Neither were real.
The schoolboys and elderly woman making their cases were AI creations, examples of increasingly sophisticated fakes possible with even basic online tools.
'Why single out the VP?', a digitally created boy in a white school uniform asks, arguing that the case was politically motivated.
The House of Representatives impeached Sara Duterte in early February on charges of corruption and an alleged assassination plot against former ally and running mate President
Ferdinand Marcos Jnr

A guilty verdict in the Senate would result in her removal from office and a lifetime ban from Philippine politics.

Hong Kong's strengths in bridging east and west amid trade war, says finance chief

Hong Kong's finance minister has dismissed concerns that foreigners are avoiding the city because of its strong connections to the mainland Chinese market amid the trade war, saying that investors are demonstrating their confidence with their capital. At the 'Summer Davos' forum on Wednesday, Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po said Hong Kong's strengths lie in giving investors priority access to the mainland market while helping businesses across the border go global and diversify their supply chains to Southeast Asia. When asked if the city's close ties to the mainland, amid the US-China trade war, could deter investors, Chan pointed out that capital from the United States and Europe contributed mostly to the Hong Kong stock market, which has grown by 15 per cent so far this year. 'Investors do use their capital to cast a vote as to the confidence in our part of the world,' said Chan. He made the comments during a panel discussion titled 'Is Asia's Century at Risk?' at the World Economic Forum's Annual Meeting of the New Champions in Tianjin, northern China. Chan was joined by Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, Sri Lanka's Minister of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development Sunil Handunneththi, and Deputy Chair of the Great Indonesia Movement Party, Rahayu Saraswati Djojohadikusumo.

Asean can ‘shape its own destiny' amid US-China rivalry: Singapore PM Wong

Southeast Asian countries can shape their own destiny amid the deepening US-China rivalry, and the region seeks to be an 'inclusive arena' where both powers are actively engaged, according to Singapore's prime minister Lawrence Wong , speaking on Wednesday at a dialogue as part of a World Economic Forum (WEF) meeting in Tianjin, said countries from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) collectively made up a sizeable economy with 'considerable heft'. Asean has the ability to shape its own destiny, to shape its own future. Asean was the arena for proxy wars during the Cold War. We don't want that to happen again,' he told the meeting, more commonly known as Summer Davos. According to Wong, the regional bloc's approach to great power competition is clear: it rejects zero-sum competition and embraces engagement with the US, China and other powers. Southeast Asia counts the US as its biggest investor and China as its largest trading partner. 'We want both to be actively engaged. We want other major powers to be actively engaged. And we want the region to be an open and inclusive arena where people have stakes in … and we can all work together for shared prosperity,' he said.

Will Philippines help US in another Middle East conflict?

Advertisement The issue came up at a press briefing conducted by the Philippine military on Tuesday, where officials were asked if facilities designated under the Enhanced Defence Cooperation Agreement (EDCA) could be used to support US operations against Iran. Following multiple attacks from Israel and Iran against each other earlier this month, the US joined its Israeli ally by attacking three nuclear facilities in Iran on Sunday. In retaliation, Iran launched multiple missiles targeting US forces at an air base in Qatar on Monday. EDCA, along with the Mutual Logistics Support Agreement, grants US forces rotational access to select Philippine military bases, where they preposition fuel, ammunition and other equipment. These arrangements operate alongside the 1951 Mutual Defence Treaty (MDT), which commits both countries to act in the event of an armed attack on either party in the Pacific. Colonel Francel Margareth Padilla, spokeswoman for the Philippine military, declined to confirm whether those facilities could be used in the current conflict, saying only: 'We do not want to hone in on the role of the armed forces. At this point in time, we are prepared for any contingencies.' Advertisement The Philippine military's current priority was 'to make sure that our countrymen will come home safe', she added.
