Jofra Archer returns for second India Test
London, June 26 (UNI) Fiery pacer Jofra Archer is back in England's Test squad after four years
and is poised to feature against India in the second Test in Birmingham.
The right-arm quick, who recently made a comeback to competitive cricket after recuperating from
a thumb injury, had last featured in the longest format back in 2021.
Having missed out on the white-ball series against West Indies owing to the injury setback, Archer had featured in a four-day match for Sussex against Durham earlier this week.
The 30-year-old showed glimpses of his best as he scored 31 with the bat and collected figures of 1/32 from 18 overs.
Archer had last played for England during the ICC Champions Trophy earlier this year. The pacer, who made an instant impression upon his arrival in the longest format of the game, boasts 42
wickets from 13 Tests.
His inclusion to the squad bolsters the Ben Stokes-led side that took a 1-0 lead in the five-Test series following an impressive run-chase on the final day in Headingley.
Archer accompanies Chris Woakes, Brydon Carse, Josh Tongue, and skipper Ben Stokes in the England pace department, an ICC report said.
England and India will next lock horns at Edgbaston, starting July 2.

Johannesburg [South Africa], June 26 (ANI): South African pacer Anrich Nortje will be out of action indefinitely due to a 'stress reaction', with head coach Shukri Conrad expressing worry about Nortje's latest setback and assured that the 31-year-old will be given every chance to make a comeback. Nortje was not considered for the T20I squad featuring in the tri-nation series in Zimbabwe next month, featuring New Zealand. The pacer did not travel to the US for Major League Cricket (MLC) this year, as he was with the Los Angeles Knight Riders (LAKR) for his stint. Nortje's total of two games this year have come in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), as per ESPNCricinfo. Conrad confirmed that the injury will be assessed, and Cricket South Africa (CSA) is unaware of how long he will be out of action. Nortje has endured plenty of setbacks as of late, such as not being contracted by CSA this year. He last played international cricket during the 2024 T20 World Cup. A toe injury kept him away from the ICC Champions Trophy, and he could not be a part of the ICC World Test Championship-winning Proteas squad as well. This is not the first time he has spent so much time away from the game, with no action from November 2013 to November 2015, November 2018 to February 2019, and November 2021 to April 2022 due to back and hip injuries. It is also unclear which formats he will feature in on his return. 'We will have to see the length of the time that he will be out and the extent of the injury. I really feel for him,' Conrad said as quoted by ESPNCricinfo. 'He is a superstar fast bowler and having to deal with setback after setback cannot be easy. We will wait to see how serious it is.' 'Naturally we are worried. In Anrich's case, this is the second or third stress reaction in his back. It is too early to make a diagnosis, and we are definitely not drawing a line through this name. Hampshire sign Australian batter Lynn for T20 Blast
London, June 26 (UNI) Hampshire have signed Australian batter Chris Lynn for their remaining T20 Blast group matches. The Hawks have six more games in the group stage and Lynn's arrival comes after South African pair Lhuan-dre Pretorius and Dewald Brevis earned international call-ups. South Africa are scheduled to play in a two-Test series against Zimbabwe from June 28. Lynn has played in the Blast before for Northamptonshire Steelbacks and has played 292 T20 matches with over 8,000 runs in the format. The 35-year-old, who featured 22 times for Australia, played for club side Gosport Borough as a teenager, according to a BBC news. "It's great to return to Hampshire, this time as a pro," he said. "I had a brilliant time playing club cricket in the county a while ago now. "The Hawks are a hugely successful side and hopefully I can play a big part in the second half of the Blast to take the team to Finals Day." UNI BM
