HALLE, Germany (AP) — Alexander Zverev and an umpire helped out with ice after a spectator was struck by a falling advertising board during his match at the Halle grass-court tournament Wednesday.
The board fell from the upper tier of the stadium into the crowd on the lower tier near the end of the first set and struck a 62-year-old female spectator from the local area, organizers said, adding that Zverev and umpire Renaud Lichtenstein rushed over with ice to treat her.

Organizers said the spectator was able to leave the venue by herself, holding an ice pack provided by Zverev to her neck. She was later taken to a hospital as a precaution, they added.
'Something like this has never happened in the 32-year history of our tournament. We deeply regret the incident,' tournament director Ralf Weber said.
The tournament said that Weber met with the spectator in the event's medical center and gave her a free pass for next year's tournament.
A statement from two event managers, Udo Kleine und Uwe Greipel-Dominik, on the tournament website suggested that screws holding the board in place might have come close because of 'drumming against the boards."

They added that nearby boards were checked before the match continued and that plans were in place to check all other boards at that court.
It didn't stop Zverev from racing to a 6-2, 6-1 win over American Marcos Giron in the first round of the tournament, a warm-up for Wimbledon. It continued the German player's strong form on grass after he was the runner-up in Stuttgart last week.
Also Wednesday at Halle, third-seeded Daniil Medvedev won 6-2, 7-5 over Quentin Halys and eighth-seeded Karen Khachanov won 7-5, 6-3 against Zizou Bergs in the first round. Alex Michelsen beat Stefanos Tsitsipas 7-6 (5), 7-5 and will play Medvedev next.
___
This story has been corrected. Zverev won the match 6-2, 6-1, not 6-1, 6-2.

Journalist hints at SEISMIC Liverpool transfer in the works
Liverpool have something else brewing Journalist Ben Jacobs claims Liverpool are still dreaming of Alexander Isak. The Newcastle United striker remains their ultimate target in this transfer window. But Newcastle don't have to sell. In fact, they're proving incredibly difficult to negotiate with after qualifying for the UEFA Champions League. Advertisement Liverpool essentially need to hope that Newcastle would prefer the cash they could get for Isak in order to upgrade their squad. If so, perhaps a deal could happen. Though even then, we're still talking about a transfer record deal. Something that could approach £150m.

Gaumont TV President Talks End of Peak TV, Warns: 'If We Don't Own the IP, We Lose Our Identity'
'Everything is very challenging right now. We have had 10 years which were wonderful in France and all over Europe.' That is how Gaumont Television president and producer Isabelle Degeorges described the state of the TV sector after the end of Peak TV during a keynote appearance at the Conecta Fiction & Entertainment industry gathering in Cuenca, Spain. 'There was a period when anything was possible. All streamers wanted to come to France and wanted to commission in France,' she highlighted. But COVID and the end of peak TV mean that everyone must now operate under a new normal. More from The Hollywood Reporter Eurovision Drama and 'The Nameless': Movistar Plus+ Exec Touts Focus on Event Programming Lewis Hamilton Signed Off on Brad Pitt and Damson Idris' Driving in 'F1: The Movie' In Spain, Warner Exec Explains the HBO Max Rebrand But Degeorges says it's all about the right attitude to tackle challenges. 'We just have to find that it's normal,' she argued. 'I mean, it is normal. We know that all over the world, it's normal to fight, it's normal to adapt, it's normal to create new shows.' With Netflix hit series Lupin recently getting renewed for season 4, Degeorges shared the state of production. 'We are shooting right now, and it will arrive on screen next year,' she told the Conecta audience without sharing any insights into the storylines or other creative details. Owning strong intellectual property has been a key focus for producers, and Gaumont isn't any different in that regard in the age of global streamers. France's rules requiring U.S. and global streamers to invest a minimum of 20 percent of their net French revenue in European works is key here, Degeorges emphasized. 'If we don't own the IP, we lose our identity,' she said. 'If we don't own the IP, my feeling is that everything belongs to the U.S., and at the end, it is their identity.' Speaking of IP, the executive on Tuesday also touted such upcoming projects as In the Shadow of the Forest, a thriller series for Apple TV+ starring Benoît Magimel and Mélanie Laurent for Apple TV+, and the ninth season of hit procedural The Art of Crime for France Télévisions that Gaumont has sold to more than 60 countries. Degeorges also used her Conecta keynote to argue in favor of the regulation of artificial intelligence, calling for rules that ensure that AI companies properly pay creators rather than use their works for free to train their models. Liverpool preparing offer for £75m England forward
Then there's the case of Luis Diaz. Out of contract in 2027, he could be sold to either Barcelona or a team in the Saudi Pro League in order to avoid losing him for a diminished fee. Anthony Gordon back on the radar Those sales would pave the way for a high-quality replacement. Advertisement And there is no question which winger would come out on top of the Reds' wishlist. Liverpool were tantalisingly close to agreeing a deal for Newcastle's Anthony Gordon last summer. The move ultimately fell apart at the final hurdle - with Liverpool said to be reluctant to add Jarell Quansah to the deal. The Magpies needed big sales in order to comply with PSR regulations and ended up getting rid of Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh instead. Gordon stayed put - signing a new deal in October - but Liverpool haven't gone away. © IMAGO - Anthony Gordon Liverpool Liverpool prepared to make offer for Gordon A new report by DAVEOCKOP claims that club execs have maintained contact with Gordon's representatives and are ready with an offer this summer. Advertisement It would require some of Liverpool's current wing options being shipped out first - and Gordon has been valued at around £75m. 'Liverpool have remained in active contact with Anthony Gordon's representatives since last summer,' the report reads. 'The Anfield club are prepared to make a significant move for the Newcastle United winger if one of their current forwards departs this summer – with the likes of Federico Chiesa, Darwin Nunez, and even Luis Diaz facing less than certain futures on Merseyside. 'The Reds' interest in the England international has persisted following their failed attempt to secure his services.' Advertisement Last season wasn't his best, scoring six goals and adding five assists as the Geordies regained their Champions League status. He fell out of the lineup towards the end of the campaign but the England international remains a high-class player. Gordon enjoys a friendship with Curtis Jones and was on Liverpool's books during his schoolboy days.
