Billerica man facing charges for carjacking and fleeing hit-and-run in Lowell
The Middlesex County D.A. has announced that a Billerica man is facing charges after fleeing a hit-and-run in Lowell.
Christopher Campbell, 30, has been charged with:
assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, causing serious bodily injury
Two counts of leaving the scene of personal injury
Carjacking
Larceny of a motor vehicle
Negligent operation
A marked lanes violation
On May 2, around 10:25 p.m., Campbell allegedly crashed his Volkswagen Jetta into another vehicle in the area of Boylston and Rogers Street in Lowell. After crashing his vehicle, Campbell exited his vehicle and then began jumping onto the hood of the other vehicle while shouting.
This frightened the driver of the vehicle, causing her to flee. Campbell then stole the car, driving it down Rogers Street, then onto a sidewalk and striking a male pedestrian. That man was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Then, just after 11 p.m., State Police received numerous reports of a car, with no lights on, operating erratically and stopping in the left lane of Interstate 495 south in Franklin.
Troopers responded to the scene to find the car abandoned. An investigation determined that it was the same vehicle stolen from Lowell.
State Police, alongside aid from Franklin police, set a perimeter and began searching for Campbell, who was located after he crossed the interstate and hid in a culvert.
When Campbell noticed the police, he yelled that he had a gun, causing Franklin police to taser him and allowing officers to arrest him.
Middlesex District Attorney's Office, Lowell Police, and Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to the District Attorney's Office are currently investigating the incident.
Campbell is expected to be arraigned Monday in Lowell District Court.

Active crime scene after two people seriously hurt in Milton, State Police say
Massachusetts State Police say that two people were seriously hurt after a possible stabbing in Milton. Police say that around 7:35 PM, Troopers were dispatched to the area of 267 Blue Hills Parkway in Milton to reports of a possible stabbing. Once on the scene, troopers found two victims lying on the ground, suffering from serious injuries. As soon as the area was secured, State Police requested mutual aid from the Norfolk County Detectives Unit, Child Support Services Division, and a State Police chemist. Human skull found in Pitcairn was found inside house last owned by man who disappeared 20 years ago
There is no caution tape on the doors, no evidence markers on the sidewalk and a construction crew is working. But those who live on 7th Street in Pitcairn can't help but think about what was found. 'I want to cleanse the area and call a priest! Seriously,' said neighbor Betty Rice. Allegheny County Police said the homeowner found a skull inside, but according to County Property Records, the homeowner is Charles R. Beltz, who disappeared 20 years ago. 'Was there a crime? Was he just found? Were there any cult practices? I just think it's weird,' said Rice. According to State Police, Beltz disappeared on June 7th, 2005, after traveling to Elk County for a fishing trip. His wife filed a missing persons report, but he was never found. Dennis Dirkmaat recently retired as the Director of the Applied Forensic Sciences Department at Mercyhurst University. For over 30 years he has worked to identify people based on bones. 'Fake vs real is instantaneously, once we take a look at it or see it. But the rest of it is measurements, the look, as I said in detail,' said Dirkmaat. He said in most cases, bones can be identified. 'We have a forensic odontologist, and she got a skull that morning, and by that evening, has been able to compare and make a positive ID,' said Dirkmaat. Allegheny County Police have not identified the skull found in Pitcairn as the construction on the home continues. 'I want justice for the victim... If there is a victim,' said Rice.
