Triathletes Martyn and Esther show SEA Games intentions
I did it!: Malaysian triathlete Martyn Lim won the elite sprint race at the South-East Asia (SEA) Triathlon Federation Championships in Perak.
PETALING JAYA: Malaysian triathletes Martyn Lim and Esther Joy Chen are staking a strong claim for the Thailand SEA Games in December after commanding victories in the elite sprint races at the South-East Asia (SEA) Triathlon Federation Championships at Marina Island Pangkor Resort and Hotel yesterday.
Martyn, who finished fifth overall and was the fastest Malaysian last year, went one better this time by clocking 1'03:57 to clinch the men's title, which featured a 750m swim, 20km bike, and 5km run.

Karim returns as MA president as Shahidan withdraws
KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Karim Ibrahim is back as the president of Malaysia Athletics (MA). Karim defeated Datuk Mark Ling 25-14 in what became a straight fight for the top post following the withdrawal of incumbent president Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim and Datuk Wan Hisham Wan Salleh. Shahidan and Wan Hisham, who had also been nominated, announced their withdrawal at the start of the annual general meeting, which was held at Wisma OCM today (June 15). Wan Hisham, however, contested the deputy president's post instead and won with 22 votes, beating Sallehuddin Satar (5) and Mohamat Hassan (9). Datuk R. Annamali (24), Padmanathan Nagappan (22) and Prof Dr Mohamed Rusli Abdullah (29) took the three vice president slots, beating Ismail Mohd Ibrahim (12), Iyaru Muthusamy (5), David William (15) and John Ayavu (10). Karim, who had previously helmed MA between 2014-2019, hopes all parties involved in Malaysian athletics can move forward together. "I hope all the negative words spoken during the campaign (period) can be put aside and be forgotten. We must now focus on rebuilding confidence in the sport," said Karim. "We have to work together as a team to face the upcoming Thailand Sea Games. "As I have said before, the grassroots is also very important and remains a priority for me." Karim returns as president, vows to revive Malaysian athletics
Datuk Karim Ibrahim - Bernama PETALING JAYA: In a dramatic turn of events, Datuk Karim Ibrahim has made a comeback as the Malaysian Athletics (MA) president, reclaiming the top post after a decisive win at the annual general meeting on Sunday (June 15). Karim, who previously held the position from 2015 to 2019, received 25 votes, comfortably defeating current deputy president Datuk Seri Mark William Ling, who garnered 14 votes. The leadership reshuffle came amid a surprise decision by outgoing president Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim, who withdrew from the race moments before the vote, despite having previously declared his intent to run for another term. Datuk Wan Hashim Wan Abdullah, president of the Terengganu Athletics Association, had initially also been in the running for the presidency but withdrew at the eleventh hour to contest for the deputy president's seat, which he won with 22 votes. The results were officially confirmed by Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) general manager Fong Wan Hor. The newly elected vice-presidents are Datuk R. Annamalai, N. Zhi Xuan dominates Harleein to seal third title at President's Trophy
KUALA LUMPUR: Goh Zhi Xuan clinched her third title of the year after beating Harleein Tan 11-7, 5-11, 11-4, 11-5 in an all-Malaysian women's final at the President's Trophy squash tournament in Seremban on Sunday. The World No. 129 has now added the President's Trophy to her victories at the Singapore Satellite and Ace Satellite in Kuala Lumpur. "It feels nice to win my third tournament this year," said Zhi Xuan. "Harleein played really well, but I stayed patient and it paid off. This win also shows I'm making a promising transition from junior to senior level."
