Kayden Moy: Friends 'hit hard' by death in Irvine beach stabbing
Tributes have been paid to a 16-year-old boy who died after a stabbing on Irvine Beach at the weekend.Kayden Moy, from East Kilbride, was in a disturbance involving a large group of teenagers at 18:45 on Saturday. He died in hospital on Sunday. The teenager previously played for football club Busby AFC, which said his death had "hit everyone hard".Police Scotland said a 17-year-old boy has been arrested over the incident.
The force said a large number of people were on the Ayrshire beach on Saturday - one of the warmest days of the year in Scotland - and may have filmed footage of the incident.Busby AFC said it had launched a fundraising appeal for Kayden's family.It said in a statement: "The Club was devastated to find out that Kayden Moy sadly lost his life recently after being the victim of a knife attack. "Kayden played in our youth set-up for several years and it has hit everyone hard."We are aware that nothing will ever replace the life of an individual but we hope that this fundraising will help Kayden's family at this extremely difficult time."
On Sunday, Kayden's father Paul had called his son "my best friend" in a post on social media.He wrote: "My first born son, my big boy, my best friend, my main man, my everything, rest easy my boy."Social media posts suggested dozens of teenagers had been among those who witnessed the incident on Irvine beach.Members of the public with any information about the death are being urged to contact Police Scotland with details.

The family of a Scottish teenager who disappeared more than a month ago have vowed to never give up on their 'fight for the truth' after a body was found on Friday. Cole Cooper, 19, was reported missing on May 9, prompting a major search investigation that involved helicopters, divers and financial investigators. He was last seen by his family on May 2 or 3 and was captured on CCTV at about 6am on May 4 in Longcroft, Falkirk, as he unsuccessfully tried to access his father's home after a house party. Taking to Facebook to issue a painstaking update, the family published a statement that read: 'We never gave up, and we never will give up - not until we have the answers. The fight for truth, for justice, and for Cole is not over'. The family, who described Mr Cooper as their 'world' and said they were 'completely broken', also thanked the local community for their assistance in the widespread search effort to bring their missing boy home. On Friday, a Police Scotland spokesman confirmed that the body of a man had been discovered in a wooded area near Kilysth Road. It added: 'Formal identification has yet to take place however the family of missing man Cole Cooper, 19, has been informed. 'Enquiries remain ongoing to establish the full circumstances.' The final sighting of Mr Cooper was at 8.45pm on May 7, on the A803 at the intersection with Cumbernauld Road, Longcroft, when he asked a school friend for a lift - which was not given. Around 5ft10ins, of medium build with brown short hair, he was last seen wearing a black puffer-style jacket with black jogging bottoms. His family described the missing boy's disappearance as 'completely out of character'. In a heartfelt plea made just two weeks ago, Mr Cooper's mother Wendy Stewart begged her son to 'come home'. She said: 'I love and miss you so so so much. Where are you son? My heart is breaking I just want a big cuddle from you son.' The worried mother also posted a touching video of Mr Cooper singing into a microphone and dancing with her, with the caption 'Please help get my gorgeous, kind loving boy back to me'. Following his shock disappearance, an online portal was established to help share footage, images and possible lines of inquiry. Detectives, who said they received 'numerous' submissions from members of the public, viewed more than 2000 hours of CCTV. Officers also reported that the investigation was being treated as a missing person's inquiry rather than a criminal probe. Chief Inspector Alex Hatrick, the local area commander, said on June 6: Our priority remains tracing Cole and getting answers for his family on his whereabouts. 'We have a dedicated team, including specialist officers and national resources, following all lines of inquiry. 'Specialist search teams as well as the air support and dive and marine units have been searching Longcroft and the surrounding area. 'I would like to thank the public for the support they've shown for this investigation and all the information provided to police. It shows the community is as committed to finding Cole as we are.' CI Hatrick also urged any members of the public with information relevant to Mr Cooper's disappearance to get in touch with the force. He said: 'I continue to urge anyone with information on Mr Cooper's movements or whereabouts to come forward. 'No matter how significant you believe that information is, it could prove vital.' Tragic mother's attacker is given a taste of freedom after just one year in prison
A 'violent monster' who was jailed for abusing his partner before her death has been offered a taste of freedom – after serving just one year behind bars. Demi Hannaway, 23, died in May 2021 after Andrew Brown throttled, spat at, and hit her countless times over two years, often in front of their children. Last year the 33-year-old admitted abusive and threatening behaviour and was jailed for three-and-a-half years. A Fatal Accident Inquiry initially concluded that the 23-year-old killed herself, but her parents insist Brown may have been responsible. Now just 13 months since a Sheriff accused him of 'horrendous' crimes and sent him to jail, Brown is preparing to spend up to a week every month on home leave. The thug has already moved to open prison Castle Huntly, where he has been allowed out to do work placements and meet with social workers. Demi's devastated parents, who have previously campaigned for Brown to be dealt a harsher sentence, say the news has left them 'sickened to our stomachs'. Mum Helen stressed: 'A violent monster like Brown should not be walking the streets just a year after being sentenced to almost four years in jail. The Justice Secretary needs to answer some very tough questions on how and why this has happened.' The decision to grant Brown additional freedoms comes after Scotland's top law officer ordered a fresh investigation into the nature of Demi's death in February. They have criticised Police Scotland's handling of the investigation, lodging a formal complaint including claims that police took an hour to arrive and there was evidence of a violent struggle in the house. Evidence including clumps of Demi's hair and blood splatters around the house were also ignored, as was Brown's alleged admission to attending officers that it was 'all his fault'. The Hannaways later discovered further damning evidence of Brown's toxic relationship with Demi, which they say point to his responsibility for the young woman's death. Facebook messages sent by Brown call his partner a 'cancerous cow' warning: 'U will get your day u evil, filthy boot. And al [sic] laugh and laugh'. Her phone was found smashed and hidden, with the SIM card missing, raising questions over the possible existence of further abusive messages. Dad John said: 'We've fought every inch of the way to have Demi's death re-opened because the shambolic police investigation was so deeply flawed it was nonexistent - only to discover Brown has been moved to open prison and is granted home leave.' His wife agreed: 'We finally felt that we were being listened to after four years fighting for justice. We were hopeful, only to discover that Brown has been moved to an open prison and is being allowed out. We had not been consulted or warned. It has been a complete shock. Labour MSP Claire Baker, who raised the family's calls for a new probe in Holyrood, added: 'It's shocking to discover Andrew Brown is getting home release barely a year into his sentence, particularly at a time when the Lord Advocate is looking again at the circumstances of Demi's death. On balance, the decision to allow home release is wrong and needs to be looked at again.' A spokesman for the Scottish Prison Service said: 'We do not comment on individuals. Anyone assessed for temporary home leave is subject to a rigorous multiagency risk assessment and, if approved, individualised plans are put in place to meet their risks and needs.' They explained that prisoners at Castle Huntly are assessed and 'tested' in the community as they prepare for release, and are often subject to strict curfews and geographic restrictions.
