Former Alabama defensive tackle Daron Payne to host football camp
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Former Alabama football defensive lineman Daron Payne is hosting a free football camp on June 16.

Payne, who plays for the Washington Commanders, was a selected with the 13th pick in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He was part of two national championship teams during his time at Alabama, the 2015 team that defeated Clemson, 45-40, and the 2017 team that beat Georgia, 26-23. He's played for the Commanders his whole career and made the Pro Bowl in 2018.
The camp is scheduled for June 16 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Shades Valley High School. Supported by a grant from the NFL Foundation, the event will go over the fundamentals of football, and include drills coached by Payne.

Some analysts want to see the quarterback take a natural progression as a passer in a similar way that Russell Wilson did when he was a young Super Bowl champion with Seattle. Others look past the numbers altogether. So long as Philly wins, Hurts' legacy will remain elite. When the Eagles took Hurts in the second round of the 2020 draft, they looked at him in a similar light that they did Wilson back in 2012. They weren't able to get the Wisconsin product then, and were hellbent on making sure that wouldn't happen again eight years later. Advertisement It worked out for them. Hurts has been the kind of leader and winner teams beg for in a starting quarterback. Can he reach new heights as a Super Bowl champion now? Hurts' numbers aren't bad. He has a career completion percentage of over 64%, has thrown for close to 15,000 yards, and has an 85:39 touchdown-to-interception ratio. These numbers are good. They can be a whole lot better. That's where Hurts is now. He is a proven winner with the talent around him. If he can improve as a passer and bolster his numbers, his standing as not only one of the best quarterbacks in the league, but the greatest quarterback in franchise history will be unchallenged for good. Coastal Carolina sweeps Auburn to reach College World Series for 2nd time
AUBURN, Ala. (AP) — Jacob Morrison and Hayden Johnson combined to scatter eight hits and Coastal Carolina defeated Auburn 4-1 on Saturday to sweep the Auburn Super Regional and reach the College World Series for the second time. The Chanticleers will try to duplicate the national championship they won in 2016. Morrison allowed one run on six hits with six strikeouts in six innings. Johnson (5-0) came on in the seventh and pitched three scoreless innings with two hits and five strikeouts. Coastal Carolina's three-run seventh inning featured an RBI single by Walker Mitchell and a series of Auburn miscues led to the other two runs. With the scored tied 1-1 after Mitchell's single, he moved up a base on a single by Blagen Pado and scored from second on a throwing error by the first baseman on a ball hit by Ty Dooley. A walk by Ty Barrango loaded the bases and Coastal's third run scored when Wells Sykes was hit by a pitch. Mitchell drove in the final run with a single in the eighth inning. Cade Fisher (1-3) was on the mound in the sloppy seventh inning and allowed three runs, one earned, in 2 2/3 innings. Caden Bodine's 10th-inning home run early Saturday morning gave the Chanticleers a 7-6 victory in the first game. The Tigers played in the super regional round for the fifth time. That led to changes being made as Cam Bynum departed for the Indianapolis Colts in free agency, and Stephon Gilmore has yet to sign with another team. The Vikings surprisingly did not address the position in the 2025 NFL Draft, so speculation has risen about Minnesota signing a free-agent cornerback. Alexander is a good fit within Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores' scheme, as he is versatile and physical. The concern with Alexander is that he has missed 28 games since 2021 due to injuries. Suppose he becomes available via trade or free agency. In that case, Minnesota will have to consider the option, as one more cornerback is needed on the roster before the 2025 season for insurance purposes.
