India's first Mixed Disability cricket team given grand send-off for England tour
New Delhi [India], June 14 (ANI): The Differently Abled Cricket Council of India (DCCI), in collaboration with Svayam, organized a warm send-off ceremony and Svayam, a leading accessibility organization, for the Indian Men's Mixed Disability Cricket Team from June 21 to July 3. Former India cricketer and 1983 World Cup-winning team member Madan Lal was also part of the event.
In a historic first for inclusive sports, the Indian Mixed Disability Cricket Team is set to play its debut international series at the iconic Lord's Cricket Ground in England, widely revered as the 'Home of Cricket.'
Sminu Jindal, Founder-Chairperson of Svayam, and Madan Lal, ex-Indian cricketer, national coach and member of the 1983 Indian World Cup team that lifted the Cup at Lord's, along with many distinguished guests, attended the event held at New Delhi on Saturday.
Marking the first time a mixed disability team will compete at this prestigious venue, the occasion signifies a major milestone for disability cricket worldwide. This is a landmark moment as the Indian team of 18 physically and intellectually challenged players sets off on its maiden international tour. Under Captain Ravindra Gopinath Sante, the team will tour England to play in a seven-match series. The highlight of the tour is a game at the legendary Lord's Cricket Ground - a first for India's Men's Mixed Disability Cricket Team, with another match on July 1 in Bristol, which will be live on Sky Sports in conjunction with the England Women vs India Women game.

The project is a joint effort of DCCI and the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB). Before the tour, the team underwent a training camp in Jaipur to bring synergy in the team. The DCCI General Secretary, Ravikant Chauhan, described the tour and said, 'It is a moment of great pride for the players and for India. Playing at Lord's is a dream come true for every cricketer, and our Men's team has come a long way to reach this milestone. I extend my best wishes to the team for the tournament and sincerely thank Svayam for its continued support over the years. From backing the team in key moments to providing motivation through sponsorships and recognition, Svayam has been an integral part of this inspiring journey.'
Ian Martin, Head of Disability Cricket England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said, 'On behalf of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), and the Lord's Taverners, I am delighted to welcome the Svayam organisation to Lord's for our Disability Cricket Day. We greatly look forward to the presence of the inspirational Ms. Jindal and hearing her speak.'
Addressing Team India, Madan Lal, ex-Indian cricketer and national coach, said, 'I would like to thank Svayam and all other sponsors of this series, because without sponsorship, no sport can truly thrive. Their support has made it possible for this incredible team to play at the iconic Lord's Ground for the very first time. Remember, the strength of a team lies in unity, not in individual brilliance. True motivation doesn't come from outside; it comes from within. I've always believed that we are our own greatest motivators, and looking inwards is crucial to finding the inspiration to play well. Sminu Jindal has also been invited to speak at the prestigious ECB/MCC and Lord's Taverners Disability Cricket Conference, scheduled to take place at the iconic Lord's Cricket Ground on Wednesday. The conference brings together international cricket boards, global brands, and inclusion advocates to shape the future of disability cricket, while also promoting Svayam's vision of championing accessibility, equity, and inclusion across sectors, especially in sport.
The conference will culminate with a live viewing of the third Vitality Mixed Disability IT20 match between India and England, offering attendees a powerful glimpse into the potential and spirit of inclusive cricket at the highest level.
The team includes Ravindra Gopinath Sante (Captain), Vikrant Ravindra Keni, Radhika Prasad, Rajesh Irappa Kannur, Yogendra Singh (Wicket-Keeper), Narendra Mangore, Sai Akash, Umar Ashraf, Virendra Singh (Vice-Captain), Sanju Sharma, Abhishek Singh, Vivek Kumar, Vikas Ganeshkumar, Praveen Nailwal, Rishabh Jain, and Tarun. The Indian team will also be travelling with four reserves - Majid Magray, Kuldeep Singh, Krishna Gowda and Jithendra Nagaraju. (ANI)

That's just kind of his personality. I think that's a great trait to have."He's firm, but even if he's being hard on you, you know that it's not coming from his heart. It's coming from a team perspective," added 25-year-old said he had a conversation with Rohit on the road ahead for the team."This is a conversation that I've had with Rohit bhai a couple of times that ideally in the next 5, 7 or 10 or 15 years, where would we want the Indian cricket team culture to be?"Gill also said he learned so much from the "proactive" leadership of Virat Kohli."When I played under Virat, I think his proactiveness in Test matches with the field or with the ideas or with his thinking was something that I liked and that I picked up. If he thinks that, okay, this plan is not working, he would immediately have another plan, communicate to the bowler what he wants from them," he also provided a gist of his conversation with head coach Gautam Gambhir and chief selector Ajit Agarkar before taking up the leadership role."They just want me to be able to express myself as a leader. I mean, that's what they have told me, there are no expectations. They are not expecting me to, you know, to do something that I'm not capable of."But you definitely have some kind of expectations from yourself as a leader and as a player. So those are the expectations that I have from myself," he also revealed that he hid all the captaincy talk even from his father, his biggest source of support in his career."I don't even think he (father) dreamt of me being the Indian Test captain, like even myself as well. But we had a very heartfelt conversation once he got to know that I've been named the captain," he already has a taste of Gambhir's style of coaching from his days at the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL, but he was confident of adjusting to him in the national environment."Gautam bhai is very determined, very committed. And he's also very clear with his communication, what he wants from the players and what kind of mindset that he would want the players to have."Gautam bhai focuses more on the kind of attitude or the mindset that he requires from the team or the players."Gill's crisis management ability will be put to test when he will have to decide on the workload of premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah Chief selector Agarkar had already made it clear that it's highly unlikely that India will have the services of Bumrah throughout the series."It's more based on match to match and see how much workload there has been on him. That's what we are trying to look at. You need to see how much workload he had in this particular match."We don't want to have a predetermined mindset. Okay, these are the matches that he would want to play because there are so many factors that can not go in your favour in determining whether he is going to play the next match or not," he said he has not decided upon any plan to counter England's 'Bazball' method of cricket in the series."I don't want to have a preconceived notion of how I would want to go about things. There might be a case, you know, they can come out playing aggressive cricket and can lose a few wickets," he said.
