Foreigner fighting arrest bites off cop's ear
KUALA LUMPUR: A police corporal lost part of his left ear after he was bitten by an aggressive foreigner while attending to a distress call at Metro Prima in Kepong this morning.
Sources said the foreigner became unruly at a private clinic, leading the staff to call the police on him.
"The 10.30am incident occurred when the corporal and his colleague arrived and tried to calm the foreigner down. After several attempts, the suspect who seemed to have calmed down was ushered into the patrol car.
"When he got to the car door and was about to be placed inside the vehicle, he suddenly turned and bit the corporal's left ear, severing it.
"The corporal was bleeding profusely and was rushed to Kuala Lumpur Hospital for emergency treatment."
Sentul deputy police chief Superintendent Jasni Zopal confirmed the incident when contacted, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 325 of the Penal Code for causing grievous hurt.
"Initial investigations revealed that the 38-year-old suspect is a student at a private college.
"We have detained the suspect to facilitate investigations," he said.
It is understood that the corporal is currently in stable condition at the hospital and waiting to undergo surgery to reattach the severed portion of his ear.

He cautioned the public against spreading unverified claims that could stir anxiety within the community. "Let the police conduct a thorough investigation. Speculation serves no one and only disrupts public order," he said. Police patrols in the area have since been stepped up to ensure no further disturbances occur.

Burglary suspect nabbed after rooftop standoff
KLUANG: Police arrested a 26-year-old man after he allegedly broke into a student dormitory here and later attempted to evade capture by climbing onto the rooftop of a nearby houses and buildings, yesterday. The suspect was eventually arrested at 8am. Earlier, at 4.20am, a man lodged a police report after discovering a break-in at the Yap Tau Sah dormitory. District police chief Assistant Commissioner Bahrin Mohd Noh said members of the public had spotted the suspect spotted loitering on a rooftop. They attempted to persuade him to come down. "Instead, the man leapt from one rooftop to another and refused to surrender," said Bahrin when contacted. Police arrived shortly after, but the man continued to resist arrest, prompting the Fire and Rescue Department to be called in for assistance. He was eventually detained unharmed. A background showed no criminal record. His urine test returned negative for drugs. The case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code for burglary, which carries a jail term of up to 14 years, a fine, or both upon conviction.
