Punjab Police bust narco-hawala cartel linked to Dubai and Pakistan; recover 4.5 kg heroin and Rs 8.7 lakh cash
Amritsar (Punjab) [India], June 10 (ANI): In a significant breakthrough, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police has dismantled a well-organised narco-hawala cartel allegedly led by Arshdeep, who is currently incarcerated in Goindwal Jail, officials said on Tuesday. According to officials, acting on precise intelligence, police teams arrested six operatives and recovered 4.526 kg of heroin and Rs 8.7 lakh in drug money. Preliminary investigations reveal that Arshdeep, in collusion with associates Jaspreet and Karan, orchestrated the drug trade and hawala transactions. Karan, along with Gurmeet and Rajinderpal, managed the retrieval and distribution of cross-border drug consignments across various districts in Punjab. 'The proceeds from the narcotics trade were laundered through hawala channels by Jaspreet, funnelled to Dubai, UAE, and subsequently to Pakistan. A mobile phone used by Arshdeep inside the jail was seized, providing critical evidence of their cross-border operations,' the police said in a release. One of the arrested operatives, who spent a year in Dubai forging connections with Pakistani smugglers, leveraged his village's proximity to the international border to facilitate smuggling directly to his residence after returning to India two months ago, they said. Earlier on Sunday, the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) of Punjab, in a joint operation with Muktsar Police, arrested three wanted fugitive criminals after AGTF arrested an associate of a gangster in the state. Forces recovered weapons and drugs from the possession of the fugitives. The accused have been identified as Gaurav Kumar (also known as Billa), Vikasdeep Singh, and Lovepreet Singh. All three were wanted in multiple criminal cases, including serious offences under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act. 'Accused Gaurav was a fugitive in a case registered at Malout police station, while the other two were wanted in a case registered at Sri Muktsar Sahib police station,' Punjab Director General of Police (DGP), Gaurav Yadav, shared the information in an X post on Sunday. The police also recovered 174 gm heroin, two pistols (.32 bore), and 10 live cartridges. Preliminary investigation revealed that the trio was planning 'to eliminate a rival.' In a separate incident which occurred earlier on Sunday, the Anti-Gangster Task Force of Punjab apprehended Nilson Massih alias Sunny, an associate of Gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, said Director General of Punjab Police Gaurav Yadav. Minor rape survivor refuses abortion, withdraws plea before Delhi HC; shifted to shelter home for care
By Dhiraj Beniwal New Delhi [India], June 10 (ANI): A minor rape survivor has informed the Delhi High court of her decision to carry her 29-week pregnancy to term, going against her parents' wishes. Consequently, she withdrew the petition that had sought permission for medical termination of the pregnancy. Acknowledging her plea for alternative accommodation, the court directed that the girl be housed at Nirmal Chhaya, a shelter home in Delhi, and ordered authorities to ensure her proper care during the remainder of her pregnancy. During the hearing before the bench of Justice Harish Vaidyanathan Shankar, the minor stated that her parents are opposing her decision. As a result, she may be unable to stay at her parental home. She prayed that the court pass directions to provide her with accommodation in a shelter home. 'In view of the above, this Court is of the view that the Petitioner can be accommodated in Nirmal Chhaya, Hari Nagar, Delhi,' Justice Shankar said in an order passed on June 4. 'Let necessary steps be taken by the Investigation Officer in conjunction with the authorities of Nirmal Chhaya, Hari Nagar and the concerned authorities of the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi, for ensuring that Ms. K is kept in safe custody,' Justice Shankar ordered. The court also directed the authorities concerned to ensure that Ms. X's pregnancy goes through without any difficulty and to provide all such support as required. In view of the minor's wish, the petition was dismissed as withdrawn. Advocate Anwesh Madhukar appeared for her petitioner. The High Court was dealing with a petition moved by parents on behalf of their minor daughter seeking permission to terminate her 29-week pregnancy, which occurred on account of sexual assault. An FIR was also registered in this case by the Delhi Police. The High Court, while hearing the petition on May 29, gave directions for the constitution of a medical board at Deen Dayal Upadhyay (DDU) Hospital to examine the victim. The board submitted a report on May 30. The board had opined that it is not medically safe for the Petitioner to undergo termination of the pregnancy, considering the gestation period and her current medical condition. She was administered two units of blood in the hospital, two doctors said, as her haemoglobin level was low. Thereafter, the High Court directed the doctors at DDU Hospital to provide all necessary medical treatment to the Petitioner to address her current symptoms of low haemoglobin, infection, and fever. The MTP Board of DDU Hospital shall review the Petitioner's case after giving her the necessary treatment and furnish a fresh opinion thereon. After carefully assessing her physical and mental health, as per the MTP Act, MTP (Amendment) Rules, 2021, as well as the 'Guidance Note for Medical Boards for Termination of Pregnancy Beyond 20 weeks of Gestation', of 14th August, 2017, issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. The High Court has also called for a fresh report in this regard, which shall positively be submitted for the perusal of this Court, on or before the next date of hearing. On the next hearing, the petitioner refused to terminate the pregnancy and withdrew the petition. (ANI)

Andhra CM Naidu using fake narratives, violence to divert public anger: YS Jagan
Tadepalle (Andhra Pradesh) [India], June 10 (ANI): YSR Congress Party President and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has launched a scathing attack on CM N Chandrababu Naidu, accusing him of using of 'fake narratives and orchestrated violence' to divert public anger over governance failures. In a statement posted on X, Jagan condemned the arrest of senior journalist Kommineni Srinivasa Rao and the 'organised' attacks on Sakshi media offices across the state. 'Chandrababu Naidu is twisting and misrepresenting words that Kommineni never said, just to implicate him and justify an unlawful arrest falsely,' Jagan said. He alleged that as part of a pre-planned conspiracy, TDP-led mobs have vandalised Sakshi unit offices in several districts under the guise of protecting women's dignity. 'This is nothing but a political vendetta masked as concern for women,' Jagan stated. Referring to past remarks by Chandrababu and his brother-in-law, Jagan questioned their moral standing. 'You once asked whether a daughter-in-law prefers her mother-in-law over her husband. Your brother-in-law even said that when you see a girl, you should either kiss her or make her are your standards when it comes to respecting women,' he said. Jagan accused Chandrababu of completely failing to provide safety and justice to women and girls since returning to power. He highlighted the tragic case of Tanmayi, an intermediate student from Anantapur who went missing and was later found brutally murdered, with 'no swift action taken by authorities'. He also pointed to the horrifying case in Ramagiri mandal of Sri Sathya Sai district, where a 9th class girl was blackmailed and raped by 14 men for six months, yet police did not act on her complaint due to fear tactics and negligence. 'In just one year of TDP rule, 188 women and girls were raped, and 15 of them were murdered after the assault. Hundreds of cases of harassment and violence have gone unpunished,' Jagan said, calling it a complete breakdown of law and order. He also said that the TDP regime has destroyed education, healthcare, agriculture, and public safety. 'You gave fake promises like 'Super Six' and 'Super Seven' to win votes, but once in power, you betrayed every single promise. People now see you as a failed, corrupt, and incompetent Chief Minister.' YS Jagan concluded by saying that to escape accountability, Chandrababu is using fake news factories and media manipulation to spread lies and divert attention. 'Your diversion politics won't work forever, Chandrababu garu. People are watching, and they will hold you accountable.' (ANI)
