Michael Wimmer leaves Motherwell to return to Germany for family reasons
Wimmer has been confirmed as manager of SSV Jahn Regensburg after the Steelmen accepted a compensation offer from the German third-tier club.
Motherwell made major attempts to help Wimmer's family deal with being apart from the 44-year-old but another personal issue arose as the season came to a close which meant he felt he had to move home.
A club statement revealed Wimmer had reached out to chairman Kyrk Macmillan and chief executive Brian Caldwell to explain he would like to stay in Germany after returning home this week.
A statement added: 'Wimmer explained the reasons for wishing to accept the new role were predominantly due to major family issues that have recently arisen in Germany.

'Following extensive conversations with Michael, the club very reluctantly negotiated a compensation package with SSV Jahn Regensburg.'
The former Austria Vienna manager said in a statement: 'I want to thank the board and all the staff at the club for the way they welcomed me to Scotland and also supported me so much from when I arrived in February.
'They have done everything to support me and my family during my time here.
'This has been an ongoing, extremely difficult position that I have found myself in, and the club have done all they could to support me during these challenging times, both whilst I was in post and while I have been back in Germany.
'I am sorry to all the Motherwell fans; the support you have shown me has been outstanding, and I have loved learning about this wonderful club.
'This decision was an extremely hard one for me to make. However, I have decided to move back home, as I need to put my family first and be with them, and I want to thank the board for the understanding shown through these challenging times.
'I hope the club can continue to progress next season. I really enjoyed the time I spent in Scotland.
'There are great people at the club who are ambitious and want the best for the club going forward. I only wish everyone at Motherwell FC the very best for the future.'
Motherwell wished Wimmer and his family all the best and added that they would start the process of recruiting a new manager with immediate effect.
Wimmer ended his short spell in charge unbeaten at Fir Park and with victory over Rangers at Ibrox to remember.
He had the team pushing for the top six in the William Hill Premiership until the final moments before the split and they ran Hearts close for seventh place before finishing eighth.
He won five of his 12 games in charge after succeeding Stuart Kettlewell, who stepped down in late January.

Liverpool have already negotiated with Leverkusen once this summer, signing Jeremie Frimpong. The Dutchman has moved to Anfield as Trent Alexander-Arnold's replacement but his £30m switch was made easier by a release clause in his contract. Wirtz has no such clause and that has led to the back and forth between the two clubs. Liverpool will have to break the British transfer record if they do want to sign the playmaker, who is regarded as a generational talent with the Reds confident he can have an instant impact. club chief Fernando Carro previously said they "would never let Wirtz leave" for less than their valuation. Sunderland make £8.5m demand as Jobe Bellingham Dortmund talks reach deadlock
Borussia Dortmund want to sign Sunderland midfield starlet Jobe Bellingham before the Club World Cup and the two clubs remain in negotiations for the player, who has agreed a five-year deal with BVB Borussia Dortmund have been told they must up their bid by £8.5million to strike a deal with Sunderland for Jobe Bellingham. The 19-year-old midfield starlet has already agreed to join the German giants on a five-year contract but they are yet to shake hands on a transfer with the Black Cats. It's understood Bellingham's release clause is currently set at £33.7m (€40m) but Dortmund are not currently willing to reach that figure and have instead communicated they would be willing to propose a £25.2m (€30m) package. The offer would be worth £21m upfront with a further £4.2m in achievable add-ons but Sunderland want the buy-out clause met in full before they sanction the move. German sources have indicated BVB's first official bid was worth around £21m all in and was swiftly rejected. Dortmund were of the belief that Bellingham could leave Sunderland for £25.2m (€30m) due to an alleged gentleman's agreement between the player and his current club but they now face a race against the clock to get a move over the line before the Club World Cup. Championship play-off winner Bellingham was named in Lee Carsley's England U21 squad for the European Championships on Friday. However, if Dortmund thrash out a deal before Tuesday's transfer deadline, they would hold all the cards and could take Bellingham to the Club World Cup should they wish as per FIFA rules, clubs are not obliged to release players for the U21 Euros. Liam Delap will be travelling to the United States with Chelsea after he sealed a £30m move from Ipswich Town earlier this week. Carsley claimed on Friday that Bellingham would currently be travelling to Slovakia with the Three Lions, explaining: 'The FIFA window closes on the 10th of June, so we just have to make sure that we're flexible, similar to what we've done with all of the players. We're here to support them, make sure we help them as much as we can. Jobe is an important part of our squad and will be travelling with us.' The England U21 boss will be allowed to make changes to his squad right up until his side's tournament opener against Czechia in Dunajska Streda next Thursday. Dortmund have been pushing hard to reach an agreement with Bellingham since the end of the season despite rival interest from fellow German side Eintracht Frankfurt. In early May, BVB officials Lars Ricken and Sebastian Kehl plus head coach Niko Kovac flew to the North East for discussions with the player. Departing CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke also flew to England to meet the Bellingham family before later jetting to Ibiza, where Bellingham was on holiday, for a final round of talks that look to have swung the balance.

No quick fix to Scotland's keeper conundrum, admits boss Steve Clarke
With regular starter Craig Gordon injured, along with the recently-capped Zander Clark and Liam Kelly, Clarke was relieved to be able to call on the fit-again Angus Gunn for his June squad. But 22-year-old Cieran Slicker was thrust into an unexpected debut against Iceland on Friday night after Gunn was hit with an ankle injury in the opening stages, Kilmarnock's Robby McCrorie having suffered a thigh problem in the warm-up. The Ipswich keeper had only played six first-team matches and struggled with the occasion. He conceded almost immediately, after losing possession himself, and his kicking got worse before it got better. Slicker conceded two more soft goals after John Souttar's equaliser and it made for painful viewing to see the inexperienced keeper struggle to deal with what should have been a memorable experience turning into a personal nightmare. Clarke had brought 18-year-old Callan McKenna into the training squad in midweek with an eye on the future after expressing concern in recent months that the long-term future of the goalkeeping department had been neglected somewhat. McKenna moved from Queen's Park to Bournemouth in February 2024 after playing nine first-team games for the Spiders. The position has been one of Scotland's strengths for many years, with Gordon and the now retired David Marshall and Allan McGregor all vying for the gloves. Gordon, now 42, is one of the few Scottish first-choice keepers in the William Hill Premiership and he and Clark have swapped that status in recent seasons with Hearts. Clarke signalled he would seek to find available keepers who were not on holiday before Scotland leave for Vaduz on Sunday. His choices in Scotland's top flight are limited to players that do not regularly play. Ross Doohan has been Aberdeen's second-choice keeper this season, although he played 18 times because of injuries to Bulgaria international Dimitar Mitov. Doohan has been tipped to move to Celtic to replace Scott Bain as third choice following the former Dundee keeper's move to Falkirk. The 33-year-old did not play this season but does have three caps. Dundee's Jon McCracken and Ross County's Ross Laidlaw are also potential options, but both have been on the bench in recent months. Clarke said: 'It's a circumstance that I pointed out in March. I could see something like this possibly coming. 'The good thing, or the only crumb of comfort to take from it, is it happened in a friendly match. 'We'll be better covered when it comes to the autumn. 'It's pretty unusual to have five first choice all struggling with injury, all out. Not everybody plays regularly at their club.
