the latest episode of 'Not Just Football with Cam Heyward.' 'He's gonna teach a lot of the offensive players how to go about business, and I think that's what we need.' Freiermuth is one of the offensive players that Rodgers will likely rely on early and often throughout the Steelers 2025 campaign. And he thinks the 41-year-old still has plenty of gas left in the tank. 'I'm excited, man,' Freiermuth said. 'Obviously, I think he's gonna help us win. He's a Hall of Fame quarterback for a reason. I was watching some film on him. He's still got some arm strength and he's still an unbelievable quarterback. So excited to get working with him finally.' Advertisement Rodgers looked far from his four-time NFL MVP self while leading the New York Jets to a very disappointing 5-12 finish last season. But his numbers weren't as bad as the team's record, completing 368 of his 584 passes (63%) for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. That is the first step to getting a team to buy in, especially one that's hoping to end its eight-year playoff win drought. 'Excited that he's finally part of the team,' Freiermuth added. 'We can put all the if he's coming comments to the side and really focus on winning this year.'
