Free Tdap Vaccine Now Protects Expectant Mothers
The Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH) has emphasised the importance of lifelong immunisation as part of its National Immunisation Day 2025, while announcing that all Malaysian pregnant women will now receive the Tdap vaccine free of charge.
The Tdap vaccine protects against tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (whooping cough), expanding previous coverage where only tetanus vaccination was provided. This initiative, effective immediately, is available at all primary health facilities offering maternal and child healthcare services under MOH.
Themed 'Immunisation for All, Let's Make It Happen,' the event aligns with World Immunisation Week and highlights vaccination as a cost-effective and essential health intervention protecting all age groups, from unborn babies to the elderly.
MOH stressed the critical role of a comprehensive immunisation programme in eradicating diseases like smallpox, reducing vaccine-preventable illnesses, and saving thousands of lives annually.
The Ministry also urged parents to ensure their children receive vaccines on schedule and encouraged adults and seniors to stay up to date with immunisations to prevent serious health threats.

Fahmi says MCMC to monitor online vape sales on Facebook, WhatsApp amid rising health concerns
PUTRAJAYA, June 5 — The Communications Ministry, through the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), will monitor online sales of vape and e-cigarette products following increased bans on vape use in several states and concerns over the presence of synthetic substances in these products. Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the issue was raised during today's Cabinet meeting and is being reviewed by the Health Ministry (MoH). 'At the same time, I will direct MCMC to examine the online sale of such products. We have found that these sales are largely conducted on platforms like Facebook and WhatsApp. 'Any enforcement action will certainly involve the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN),' he told a weekly press conference here today. Fahmi said while vape-related issues fall under the Health Ministry's jurisdiction, the Communications Ministry will monitor the use of social media as a sales platform, particularly for e-cigarette products. 'Insya-Allah, MCMC will prepare a report on this matter, and the Communications Ministry will present it to the Cabinet for further discussion,' he said. TH Assigns Companions To 37 Ailing Pilgrims Under Peneman Initiative
From Nurliyana Farhah Ruslan ARAFAH, June 5 (Bernama) -- Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) has assigned companions to selected 37 ailing Malaysian pilgrims not accompanied by their family members during the Masya'ir phase under its Program Prihatin Tetamu Ar-Rahman (PENEMAN). Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar said the PENEMAN companionship initiative manifests TH's ongoing commitment to protecting the welfare of Malaysian pilgrims, particularly during wukuf, a defining moment of the haj journey at Arafah. "A staff member will accompany each physically challenged pilgrim. These companions will not only assist with physical needs such as using the restroom and mobility but also provide spiritual guidance and support," he said after visiting Malaysian pilgrims at their tents here today. Mohd Na'im explained that the selected pilgrims are elderly individuals as well as those facing difficulties in managing themselves and do not have family members to assist them throughout the pilgrimage. Mohd Na'im said the PENEMAN initiative involves 38 TH personnel, comprising 27 women and 11 men, tasked with providing dedicated care and assistance to each ailing pilgrim throughout the pilgrimage, particularly during their time in Arafah. "This year saw a slight decrease in the number of pilgrims participating in the PENEMAN initiative…compared to 50 pilgrims during last year's haj season," he said. He also praised the dedication, patience, and sincerity of the companions in fulfilling their duty to assist this high-risk group of pilgrims. Zaimah Abdul Majid, 60, whose mobility is restricted due to her swollen legs, appreciated the TH initiative in providing dedicated assistance for pilgrims in need of extra support.
