Samsung Biologics to enhance global ties at DCAT Week 2025
Samsung Biologics, the biotech arm of Samsung Group, said Monday that it will participate in DCAT Week 2025, taking place March 17-20 in New York, as part of its efforts to expand its global business network.
Organized annually by the Drug, Chemical & Associated Technologies Association, the event has a history of over 130 years and is a premier networking platform for the global pharmaceutical and biotech industries.
Samsung Biologics has participated in DCAT Week every year since 2016, except in 2020, when the event was canceled due to COVID-19. This year, the company will host over 50 business meetings with global pharmaceutical firms at its dedicated meeting space.
CEO John Rim will attend for the third consecutive year, engaging with industry leaders to expand strategic partnerships and highlight Samsung Biologics' competitive strengths. The company aims to accelerate its global expansion by securing new contracts and attracting potential clients.
Additionally, on March 20, Samsung Biologics will sponsor DCAT Week's main gala dinner, alongside major contract manufacturing firms Lonza and Thermo Fisher Scientific, providing networking opportunities with over 2,500 industry executives.
The company also plans to attend the Festival of Biologics USA in April and the PEGS Boston Summit in May to further strengthen its global business network.

In contrast, Vitamin C, which was used as a positive control, was administered at twenty times the dose and did not demonstrate comparable broad-spectrum activity. G-Dragon, Le Sserafim, Babymonster push on with overseas concerts amid COVID-19 surge in Asia
K-pop companies refrain from cancellations as no official restrictions are in place Despite the recent surge in the number of COVID-19 cases across parts of Asia, K-pop stars, including G-Dragon, Le Sserafim and Babymonster, are pressing ahead with their overseas concerts. According to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA) on Monday, countries including China, Thailand and Singapore have recently reported a notable increase in COVID-19 cases. While the situation in Korea remains relatively stable, the agency warned that a summer resurgence is possible due to international travel and regional outbreaks. The NB.1.8.1 variant — now dominant in the affected countries — is known for its strong transmissibility and immune-evasive properties, although its severity and fatality rate remain relatively low. The KDCA is advising high-risk travelers to these countries to get vaccinated before departure. G-Dragon of Big Bang is currently on his 'Ubermensch' world tour, performing across nine Asian cities including Taipei, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, Hong Kong and Bangkok as well as Sydney and Melbourne in Australia. He is slated to perform in Macao for three concerts starting June 7. Asked whether shows in Southeast Asia might be canceled due to COVID-19 concerns, his agency Galaxy Corporation told The Korea Herald, 'We don't know at this point.' What Lee pledged to do as president
Global economic power Lee Jae-myung, who claimed victory with the highest number of votes in South Korea's history, pledged to transform the country into a top-tier economic powerhouse by heavily investing in future industries, particularly artificial intelligence and cultural exports. He plans to boost national AI competitiveness by providing infrastructure such as data centers, increased public-private funding and regulatory reforms. He said he would work to support Korea's content industries and those related to arts and culture, which he said could generate a total of 300 trillion won ($218 billion) in sales annually and 50 trillion won in exports by 2030. Key industries, including defense and strategic technology, will see tax incentives and targeted research and development, while food tech and green bio innovations will reshape agriculture into a smart and sustainable sector. Strengthening democracy Lee promised robust reforms to restore democratic order after the December 2024 martial law crisis. These include reinforcing civilian control over military powers, reducing the president's martial law authority and ending political retaliation practices. He aims to improve transparency in institutions such as the National Human Rights Commission and the Board of Audit. Judiciary and prosecution reforms include separating investigative and prosecutorial powers, expanding public legal access and introducing faster, more open trials. Inter-Korean peace efforts will resume, with an emphasis on denuclearization and military tension reduction. National safety and public health To ensure public safety, Lee proposed strengthening crime prevention, disaster response and medical access. A labor-respecting society Lee commits to building a society where all workers' rights are protected, whether regular employees, freelancers or platform laborers. Occupational safety, particularly for high-risk jobs, will be a priority, along with broader workers' compensation coverage. Active climate response Lee pledged aggressive action on climate change through carbon reduction and green energy expansion. South Korea will set ambitious emission targets and revise its Carbon Neutrality Framework Act. He aims to shut down coal plants by 2040, expand solar and wind power, and invest in smart grids and energy highways.
