The Indian Airforce is keen on acquiring three
high-altitude platform system
(HAPS) aircraft, which are
unmanned aerial vehicles
or 'pseudo-satellites' operating in the stratosphere for long durations for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) missions, TOI reported.

"Capable of operating at an altitude of about 20km, which is much higher than the flightpaths of commercial planes, the HAPS aircraft will be used for persistent ISR as well as act as airborne data relay for other unmanned platforms for electronic and communications intelligence," an officer told TOI.
IAF has issued an initial request for information (RIF) for vendors to submit their responses by June 20 amid heightened tensions with Pakistan and a de-escalation along the Line of Actual Control with China.

HAPS aircraft are generally solar powered and are considered to be much cheaper to deploy and operate compared to satellites. "Capable of automatic take-off and landing, HAPS aircraft do not require launch vehicles or rockets like satellites. They can be deployed from different locations as well as repaired and maintained easily as compared to satellites," the officer said.
The IAF wants HAPS aircraft to have a minimum operational endurance of 48 hours with data links and telemetry range of at least 150 km in a "line of sight" environment while it is also seeking launch-on-demand satellites.

"The desirable Satcom (satellite communication) is at least 400 km," the RFI said.
The aircraft should come with a detection range of at least 50 km from operating altitude and must with electro-optical and infrared cameras as well as electronic and communication intelligence payloads. They should be capable of effectively operating even during night and low-visibility conditions.
"The complete delivery is expected to be completed in 18 months from the date of the contract," the RFI added.
The IAF is also pursuing a case for three ISTAR (intelligence, surveillance, targeting and reconnaissance) aircraft to provide accurate "actionable intelligence" acquired through synthetic aperture radars, electro-optical and infrared sensors.
Under the much-touted Defence Technology and Trade Initiative between India and the US, ISTAR platforms were among the different projects identified for co-development and co-production.

Bengaluru Stampede: Kumaraswamy urges CM to fire Shivakumar

Union Heavy Industries & Steel Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy on Wednesday alleged that Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar was responsible for the tragic stampede near the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru that claimed the lives of 11 cricket fans. Addressing a late-night press conference at his official residence in New Delhi, the Union Minister urged chief minister Siddaramaiah to sack Shivakumar holding him responsible for the tragedy. He criticized the current government in Karnataka as being run by "arrogant fools" and added, 'It pains me to say this, but we have a Chief Minister who is completely inactive. He has no control over the Deputy CM. As for the Home Minister, there's no point even discussing, he merely obeys commands. If told to sit, he sits; if told to stand, he stands.' by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Sistema TMS para empresas de logística Sistema TMS embarcador Saiba Mais Undo Referring to the government's felicitation event near Vidhana Soudha, Kumaraswamy said, 'While four people lay dead in a stampede near the Chinnaswamy Stadium, Shivakumar continued with the felicitation ceremony as if nothing had happened. How else do you describe such a government other than calling it an arrogant one?' Kumaraswamy expressed dismay over the state's haste in organizing a felicitation: 'On Tuesday night, the team won the IPL trophy. What was the rush to organize a felicitation event immediately? Who invited the team? Why this urgency? Everyone knows the role the Deputy CM played in all this,' he lashed out. Live Events 'Why hold two separate events? One program, well-organized with proper preparation, would have been enough. There should have been appropriate security and caution. Instead, everything was rushed simply to glorify himself. As a result of this recklessness, sports fans lost their lives,' he said. Kumaraswamy criticized the Dy CM's conduct at the stadium, saying: 'After his show at Vidhana Soudha, the DCM reached the stadium. Right outside the stadium lay the bodies of the deceased. Rather than stopping the event, he walked into the ground, lifted the trophy, and kissed it. Did he play the match and win the cup himself? Perhaps even the players didn't get the opportunity to touch the trophy. In the midst of deaths, he used RCB's win for his own PR and self-glorification.' 'This kind of recklessness cannot be tolerated. If the Chief Minister truly has any strength, courage, or leadership, he should start by removing such a person from his cabinet,' the Union Minister demanded.

Counsellor arrested for duping Pune-based edu institute

Pune: The crime branch of the Pune police arrested Kunalkumar Vidyarthi, an education counsellor and a resident of Bihar, for publishing an online advertisement with the photograph of a Pune-based education institute, its webpage, and logo in an alleged admission fraud case. "Vidyarthi and his wife were in the process of boarding a flight to Thailand from Kolkata airport on May 31. We took him into custody following a tip-off and brought him to the city for further action," said senior inspector Ulhas Kadam from the crime branch's anti-narcotics cell. The police produced Vidyarthi before a magisterial court, which ordered his custodial remand till June 5. Kadam said the modus operandi of Vidyarthi involved issuing an online advertisement to lure students and promising to help them secure admission to various courses in exchange for money. When this came to the notice of the institute, its official registered an FIR relating to cheating against Vidyarthi and two others with the Deccan Gymkhana police on April 2, 2024. A police team conducted searches at suspected places in Maharashtra, Haryana and Delhi to trace Vidyarthi, but his whereabouts remained unknown as he constantly changed his hideouts to evade arrest. Kadam said, "We collected details of Vidyarthi's criminal antecedents and came to know that he is also wanted in a cheating case registered with the city cybercrime police in 2021. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Switch to UnionBank Rewards Card UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo His anticipatory bail plea was rejected by the sessions court, but he did not surrender himself before the police." The officer said a lookout notice was issued to deter him from escaping the country. "We then received information that he would be flying to Thailand from Kolkata airport. We arrested him a few minutes before his boarding," he said. "We are interrogating him to find out the number of students he duped and to arrest his two accomplices who are on the run," Kadam added.

'Traditional banks losing share to fintechs globally'

MUMBAI: Traditional banks are losing ground in the fast-evolving financial services space to agile, tech-driven rivals. Even as overall sector revenues grow, incumbents struggle to hold on to their share, according to Boston Consulting Group's latest Future of Finance report. "Financial services revenues are growing - but banks are not capturing their fair share," BCG says. The value, it notes, is shifting to fintechs, private credit funds, non-bank liquidity providers, and digital-native banks. "Maturing digital assets appear to be on pace to cause significant disruption, with most banks currently on the outside looking in." The fastest-growing players are also the most digitally savvy. Digital attacker banks clocked 85-100% CAGR in revenues over the past five years. Private credit players and retail trading platforms are close behind. Traditional banks, in contrast, posted only 10-15% CAGR, despite holding the largest share of balance-sheet assets. The challengers' edge stems from scalable platforms, lean cost structures, and a digital-first approach. "Non-traditional bank competitors are generating new revenue pools," BCG says. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 임플란트 최대 할인 지원해드려요 임플란터 더 알아보기 Undo "The best attackers are positioned for rapid growth, thanks to modern technology stacks and front-to-back digitised operating models." The disruption extends beyond retail finance. In capital markets, boutique advisory firms and non-bank market makers are chipping away at incumbents' fee income. "Private credit has been gnawing away at bank share, particularly in the US," the report says. At the same time, banks are grappling with long-term structural challenges. Fee income is in decline, non-interest income productivity dropped across geographies, and cost pressures are rising. Despite years of tech investment, efficiency improvements are slowing. "Many banks struggle to counter these trends," BCG says, noting that pricing remains an underused lever. Neobanks' cost-to-serve, the report adds, is often a tenth that of incumbents. "New competitors are winning on productivity." Investors have picked up on this divergence. In East Asia and the Eurozone, most bank stocks trade below book value. "Investors are avoiding banks that may be in a vicious cycle of outdated operating model and low profitability," BCG warns.
