Prince Harry immigration records must be made public, U.S. federal judge rules
The Department of Homeland Security has until the end of Tuesday to comply with a federal judge's order and release Prince Harry's immigration records, which could reveal if he disclosed prior drug use before coming to America, according to court records.
U.S. District Judge Carl Nichols had previously ruled in favor of the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank that's been seeking the records for several years under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).
Drug use itself isn't a disqualifying factor for a visa, but lying about it could be a greater challenge. In theory, if the younger brother of future U.K. king Prince William didn't disclose drug use on his visa application, that could be grounds to have him removed.
In his 2023 memoir "Spare," Harry admitted to using cocaine, among other drugs.
'Of course I had been taking cocaine at that time. At someone's house, during a hunting weekend, I was offered a line, and since then I had consumed some more,' he wrote in a Spanish language version of his book.
'It wasn't very fun, and it didn't make me feel especially happy as seemed to happen to others, but it did make me feel different, and that was my main objective. To feel. To be different.'
The federal government has fought efforts to air Harry's paperwork, saying the 'request does not meet the public interest standard set forth" in FOIA guidelines, according to defense lawyers.
However, Judge Nichols has ruled in favor of the plaintiffs and on Saturday said he'd reviewed proposed redactions from the government.
"Those redactions appearing appropriate, the government is ordered to lodge on the docket the redacted versions of those documents no later than March 18, 2025," Nichols ruled.
Administration officials and representatives for Prince Harry could not be immediately reached for comment on Monday.
Prince Harry, who is also called "his Royal Highness Prince Henry Charles Albert David George of Wales, the Duke of Sussex, the Earl of Dumbarton, and Baron Kilkeel K.C.V.O.," stepped away from the royal family in early 2020.
He, his wife Megan Markle and their children, Archie and Lilibet, live near Santa Barbara.
'I don't want to do that,' Trump said before taking aim at Markle, who has been critical of the president. 'I'll leave him alone. He's got enough problems with his wife. She's terrible.'

Woman receives plastic surgery on injuries after pitbull attack which killed pet
The son of a woman who suffered leg injuries after she was bitten by a pitbull dog who also mauled her pet to death, is appealing for witnesses to the incident. The shocked mother is recovering from plastic surgery needed on her injuries suffered in her ordeal which occurred in Navan, Co Meath, on June 5th last around 1.30pm. Advertisement Gardaí have also appealed for any information and confirmed they are investigating an alleged attack. The woman's son Eric, who didn't want his mother identified, said they are devastated over the death of their beloved dog. Sadly, their 10-year-old Jack Russell 'Prince' died as a result of horrific injuries which left his intestine exposed. The attack occurred in a field at the back of Lidl supermarket and the Beaufort College on the Trim Road, which, he says, is used locally by dog walkers. Advertisement "My mother was out walking with Prince when she met with a pitbull and its owner. Both dogs were off the lead and the pit bull was not wearing a muzzle," said Eric. "The pitbull started attacking Prince and my mother and the other owner tried to intervene. "The other owner managed to get his dog and my mother picked up Prince to save him but then the pitbull got away again and attacked my mother, biting her on the legs, until she fell. "The pitbull then attacked Prince again until its owner managed to stop him again and told my mother to run." Advertisement Prince underwent surgery and had 40 stitches to his abdomen and lower body at the veterinary clinic, but unfortunately didn't make it through the night. Eric's mother received treatment at Our Lady's Hospital in Navan before being transferred to Dublin's Mater Hospital for plastic surgery "She had two lacerations of between 6 to 10 cm long and punctures in her right leg. There were also bites on her left arm and lesser bites on her left leg. "She needed multiple plastic surgeries and is very shaken and sad over the loss of Prince. "I was with her at the vets, the hospital and gardaí and I'm finding it hard to sleep, thinking of what happened and what could have happened to my mother. "I'd like to trace the owner and the dog and if anyone can help, please contact gardaí at 046 9036370 or the garda confidential line on 1800 666111." Gardaí say they are aware of an alleged incident that took place in Navan, Co Meath, and inquiries are ongoing.
