Only Benedict Cumberbatch Could Make An Arm Sling Look This Good At Cannes
Last Updated:
Benedict Cumberbatch attended the 2025 Cannes Film Festival for the screening of his latest film, The Phoenician Scheme.
Benedict Cumberbatch, known for his roles in Sherlock and The Imitation Game, attended the 2025 Cannes Film Festival for the screening of his latest film, The Phoenician Scheme. The actor arrived at the Grand Theatre Lumiere on Sunday, May 18, accompanied by his wife Sophie Hunter.
The 48-year-old actor kept it classic in a black tuxedo, but what truly caught everyone's attention was his right arm in a sling. While the cause of the injury remains unknown, Cumberbatch didn't let it cramp his style. He completed the look with a sleek wristwatch, brown sunglasses, and confidently posed on the red carpet.
On the other hand, Sophie, 47, brought old-school glamour to the event. She wore a deep red gown that featured a fitted waistline that gave a vintage 1950s feel. Her accessories included silver earrings that peeked through her curled brown hair.
The couple stood close as they posed for photographers, with Sophie gently placing a hand on her husband's shoulder. Later, she held his hand as they walked the red carpet together.
Take a look here:
Benedict and Sophie have been together since 2009 after meeting on the set of Burlesque Fairytales. They got married in 2015 and are parents to three children – Christopher, Hal and Finn.
Cumberbatch stars in The Phoenician Scheme, a film directed by Wes Anderson from a story co-written with Roman Coppola. The project marks Anderson's return to Cannes after Asteroid City in 2023 and The French Dispatch in 2021.
The film's cast includes Michael Cera, Riz Ahmed, Benicio del Toro, Rupert Friend, Mia Threapleton, Jeffrey Wright, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Antonia Desplat and Bill Murray.
Con lo que parece ser una mano desconchabadita llegó Benedict Cumberbatch muy guapo y con los zapatos bien boleados a la alfombra roja de"El Esquema Fenicio" en el Festival de Cannes en Francia

Though he has ten children, Korda names Sister Liesl as his sole heir, putting them in the path of scheming tycoons, foreign terrorists and dangerous assassins during a new business move.
The film is scheduled to release in select theatres on May 30. A wider release will follow on June 6.

'I did it three movies in a row, maybe four': Wes Anderson on trying to cast Jodie Foster in his films
Director Wes Anderson's films have always lined up a star-studded cast which includes A-listers like Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hanks, Owen Wilson, Ben Stiller, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Margot Robbie, among others, but the director's wish to cast one actor is yet to come to fruition—Jodie Foster. Wes Anderson revealed that he tried casting Jodie Foster in "so many" films but timing has never worked in his favour. In an interview with Collider during the promotions of his upcoming film The Phoenician Scheme, he shared that he approached the two-time Oscar winner in at least three or four movies in a row. "It used to be that every movie we went to Jodie Foster for a part. And I think I did three movies in a row, maybe four. And I met her, and I liked her. And I thought it was going to get her. I think she's just great, Jodie Foster. And I loved her." He continued, "But I guess after asking a few times, I thought maybe I'm not… I think sometimes somebody has an idea of the kind of work they want to do at that time in his or her life, and we weren't right."

Wes Anderson reveals his unsuccessful attempts to cast Jodie Foster in multiple films
Washington [US], June 5 (ANI): Acclaimed director Wes Anderson, known for his quirky and star-studded ensemble casts, recently shared that he has tried, but failed, to cast actress Jodie Foster in several of his films over the years. The Oscar-winning director revealed that despite his repeated efforts, timing never seemed to align, preventing him from working with the legendary actress. According to Deadline, in a recent interview, Anderson admitted, "Over the years, I had so many movies that I tried to get Jodie Foster to be in." He explained that this was a recurring effort, with Foster being approached for roles in several films. "It used to be that every movie, we went to Jodie Foster for a part. And I think I did it three movies in a row, maybe four," Anderson recalled, speaking fondly of his admiration for the actress. "I met her, and I liked her. And I thought it was going to get her. And I think she's just great, Jodie Foster. And I loved her," he added, as quoted by Deadline. Despite his best efforts, Anderson's attempts to cast Foster were unsuccessful, and the timing never seemed right for both parties. The director went on to explain that sometimes the timing and type of work just don't match up. "I still would like to get Jodie Foster. But I guess after asking a few times, I thought maybe I'm not... I think sometimes somebody has an idea of the kind of work they want to do at that time in his or her life, and we weren't right," he said. Anderson did not specify which roles he envisioned for Foster. Anderson's most recent work, 'The Phoenician Scheme', marks his 13th feature film. The film is centred around Benicio del Toro, who plays Zsa-zsa Korda, a wealthy businessman. Korda becomes the target of a dangerous pursuit after appointing his nun daughter, Sister Liesl (Mia Threapleton), as the sole heir to his vast estate. The film has been released in theatres, garnering attention for its unique storytelling and star-studded cast, further cementing Anderson's signature style. Meanwhile, Jodie Foster made her debut in French cinema with 'Vie privee' (A Private Life). The film premiered last month at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival, where The Phoenician Scheme was also in the running for the Palme d'Or. (ANI)
