‘No loyalty, no problem': Zahid says Tengku Zafrul's exit won't spark tensions in Umno

The Deputy Prime Minister, who is also the Umno President, stated that most grassroots members view Tengku Zafrul's resignation from the party as appropriate given his lack of loyalty to Umno. 'I don't see any indication of 'temperature rising' within Umno. It's better for him to leave if there is no loyalty to the party. Don't disturb him because he is currently performing the Hajj, hopefully, peace will surround his mind,' he said. He made these remarks during a press conference after chairing a pre-meeting with the Malaysian delegation in conjunction with his four-day working visit to the United Kingdom, which began yesterday. Last Friday, Tengku Zafrul announced via a Facebook post that he had submitted his resignation from Umno to join PKR. Meanwhile, addressing the question of a cabinet reshuffle if Tengku Zafrul's position as Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry needs to be replaced, Ahmad Zahid said discussions on the matter should be held internally within the Unity Government. 'The absolute right to appoint ministers rests with the Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim), and in this matter, it is better for us to hold internal discussions to avoid various interpretations,' he said. In her welcoming speech, Maimunah described Embalo's visit as a meaningful step forward in fostering solidarity between Malaysia and Guinea-Bissau. 'Your presence here, Your Excellency, in the capital city of Kuala Lumpur speaks volumes about the commitment of Guinea-Bissau to forging global partnerships grounded in mutual respect, sustainable development and shared progress. We are greatly encouraged by the transformative work taking place in your country,' she said. Embalo arrived in Malaysia on Tuesday, marking the first-ever visit by a head of state from Guinea-Bissau. Yesterday, he was accorded an official welcome at the Perdana Putra Complex in Putrajaya, followed by a meeting with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. According to Wisma Putra, Malaysia and Guinea-Bissau established diplomatic relations in November 1974.

Suhaimi rebukes Joniston

Kota Kinabalu: Libaran MP Datuk Suhaimi Nasir has hit back at Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) Information Chief Datuk Joniston Bangkuai, accusing him of hypocrisy and political betrayal. Suhaimi was responding to Joniston's criticism of Sabah Umno Chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, who had recently said it would be difficult to work with GRS again due to past betrayals. 'What I saw wasn't a mature political argument, but a childish attack from someone who seems to have forgotten his own political roots,' Suhaimi said in a statement. He reminded Joniston that his political career began under Barisan Nasional (BN), through PBS when the party was part of the coalition. 'You were nobody in Sabah politics if not for the BN platform. It wasn't your brilliance but the strength of BN that lifted you,' he said. Suhaimi criticised PBS's record, pointing out the party's multiple exits and re-entries into BN, calling it a pattern of opportunism. He also questioned Joniston's silence during the January 2023 political crisis, saying he only took a stand after it was clear who would remain in power. 'Don't act self-righteous. GRS politics today is not built on moral strength but the moral weakness of others,' he said. Suhaimi said it was disingenuous for Joniston to now talk about rejecting cooperation with BN in the name of principle when he had once stood at the frontlines of BN victories. 'You left BN when times got tough – that's a fact you can't spin,' he said. 'Sabahans are not blind to history. They know who stood firm and who only showed up when there was something to gain. 'Don't make loyalty a joke. PBS: Parti Muda recycling disproven allegations

Kota Kinabalu: Parti Bersatu Sabah Vice President Datuk Johnny Mositun has fired back at Parti Muda Acting President Amira Aisya Abdul Aziz, saying she should not be making baseless claims against others when her own party president has been found guilty of corruption. Johnny said this in reaction to Amira's recent statement targeting Head of State Tun Musa Aman during a protest, where she suggested corruption allegations against the governor. 'It is disappointing that Muda's elected representative has chosen to engage in reckless slander and unfounded accusations,' Johnny said in a statement Tuesday. 'Her statement is not only factually incorrect but reveal disturbing political immaturity,' he said. Johnny said Musa was fully acquitted of all charges, with the Attorney General's Chambers withdrawing the case after thorough legal review. He also noted that Hong Kong's Independent Commission against Corruption had cleared the governor of all charges. 'In any functioning democracy, an acquittal by courts and exoneration by international anti-corruption agencies should end such malicious insinuations,' he said. He accused Amira of either wilful ignorance or desperately attempting to score political points by recycling disproven allegations, calling her continued attacks hypocritical given her party leadership's corruption conviction. 'Before she lectures others on integrity, perhaps she should look inward. People in glass houses should not throw stones,' he said, urging Muda to hold its own members to the standards they impose on others.
