Cyriel Dessers gets more Rangers 'abuse' than anyone as Philippe Clement insists one thing is missing to flip fan opinions
The Ibrox no 9 finished as the Scottish Premiership's top goal scorer and is scoring more for Rangers than for any of his other teams
Philippe Clement insists Cyriel Dessers gets "abused like nobody else" at Rangers despite producing the best form of his career.
The big Gers No9 is often slammed for the chances he doesn't take while racking up a more than respectable goal tally.
Dessers finished the season as the club's top scorer with 29 goals in all competitions and was the no1 marksman in the Scottish Premiership with 18 - two ahead of Celtic's Daizen Maeda and only Simon Murray ranked higher for shot accuracy.
And former Ibrox boss Clement reckons that trophies to go with the goals would see opinions on Dessers as a player flipped completely, while making it clear that rational has to trump emotion at Ibrox for anyone to succeed.
"I think Cyriel gets abused like nobody else in the club, or on the pitch at least," Clement told BBC Scotland.
"But he was always there to work hard and to do everything for the club every day, every training, every game.
"Also in this period in his career, he never scored as many goals as he did at Rangers for the teams he played for in the past.
"So in the end, he performed really well with his qualities. He was top scorer I think at the end of this season.
"Of course fans always want more. Cyriel, if he'd played in a team that had won the league, then he would be for everybody a good player.
"But if you don't win the league then you are not a good player anymore.
"That's life at Rangers. That's also the life that fans can have.
"It's only as a club you need to see two things; you need to look at this rationally and not emotionally."

In the end, it came down to two; Russell Martin and Davide Ancelotti, and it was the former Gers defender that won the race. In a behind-the-scenes video posted by Rangers, Martin said: "It's been a long, long few weeks, it's been interesting, but it's been good. "It's brilliant to be back, I love the city and I love the people." Despite his short spell at the Ibrox club, Martin said: "I was desperate to come back at some point." He also admitted that the Rangers job was the job he was desperate for, despite interest from elsewhere. It looked at one point like he was set to join newly-relegated Leicester City, but that didn't amount to anything in the end.
