RMC deploys rapid response teams to repair street lights

Ranchi: The Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has pressed 25 rapid response teams for carrying out the repairs and upkeep of 222 street lights across the state capital ahead of the monsoon.
Several street lights across key residential and commercial areas such as Dhurwa, Namkum, Kanke, Morabadi, Booty More, Chutia, and Harmu have been order for weeks, forcing locals to lodge several complaints with the civic body.
"Our aim is to complete the repairs before the monsoon intensifies over the state. Many lights suffer from low voltage or wiring issues, and some just flicker dimly without providing actual illumination.
Our teams are working to rectify all technical faults, including switch and cable damage," said Saurabh Keshri, assistant engineer, RMC.
Residents have welcomed the move but emphasised the urgency. "In our area, the lights either don't work at all or glow faintly like they're about to go out. With the rains approaching and darkness setting in earlier, these blacked-out streets are becoming increasingly unsafe, especially for women and senior citizens," said Rita Kumari from Dhurwa.

Prakash Tiwari, a resident of Booty More, echoed similar concerns. "We've been complaining about non-functional lights for years. I'm glad RMC is acting now because my lane turns pitch dark after 7 pm. Kids and working professionals face real risks."
RMC urged citizens to report faulty streetlights through the Smart Ranchi App, WhatsApp (8141231235), or the toll-free number 1800-570-1235. Ward-level supervisors have been assigned to oversee progress and ensure accountability.

Thundershowers sweep city, likely over next few days too
1 2 3 Pune: Thundershowers accompanied by strong gusty winds swept across several parts of Pune city on Friday evening, bringing respite from heat. It started to rain around afternoon and the intensity varied in different localities, with some areas experiencing only light showers. India Meteorological Department (IMD) data said Pashan recorded the highest rainfall at 19.8mm, followed by Narayangoan at 18mm and Rajgurunagar at 17.5mm. Shivajinagar area received 15.2mm of rainfall, while the NDA area saw 7.5mm. Dhamdhere recorded 4.5mm, several areas including Koregaon Park, Nimgiri, Kurvande and Chinchwad received rainfall of just 0.5mm each. Malin recorded 1mm during the same period. Weather observations at 5.30pm on Friday revealed high humidity levels across monitoring stations. Shivajinagar reported 89% relative humidity, Lohegaon 77%, while Chinchwad, Magarpatta and Koregaon Park areas showed 86%, 82% and 91% relative humidity, respectively.
