Rudraprayag, June 26 (PTI) At least two people were killed, eight injured and ten others were reported missing when a vehicle carrying pilgrims fell into the Alaknanda river here on Thursday, police said.
Two bodies have been recovered, one near the accident site and the other from the river near Rudraprayag, Satyendra Singh Bhandari, a member of the Red Cross Society rescue team told PTI. Seven people, including three women and two children, were injured in the accident while ten others went missing, he said, adding that the injured have been hospitalised.
There were 20 people, including the driver, on board the vehicle when it fell into the river, Bhandari added.
The tempo traveller is said to have been going towards the Badrinath Dham when the accident occurred at around 7.30 am, he said quoting the injured.

The dispute erupted between police and the priest over the installation of additional sound systems for the procession. According to local residents, devotees got angry after police asked the organisers of the procession to remove the additional sound systems, following which they sat on a dharna at Nayaganj. Das told reporters that the SO, along with police personnel from Nayaganj, arrived at the spot and asked them to carry only two speakers with the procession, when they were preparing to take out the Jagannath Rath Yatra at 1 pm. 'When we opposed this, saying no senior official had issued any such instruction, the police personnel misbehaved with us,' he said. Irked by the alleged misbehaviour of the police personnel, supporters of the priest started raising slogans against police. Officials tried to pacify the priest and his supporters, but they were adamant on their demand that the SO should be placed under suspension. Samajwadi Party (SP) MLA Amitabh Bajpai also arrived at the spot with his supporters and they recited the 'Hanuman Chalisa' there in protest. Das walked through the market with folded hands, following which the shopkeepers pulled down their shutters in his support. Kolkata law college gangrape case: A senior official of the Kolkata Police on Friday said that the medical examination corroborated a law college student's allegation that she was gangraped, new agency PTI reported. "The evidence corroborated what the victim alleged in her complaint lodged with the Kasba Police Station. There is evidence of forceful penetration, bite marks and nail scratches on her body," the officer told PTI. Chief Police Prosecutor Sourin Ghosal said that the prime accused, a former student of the college and a practicing criminal lawyer, raped the first year law student while the other two stood guard outside the room. "According to a Supreme Court judgement, all persons in a group involved in cases of gangrape must be held liable, even if all of them did not commit the act of rape. In this case, two other persons helped in the rape. So this is a case of gang rape, and they are also accused in the case," Ghosal told PTI. A female student was allegedly gangraped inside a law college in Kolkata's Kasba on June 25. The police have arrested all three accused. According to an ANI report, the three accused, named as Monojit Mishra (31), Zaib Ahmed (19), and Pramit Mukhopadhyay (20), were former students or staff members of the same law college. All of them have been sent to a four days police custody till July 1. The alleged sexual assault took place between 7:30 pm and 10:50 pm on Wednesday within the law college premises. According to the official, one of the accused allegedly committed sexual assault, while the others were involved in the crime. The victim's family filed a police complaint against the accused, and the police have taken swift action in the matter. Two of the accused, Monojit Mishra and Zaib Ahmed, were arrested on Thursday, near Siddhartha Shankar Roy Sishu Udyan, close to Talbagan Crossing in Kolkata. Pramit Mukhopadhyay was arrested later the same night at his residence. The police have seized the mobile phones of all three accused. Rajput said the minor girl from a village under Thana Dannahar was playing outside her home on the evening of March 9, 2020, when her maternal uncle lured her and took her to a school outside the village where he raped her before killing her. He said when the girl did not return home, her parents searched for her all night, but could not find her. The next morning, villagers saw her body in the bushes near the school and informed her parents. Villagers had seen her going with the uncle in the evening and informed her parents. Following the crime, the accused was on the run. The father of the girl got the FIR registered under relevant sections against the uncle. The police sent the body for post-mortem, which confirmed rape and strangulation. The uncle was arrested and following which the police filed a chargesheet against him in the court on charges of rape and murder besides the POCSO Act.
