Fishermen families expect more incentives from Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister during his tour to Srikakulam district on April 26

The Hindu25-04-2025

Thousands of fishermen families have been eagerly waiting for the Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu's scheduled tour to Budagatlapalem of Etcherla mandal of Srikakulam district with a hope that he would announce many other incentives apart from launching Matsyakara Bharosa, a financial assistance scheme on Saturday (April 26, 2025). Hundreds of fishermen have been migrating to Gujarat, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and other places in search of livelihood due to limited opportunities in Srikakulam which has 180 km long coast line from Pydibhimavaram to Ichchapuram, the border town of Andhra Pradesh.
With the skyrocketing cost of boats, nets and diesel rates, many families stopped the fishing activity. With the competition from mechanised boats, changes in the environment, many of them are not able to catch sufficient quantities of fishes even after spending three or four days in the sea. Around 50,000 families which completely depend on fishing activity face difficulties during the fishing holiday period which would be strictly implemented every year for nearly 45 days between April and June months.
The previous YSRCP government used to sanction ₹10,000 financial assistance under Matsyakara Bharosa. Now, it was enhanced to ₹20,000. Minister for Agriculture K. Atchannaidu said that around ₹258 crore would be credited to the accounts of eligible families under the scheme during the visit of the Chief Minister.
Several fishermen community leaders are expected to meet the Chief Minister and submit a representation on their grievances. A fishermen association leader Suryanarayana hoped that the government would provide alternative livelihood opportunities with the drop in fishing activity with the contamination of water as several pharmaceutical companies were letting polluted water directly into the sea in Pydibhimavaram and other places.

Naidu launches ‘Talliki Vandanam', ₹10,091 crore to be disbursed for 67 lakh students

On the occasion of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government completing one year in office, the State government has decided to implement the 'Talliki Vandanam' (Salutation to Mother) scheme. As part of this, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu handed over the G.O.s (Government Orders) related to the scheme to Human Resources Development (HRD) Minister Nara Lokesh. The Chief Minister, along with Mr. Lokesh, held a press conference on the one-year governance of the coalition government on Thursday. Mr. Naidu said that among the 'Super Six' initiatives, Talliki Vandanam is the most crucial one. Under this scheme, ₹10,091 crore will be spent annually for 67.27 lakh students, out of which ₹1,346 crore will go towards improving school infrastructure. 'Higher allocation, more coverage' ''There is a major difference between Talliki Vandanam and the previous government's 'Amma Vodi'. They only covered 42,61,965 students, while the NDA government is covering 67,27,164 students, an increase of 24,65,199 beneficiaries. They spent ₹5,540 crore; the present government is allocating ₹8,745 crore, which is ₹3,205 crore more,'' he said. Mr. Naidu said that out of the 67.27 lakh beneficiaries, 29.82 lakh are BCs, 11.76 lakh SCs, 4.26 lakh STs, 66,500 minorities, and 8.44 lakh EBC students. 'This is a step toward demographic equity,' he said, adding, there are 18,55,760 families with one child, 29,10,644 with two children, 6,32,052 with three, and 80,212 mothers with four children. The Chief Minister explained that even students of Class 1 and Intermediate first year have been included, and once school admissions are confirmed, funds will be transferred. In the absence of mother, the amount will go to the father or guardian. For orphans, the District Collector will designate a recipient. The scheme will also cover 76,000 students studying in private unaided schools, he said. 'Whatever I promised, I am implementing it. We promised that no matter how many children a family has, every student would receive support under Talliki Vandanam, and today we have kept our word,' Mr. Naidu said. Aid to farmers Referring to other promises under Super Six, Mr. Naidu said that 'Annadata Sukhibhava' will be implemented on June 20 under which, including the Centre's contribution of ₹6,000, farmers will receive ₹20,000 in three instalments annually. ''The previous government gave only ₹7,500. Now farmers will get ₹6,500 additionally,'' he added. The free bus travel for women will be implemented from August 15. 'Adabidda Nidhi' would be dovetailed with P4. Under the Deepam scheme, women are getting three free LPG cylinders. Thus all Super Six promises are being implemented,'' the Chief Minister said.

Pemmasani lays stone for Shaadi Khana at Prattipadu in Guntur district

The Union Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications, Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar, along with local MLA B. Ramanjaneyulu, laid the foundation stone for the construction of a Shaadi Khana at Prathipadu on Thursday. The facility is being built for the benefit of the Muslim community. Speaking at the event, the Minister lauded two families for making the project possible. He praised Nuthalapati Parameswara Rao and Prameela for donating land worth ₹1 crore for the facility. 'At a time when land prices are skyrocketing, donating such a valuable property for public welfare is truly commendable,' he said. He also acknowledged the contributions of Sudhanagunta Raghavendra Prasad and Kalyani, who, despite not being local residents, donated ₹4 crore to construct nine community halls across the Guntur parliamentary constituency, including the one in Prattipadu. The Shaadi Khana is being built at a cost of ₹45 lakh, consisting of a 2,000 hall with toilet facilities and guest arrangements. Criticising the previous YSRCP government, he alleged that no meaningful support or infrastructure was provided to the Muslim community in the last five years. 'Despite funds being available from the Centre under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram, the previous regime failed to provide matching funds, letting central aid lapse,' he stated. Plans for Guntur Mr. Sekhar also announced future development plans for Guntur, including a ₹30 crore radiotherapy equipment project for the government hospital, a ₹100 crore Ayurvedic hospital, and modernisation of the Guntur Channel. He assured that all ongoing public works would continue at the 2019 contract rates, without any escalation in cost.
