Pelicans' Trey Murphy III deadpanned hilarious answer for Lakers' counter to Naz Reid's shotmaking
One of the biggest reasons the Minnesota Timberwolves were able to blitz the Los Angeles Lakers in a blowout Game 1 win was Naz Reid's impressive shotmaking. As an athletic reserve big man with a smooth shooting touch, Reid is one of the Timberwolves' greatest weapons when he's in rhythm. Reid's 23 points (6-of-9 from 3) in Game 1 were unsurprisingly instrumental in helping the Timberwolves separate themselves from the Lakers.
As the Lakers prepare their adjustments for Tuesday night's Game 2, New Orleans star Trey Murphy III appeared on The Young Man and the Three podcast to discuss takeaways from all of the NBA's first-round Game 1s so far.
When the discussion veered over to how the Lakers can better account for Reid moving forward, perhaps with some sort of advanced schematic adjustment, Murphy kept it really simple. He hilariously deadpanned that the Lakers should actually, you know, guard Reid because he was so open on many of his shots. Then, they'll probably see better success from there.
Honestly, Murphy's point is pretty salient. Kudos to him for delivering it in the funniest way:
While I'm certain the Lakers will enact some sort of wholesale game plan adjustment to try and slow Reid down in Game 2, none of it will matter if they don't stay consistently attached to him this time around. As Murphy said, simply being in his airspace more often on this occasion will be the biggest possible adjustment the Lakers' defense can make.

'Now, hopefully, I'm not retired by the time all this talent has been realized, but the future's very bright for Spurs fans, so they should be excited.' Barnes is under contract for one more season, and he can continue to be the vet that the team needs. This offseason will be crucial, as they can continue to build the young core, or they can go for a big star. The two names that have been mentioned as possible targets for the Spurs are Giannis Antetokounmpo and Kevin Durant, and they have the pieces to pull off a trade. If they were to land either one of those players, their ceiling would immediately rise, and they could become one of the better teams in the Western Conference sooner rather than later. Nets' Cam Johnson reacts to Knicks firing HC Tom Thibodeau
Brooklyn Nets forward Cam Johnson has been on vacation for awhile with the Nets not making the postseason in any capacity following a 26-56 record in the 2024-25 regular-season. While Johnson is no doubt working on his game to be a better player for Brooklyn next season, he is also lending his voice on important NBA topics, including the New York Knicks firing head coach Tom Thibodeau. "It's kind of crazy to say this, but the initial thought now is not really shock," Johnson said during his recent appearance on "The Young Man and The Three" when asked by host Tommy Alter about the Knicks firing Thibodeau. ESPN's Shams Charania reported on Tuesday that the Knicks fired Thibodeau despite leading the team to the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since 2000. Advertisement "I guess he kind of adds to complete that every coach of the year, from '18 to '23 has kind of found degrees of success," Johnson continued. "Kind of in the midst of it, being let go, but you kind of got to look at it from a team-building perspective. That team is a really good roster, and they're really close. So, I guess maybe ownership, front-office is just looking at it like, What can get us over the hump? I guess that's the best solution they had." As Johnson alluded to in his reaction, Thibodeau continues a line of coaches that have been fired recently despite either having good track records in their career or with their team having a good record. Since the beginning of the 2024-25 campaign, Thibodeau joins Mike Brown, Taylor Jenkins, Mike Malone, and Mike Budenholzer as the coaches that were shown the door. While Thibodeau had his flaws when it came to distributing minutes amongst his rotation and adapting to adjustments made by opposing teams in real-time, he still took the Knicks farther than they had been in a quarter-century. Johnson, who is paying attention to the NBA outside of his involvement with the Nets, understands that Thibodeau may have needed to go, but also sees that the Knicks may be close enough that a coaching change could be all that is needed for New York to get to the Finals eventually. ESPN on Cade Klubnik's strengths, weaknesses as a 2026 NFL draft prospect Cade Klubnik has plenty working in his favor heading into the 2025 season—and now, he'll have the full attention of NFL scouts watching to see what's next. After an up-and-down sophomore year, Klubnik took a major step forward in 2024 for Clemson. He finished the season with 3,639 passing yards, 36 touchdowns and just six interceptions, putting together one of the best single-season performances by a Clemson quarterback in recent memory. According to ESPN's Jordan Reid, 'Klubnik entered 2024 with question marks after a rough sophomore season but emerged as a star.' Reid praised Klubnik's polish and command in the pocket, writing that 'he's able to repeat his mechanics and keep his eyes, feet and throwing motion in sync while going through his progressions.' The Clemson quarterback delivered on the biggest stage too, saving his best performance for the first round of the College Football Playoff, where he threw for 336 yards and three touchdowns against Texas. That showing, along with a strong supporting cast—Clemson returns its top three receivers in 2025—led Reid to project Klubnik as the No. 1 overall pick in his Way Too Early 2026 mock draft. 'He should be set up for success in 2025,' Reid said. But NFL scouts aren't sold just yet. While Klubnik's accuracy, footwork, and decision-making have drawn praise, questions remain about his physical ceiling. 'Scouts around the league I've talked to have raised concerns about Klubnik's arm strength and whether he can build on his 2024 success,' Reid noted. 'Questions about his arm surface when he's forced to test tight windows in underneath coverage and with his inconsistent trajectory on deep passes,' Reid added. Klubnik averaged just 8.56 air yards per passing attempt last season, which ranked 58th in the FBS. 'He must be more assertive and willing to challenge coverage in intermediate and deep areas,' Reid said. Klubnik's development in 2025 will go a long way in determining whether he truly has the tools to become a top NFL quarterback—or if he still has something to prove at the next level.
