UFC 316: Kayla Harrison post-fight interview
UFC 316 winner Kayla Harrison spoke to MMA Junkie and reporters post-fight after her women's bantamweight title victory over Julianna Peña.
Perhaps no group of people is happier for Kayla Harrison's UFC championship victory than the members of American Top Team.
Harrison easily dispatched Julianna Peña this past Saturday at UFC 316 from Prudential Center in Newark N.J., where she dominated before winning by second-round submission to claim the 135-pound title. The victory immediately moved Harrison to tears – understandable considering she talked about UFC champ status being her primary goal even while she still competed for the PFL.
Upon her return to the gym Monday, Harrison was met with a rousing round of applause from a large contingent of ATT teammates, who seemed genuinely happy that her long journey to UFC gold was finally complete.
Check out the video below (via Instagram):
Up next for Harrison is a date with Amanda Nunes, who is poised to come out of retirement for a highly anticipated superfight between former ATT teammates and training partners. The two women were cordial with each other inside the octagon after Harrison's victory and engaged in a first faceoff that ended with a smile and hug.

Andreas Gustafsson took back-to-back weight cuts in stride at UFC 316: ‘That's life'
Andreas Gustafsson took back-to-back weight cuts in stride at UFC 316: 'That's life' Show Caption Hide Caption UFC 316: Andreas Gustafsson post-fight interview UFC 316 winner Andreas Gustafsson spoke to MMA Junkie and reporters post-fight after his unanimous decision victory over Khaos Williams. NEWARK, N.J. – Andreas Gustafsson met the media Saturday after his win over Khaos Williams at UFC 316. Gustafsson (12-2 MMA, 1-0 UFC) took a unanimous decision from Williams (15-5 MMA, 6-4 UFC) on the preliminary card at Prudential Center. He was an underdog in the fight, but also took the matchup on a week's notice. Gustafsson was set to fight a week prior against Jeremiah Wells, but had an opponent switch to Trevin Giles on short notice. Then Giles suffered an injury on weigh-in day that canceled the fight. Gustafsson got pushed to a bigger event at UFC 316, but had to endure the drama of changing matchups and the annoyance of back-to-back weight cuts. 'It's a long and never-ending fight week – the first week when you have weight, and then you have to start over,' Gustafsson said at his post-fight news conference. 'That's life. It feels great (to win).' Check out Gustafsson's post-fight news conference in the video above.

Wang Cong wanted more 'Joker' at UFC 316, but still chasing Valentina Shevchenko rematch Show Caption Hide Caption UFC 316: Wang Cong post-fight interview UFC 316 winner Wang Cong spoke to MMA Junkie and reporters post-fight after her unanimous decision victory over Ariane da Silva. NEWARK, N.J. – Wang Cong met the media Saturday after her win over Ariane da Silva at UFC 316. Cong (8-1 MMA, 3-1 UFC) outworked da Silva (17-11 MMA, 6-8 UFC) for a unanimous decision on the preliminary card at Prudential Center. The fight was marred by a huge weight miss from da Silva – 7 pounds – and subsequent 25 percent penalty paid to Cong. But she said she should have finished da Silva and should have been 'crazy like 'The Joker.'' A decade ago, Cong beat current UFC women's flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko in a kickboxing match, and now has her sights set on her in MMA. 'I feel like this fight showed where I am, and I'm ready to go back and train crazy,' Cong said through her translator after the win. Check out Cong's post-fight news conference in the video above.

MarQuel Mederos said he was just throwing sh*t\u00a0without a plan at UFC 316
MarQuel Mederos said he was just throwing sh*t without a plan at UFC 316 Show Caption Hide Caption UFC 316: MarQuel Mederos post-fight interview UFC 316 winner MarQuel Mederos spoke to MMA Junkie and reporters post-fight after his unanimous decision victory over Yanal Ashmouz. NEWARK, N.J. – MarQuel Mederos met the media Saturday after his unanimous decision win over Mark Choinski at UFC 316. Mederos (11-1 MMA, 3-0 UFC) used a punishing leg-kick attack against Choinski (8-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC), who took the fight on a week's notice, to open up the preliminary card at Prudential Center. Mederos won for the ninth straight time and landed 32 of his 38 leg kicks – and took Choinski off his feet multiple times with them. Mederos said when it comes to getting ready for an opponent on short notice, it's mostly about making sure he's well-versed across the board – and then listening to his coaches during the fight to make adjustments. But he landed enough interesting strikes that he could have been confused for having a game plan. Not the case. 'I was just in there doing sh*t – simple as that,' Mederos said at his post-fight news conference. 'Nothing was planned. I was just in there throwing sh*t.' Mederos also had the benefit of a training camp – though just not one he expected to be for this card. He was supposed to fight a week ago, but had to pull out during fight week with an illness. Then he got rebooked in a hurry against Choinski. Check out Mederos' post-fight news conference in the video above.
