CM Siddaramaiah orders magisterial probe into stampede tragedy
BENGALURU: The Karnataka government ordered a magisterial probe into the stampede that claimed 11 lives outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru during the RCB's IPL victory celebrations on Wednesday.
Addressing a press conference on Wednesday evening, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that he has given 15 days for the magistrate to complete the probe, and based on that report, action will be taken. 'The probe will give us a clear picture of who will be held responsible… whether it is cricket association, or police security lapse, or other administrative lapses. Let the report come,' the CM said.
Saying that the government is with the bereaved families, Siddaramaiah also announced Rs 10 lakh compensation to the family members of each of the deceased. 'The State Government is with the family members of the victims,'' he said.
Deputy CM DK Shivakumar and Home Minister Dr G Parmeshwara were also present during the press conference.
Siddaramaiah said that after the IPL victory, celebrations were organised at Vidhana Soudha by the State Government and at M Chinnaswamy Stadium by the Karnataka State Cricket Association. 'At Vidhana Soudha, over 1 lakh people assembled, and there was no untoward incident.
Whereas at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, the seating capacity is 35,000. But over 3 lakh people assembled in and around the stadium, which was not expected. We expected a little more than 35,000. People who had passes should have come to the stadium… if more number of people assembled, what can be done?' he said.
Siddaramaiah said that 11 people died and 47 were injured in the stampede.
'The Karnataka government will pay the compensation to the deceased family members and take care of the treatment of the injured,' he said. The CM said he visited both the hospitals after the incident. 'This should not have happened. Neither the government nor the KSCA had anticipated it. This is an unexpected tragedy,'' he said. Further, Siddaramaiah said that he does not want to play politics over the tragedy. 'I am not defending the tragedy. There have been many stampede tragedies at many places. At Kumbh Mela, many died.

All you need to know about Allu Arjun's arrest in 2024 On December 4, 2024, a stampede at Hyderabad's Sandhya Theatre resulted in the death of 39-year-old Revathi and left her son, Sri Teja, critically injured. Authorities attributed the tragedy to an uncontrolled rush of fans attempting to enter the venue to catch a glimpse of actor Allu Arjun. Police reported that they were not informed in advance about the attendance of the Pushpa 2 team, leading to a lack of proper crowd control measures. Following the incident, Allu Arjun, his security team, and the Sandhya Theatre management were charged under Sections 105 and 118(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), relating to culpable homicide not amounting to murder and voluntarily causing hurt. All parties were arrested on December 13. The actor spent one night in custody before being granted regular bail by a Hyderabad court. As part of the bail conditions, the Nampally court required Allu Arjun to submit two sureties of Rs 50,000 each. He returned home to his wife and Sneha Reddy and kids the next morning. Few days later, on December 24, the actor held a press conference where he publicly reacted to the incident and spoke about the character assassination and humiliation he and his family had to face all throughout. He had further clarified the 'misinformation" that was being spread about him. Soon after, the matter was put to rest. First Published:

CLAT PG 2025: Delhi High Court asks NLUs to amend key, declare results
The Delhi High Court on Friday granted relief to CLAT-PG candidates over alleged discrepancies in the answer key and directed the consortium of NLUs to declare results soon. A bench of Chief Justice D K Upadhyaya and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela's decision came over the plea of students in relation to a couple of answers in the key. The court, however, rejected the objection with respect to the declared answer to a third question, and asked the consortium of national law universities (NLUs) to accordingly award marks to the candidates. The court passed the order while deciding three pleas seeking rectification of errors in the final answer key of the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT)-PG 2025. The bench's verdict highlighted the issue of a high fee of Rs 1,000 charged by the consortium per question for raising the objection to the provisional answer key, observing there ought to be a 'fine balance' between the concerns of the candidates and the institutions. While comparing the fee charged for objected questions by other organisations, the fees sought by the consortium 'appeared to be excessive and disproportionate' but the consortium's concern that it was required to keep frivolous individuals and coaching institutes at bay also did not appear to be 'fanciful or imaginative', it added. The bench, however, expected the consortium to take heed of its observations and take appropriate steps to 'avoid such excessive fee in the next examinations'. 'It may be advisable for the consortium to place this issue before the committee headed by Justice G. Raghuram (retd) for his valuable opinion which may be adhered to by it,' the bench said. The court ruled on the correctness of the answers in the answer key after considering each question and the submissions made by the counsel for the petitioners and the consortium. CLAT determines admissions to undergraduate and postgraduate law courses in national law universities in the country. CLAT PG 2025 was held on December 1, 2024. Multiple pleas were filed in different high courts alleging several questions in the exam were wrong. On February 6, the Supreme Court transferred all the petitions over the issue to the Delhi High Court for a 'consistent adjudication'. The top court passed the direction on the transfer petitions of the consortium.
