L & T-Cloudfiniti forges Strategic Partnership with Deep-tech Startup QpiA

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], May 16: To revolutionise the quantum computing landscape globally, L & T-Cloudfiniti has forged a strategic partnership with Bengaluru-based deep-tech company QpiAI. The collaboration will focus on driving quantum computing workloads, including Quantum Computing as a Service (QCAAS), enabling scalable deployment of quantum solutions across domains.
L & T-Cloudfiniti and QpiAI will explore collaborative opportunities under India's National Quantum Mission. QpiAI is the company that has built Indus, India's most powerful 25-qubit quantum computer. Going forward, they will offer 256-qubit quantum computer, followed by a fault-tolerant quantum computer with 100 logical qubits, thus opening up large-scale commercial applications.
Combining L & T's industry leadership with QpiAI's technical capabilities, the two companies will initiate and execute joint R & D programmes focussed on next-generation solutions at the intersection of artificial intelligence and quantum computing. This will lead to the development of innovative solutions that address complex challenges across domains, including finance, healthcare, logistics and more.

Bengaluru: Karnataka is positioning itself as the frontrunner in India's quantum technology landscape, with state leadership reaffirming its commitment to building a robust ecosystem for innovation in the sector. On Tuesday, Minister for Minor Irrigation, Science and Technology, NS Boseraju visited QpiAI's facility at Karle Town SEZ, Bengaluru, where he witnessed a live demonstration of QpiAI Indus—touted as India's first and most powerful indigenously developed quantum computer. The visit signals Karnataka's intent to not only harness next-generation computing capabilities but also emerge as a national anchor for strategic applications of quantum technologies in areas such as cybersecurity, healthcare, defence, and financial modelling. Speaking at the event, Minister Boseraju said the state was laying the groundwork for a future built on quantum innovation. 'Under the leadership of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, we are committed to establishing Karnataka as India's hub for quantum technologies,' he said. 'Quantum computing is only one part of the story—quantum-secure cybersecurity, quantum imaging, and quantum communication networks will define the future digital economy.' The Minister added that Bengaluru, as the country's de facto innovation capital, is well placed to take the lead. 'With its top-tier academic institutions, technology-driven industries, and a skilled talent base, Karnataka has all the building blocks for a thriving quantum ecosystem. We are also planning to host the Quantum India Bangalore Conference to accelerate collaborative innovation and policy convergence in this space,' he said. QpiAI officials provided an overview of the company's quantum roadmap and reiterated their commitment to driving R&D, talent development, and strategic partnerships from within Karnataka. Founded by technologist Nagendra, QpiAI is among a handful of Indian startups at the forefront of quantum computing, combining software, hardware, and AI-based optimisation to create scalable quantum solutions. The Minister's visit was also attended by Sadashiva Prabhu, Director, Karnataka Science and Technology Promotion Society (K-STeP), senior officials from the Department of Science and Technology, and members of the quantum technology startup ecosystem.

A Bengaluru-based defence company, BSS Alliance ( Bharat Supply and Service ), has developed a drone platform equipped with a firearm, designed for low-altitude tactical operations. The drone integrates with an assault rifle—ideally the AK-203—and is capable of surveillance as well as remote engagement. The system was recently tested in collaboration with the Indian Army . India's first AI-lethal weapon trial held in June 2025 Earlier this week, BSS Alliance also conducted a trial of India's first AI-powered LMG weapon system in partnership with the Indian Army. The system used an Israeli Negev light machine gun with a 7.62×51 mm barrel. Operated through artificial intelligence, the system was able to detect and engage targets using a remote interface. 'This is the first AI-driven weapon in India that can fire any gun up to .50 calibre,' said Vicki Chaudhary, co-founder of BSS Alliance, during a televised interview. The weapon's effective range is rated at 1,000 metres. Live Events Features and technical details of the platform The AI-based weapon system is equipped with both thermal and optical sensors. These allow the system to detect targets in low visibility and calculate ballistic paths based on wind, temperature, and distance. The weapon can be operated via an encrypted remote communication network. The system was also tested in high-altitude conditions at 14,500 feet. The platform can function autonomously inside a bunker for up to 21 days and can also be installed on vehicles and naval ships using a stabilised mount. India's AI defence strategy and drone push The Indian Army has been gradually moving towards automation and AI-enabled systems. The government has allocated ₹100 crore annually for AI-based projects in the defence sector as part of the 'Make in India' initiative. This strategy also supports the development of domestic defence manufacturing capabilities and potential for exports. In 2020, India procured 16,479 Negev machine guns from Israel, with the total requirement projected at 40,000 units. The current AI-enabled drone platform tested by BSS Alliance is part of this shift towards advanced and indigenous defence technologies. — BSS_Alliance (@BSS_Alliance) Modernising assault rifles across Indian forces The Indian Army has set a requirement for around 8.16 lakh new 7.62mm rifles to replace ageing 5.56mm INSAS rifles. The AK-203 rifle , jointly made under an Indo-Russian agreement, is one of the key replacements. India has placed an order for 770,000 of these rifles. Additionally, India acquired 140,000 SIG716 rifles from the United States to meet immediate needs. The integration of such rifles into new platforms—including AI-powered drones—shows a broader push to modernise small arms systems across the armed forces.

This significant pre-lease agreement is for a term of 10 years to begin with. The agreement includes an initial 10-year license period, with provisions for three additional five-year extensions, potentially extending the occupancy to 25 years. The financial commitment involves an estimated rental payment of Rs 1,000 crore for the first decade, with total payments potentially surpassing Rs 2,500 crore over the complete 25-year duration. This represents a substantial commercial investment in India's most expensive property market. JPMorgan India has agreed to pay Rs 6.91 crore as monthly rent, calculated at Rs 595 per sq ft of carpet area, with a 15% increase every three years. The firm has deposited Rs 62.23 crore as security for the transaction registered on June 12. Sources familiar with the transaction told the financial daily that the facility is intended to serve as JPMorgan's India headquarters. On a 3-acre premium plot acquired from Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), Sumitomo is constructing a commercial building featuring 6 basement levels, ground floor and 12 upper floors. The company secured this land through a long-term lease arrangement last year for over Rs 2,067 crore. The land parcel was acquired by Goisu Realty through an 80-year lease contract. Despite winning the highest bid for the plot in 2019, the transaction took more than four years to complete. JPMorgan India secured a substantial office space of over 1.16 million sq ft at Nirlon Knowledge Park, located in Mumbai's Goregaon suburb, in August 2022. The agreement spans more than 10 years, with a provision to extend for an additional decade. This transaction stands as one of the most significant commercial property deals undertaken by any multinational firm across India.
